Monique Adamczak got one this week for defeating Vesnina and Christina Wheeler won the wild card playoff. The French and Asian Federations also have one each. From what I believe as well, the USTA also have one as well. By that calculation, there is roughly around 2 or 3 wildcards left.

I think she should get the wildcard no matter what happens following this. She's done enough before her drop off that, coupled with her results this year, make her a good prospect for the Aussie. What if she gets Davenport first round *again*! That'd be crazy...

Jelena :rocker2::banana:. A little shocked by the scoreline to be honest; after that weird match/scoreline yesterday I didn't know what to expect. She'll likely qualify for the MD now I think, and will be awarded an AO WC. AT this point, even if she gets a qualies WC I wouldn't care as long as she participates in it I'm a happy camper.

already a pretty big slap in the face of the people saying she had no chance of coming back. beating a former top 30 player (far from that level now of course) and now a top 75 player is a very good start in her first tournament in so long. bodes well for the future if she stays on track mentally.

JELENA Dokic yesterday downplayed her second-round win in the Hobart International qualifying tournament, but her body language suggested otherwise as she sealed the match with a fiery ace.

The oft-maligned Australian is on another comeback trail after more than two years in the tennis wilderness but yesterday showed glimpses of the form that took her to No.4 in the world a few years ago.

She totally dismantled the game of Austria's Yvonne Meusburger, who is ranked No.61 in the world and was top seed at the Hobart qualifying tournament.

Dokic won the match 6-3, 6-2. This morning she will meet Russia's Yaroslava Shvedova, the winner earning a place in the main draw. Shvedova was leading Australia's Karolina Wlodarczak 6-7, 6-1 yesterday before the Australian retired down 0-3 in the deciding set.

Dokic acknowledged that she played "much better" than in Friday's three-set scrap against Russian Evgenia Linetskaya, who is launching a comeback from injury.

"I played against a much better opponent today and I did not expect to get close to her," she said.

I served well when I needed to and basically everything went better. I think I played the big points well."

Dokic took little over an hour to secure the victory.

She said she came into the tournament with nothing to lose and still felt that way.

"Any match that I win is a bonus," she said.

"She (Meusburger) plays week in, week out so I am very happy with that (beating such a high ranked player)."

Dokic served out the match confidently and raised her arms in the air in triumph.

"Even if I lost I would have been very proud of myself," she said.

Dokic no longer has a ranking on the WTA tour and had to rely on a wildcard from Tennis Australia to make it into the qualifying tournament.

Shvedova, her opponent today, finished the 2007 season ranked 89 in the world after rising as high as 70.

She won her first tour singles title in Bangalore in just her fourth main-draw appearance.

Dokic and Shvedova will be on centre court from 10am.
