View Full Version : Lucie in Sydney!

Horrible draw. :help:

(1) Justine Henin vs. Bye
Lucie Safarova vs. Alicia Molik
Amelie Mauresmo vs. Q
(8) Elena Dementieva vs. Q

Rematch with Molik, who she just lost to. Then a possible Paris rematch with Henin. Oh I wish that would happen.

Good luck Lucie! Do your best. PODME!

I hate this draw :( :( :(

Good luck Lucie! :yeah:

:ras: the Draw Gods apparently hate her

Cmon folks, it's really not that bad.

She has a winnable match first up, that's more than other unseeded players were given. She should beat Molik who is seriously average and still a fair way off her best. Then she'll face Henin who of course will be extremely tough but it's a great test ahead of the Australian Open.

She's already played 3 singles matches, add another against Molik and perhaps another against Henin. That's 5 singles matches before Melbourne, perfect preparation. She really doesn't need more than that but if she beats Henin that's obviously good too. ;)

UGHHH!! What a crappy draw. :( Oh well... I guess it's good for Lucie against Molik to practice playing against a home favorite and get revenge. And maybe Lucie can put a quick end to the beginning of Justine's New Year. :)

In the toughest quarter:mad:
Would have liked Lucie to be in the 3rd quarter - oh well Lucie is playing the first match up on CC today, good luck Lucie revenge:bounce:

Safarova def. Molik 7-6(2), 7-6(10)

Lucie! :woohoo: Pleasantly surprised because, honestly, I thought she would lose. :o

Now she plays Justine for the second time in her career. We all know what happened the first time.

Great work, Lucie!

Lucie played much better than their meeting last week. Still not at her best though.
Serve was :o today, 8 double faults & only 53% of first serves in, won 80% of 1st serves when they went in though. Think Lucie will be out on the practice court this afternoon working on that.
Lucie was up a break in both sets but was broken back both times. Lucie read the Molik serve much better than in Perth. If Molik's serve was weaker Lucie would have won by an easier scoreline as she dominated off the ground. FH was smoking today:hearts:

I enjoyed both tiebreaks for different reasons. The first set TB was just Lucie domination. The 2nd set TB was different Lucie really had to fight for it and save some set points against her. Lucie was also down in her last couple of service games in the 2nd set but she fought through it and hit some great FHs when under pressure.
Another promising thing from the match was that Lucie was still looking strong physcially at the end of the match depsite the heat and length of the match:)
First win in a wta match since US Open, nice work & start to 2008 Lucie:bounce:

Good luck against Henin now. Henin's first match of the season, she will still have Christmas rust, great chance for Lucie to go 2-0 against her. 8 double faults certainly won't cut it though.

I saw Lucie play today:D despite the fact it was BLOODY HOT (to the point Tomas put a towel over his head:p) I think she did ok. I like that she was stretched and was able to pull through. Although her serve was blah today. I'll post my pics tomorrow. There was a video but *ahem* someone accidentally deleted it...:p

Glad she beat Molik in the one which really mattered.

Jan 6th, 2008, 04:11 PM
Congrats for Lucie! Revenge is always nice. But her serve simply will not cut it against Henin. If Henin is at her best, or even near it, Lucie will have to be playing very well. If Henin is a bit rust, and Lucie is playing very well, you never know... ;)

Great official start for Lucie. :D That clutch second-serve ace and all the clutch or come-from-behind winning bodes well. :)

Now, to work on that serve!

Here's to Lucie playing fearless against Henin. The Henin of now is more fearsome than the one in Paris, but Lucie has the kind of big-hitting unpredictable game that can rattle her.

Lucie Vs Henin. Hopefully it will be a repeat of Paris last yr & Lucie will be the first person to beat Henin in like months!

Good win Lucie! :yeah:

Lucie tends to play her best on center court when she's the underdog. Mauresmo in Australia, Mauresmo in Paris, Henin in Paris, Jankovic at Wimbledon, etc. So you never know! Lucie could make a real name for herself...

I am so excited for this match. Regardless of the outcome, I think she is ready for AO now. :)

Lucie just withdrew from Sidney, she has a groin strain injury ! Get well soon, lovely Lucie

Jan 8th, 2008, 12:40 AM
During her match on Sunday she was stretching out her right leg/hip a lot in the second set. Get better:hug:

Jan 8th, 2008, 01:56 AM
That's a real shame... :(

But all I care about now is Lucie being fully fit for the Aussie Open. She has so many points to defend...

Jan 8th, 2008, 05:45 AM

Heal fast Lucie:)

Better to rest for AO

Jan 8th, 2008, 01:11 PM
I hope she is fine till the AO...

Jan 8th, 2008, 01:41 PM
Get well soon Lucie. tons to defend in Australia.

Lucka is injured way too often to really find some consistency and make a deeper improvement in her game.
