Disappointing performance by Azarenka, nonetheless not unexpected. Once again she shows that she's as mentally tough as a kid in the fog. :o She has to learn how to keep her emotions in check or she won't win anything. Once she got a break up in the 2nd set, everything went downhill. Rackets were flying again... For a moment in the 3rd set it looked like she got it together as showed some positive body-language... But again nothing in the end. :(

Congrats to Na Li for plugging the correct channel into her HD in the end. Honestly she's such a robotic player... it seems to me as if she was a robot that only needs to get some dimensions and she will be hitting the balls all the time in the same places. So she either misses by ridicoulous margins for a couple of games in a row, or she produces spectacular flukish winners. Future #1, GS winner, Olympic champion... yeah right.

I LOVE Li Na, but once she faces Justine, Maria, A Williams, or any other top 10 player, she will not be able to get away with her heaps of errors.

But I'm still worried about her. Too many unforced errors. She could change but apparently she didn't want to.
Next opponent will be Bartoli...both hit hard, both players' service games will be broken many times. Good luck in there!:bounce:

Well done Na! :woohoo:

She had a nervous start but settled in towards the end of the first set. She really needs to do something about her serve, it was terrible today under pressure, so many dfs. She should also try to take more balls on the volley instead of letting them bouce as she does have a great volley.

Vika played well but got frustrated with herself towards the end of the 2nd set and mentally broke down and couldnt recover.

i agree. she still makes a ton of UEs. now her new "hobby" is making at least 5 dfs per match on those crucial pts. hopefully its because she got a bit nervous after a long injury. i still believe she will reach no.8 to no.10 sometime in this year, but dont know how long shes gonna to stay there

i think the only thing she improved a lot is her mental toughness. it does help her a lot to beat many top 20 players. hope she will keep this form and become a queen of tier 2 or 3 tournaments at least :p

Great comeback Na :worship:

First "Player of the week" on WTAhotties (http://wtahotties.blogspot.com) blog:

Player of the week: Na Li
After her great breakthrough in 2006, 2007 was a hard season for Na Li (http://www.geocities.com/dospordos/wta/li.htm), as injuries prevented her to get her top level and she even missed a big part of the season. But 2008 has started in a different way. With an eye on Beijing Olympic Games, Li has made a great comeback in Gold Coast tournament. Not only she has taken the title, but she has also beaten three Top 20 players including Sybille Bammer (http://www.geocities.com/dospordos/wta/bammer.htm), Patty Schnyder (http://www.geocities.com/dospordos/wta/schnyder.htm) and Nicole Vaidisova (http://www.geocities.com/dospordos/wta/vaidisova.htm) and also raising talent Victoria Azarenka (http://www.geocities.com/dospordos/wta/azarenka.htm) in the final. She has made it in her own style, overcoming difficult situations in the matches against Bammer, Schnyder and Azarenka, which were decided in the third set. A great fighter who truly deserves our first "Player of the week" award.
