Jelena :woohoo: :hearts:

Linetskaya's double faults were the story of this match. She served 19 in total. Very Dokic-like numbers actually. Jelena had control of the 2nd set early, then went down a break 3-4, but fought back and lost only one game from that point.

I don't care if Linetskaya played a bad match, I'm glad Jelena didn't give up and fought.

Next up vs. Meusburger who's a bit of a pusher. That'll be a challenge for Jelena. :o AJDE!

Awesome win for Jelena...she was down 6-3 4-3 30-0 with Linetskaya serving. She battled hard and won 9 of the last 10 games easily and quickly...
2 WTA Ranking Points :woohoo:

So Disrespectful

Congratulations Jelena. The match was handed to her on a silver platter, Evgenia was obviously injured.

Still, she could have quite easily lost that second set, so I'm very proud of her efforts. She really wants this!

Relieved that Jelena got through this match, good to see that she is fighting to win her matches :D

Hopefully she will play better in her next match :)

Evgenia basically gave the match to Jelena but I'm happy for her to make it to the qualifying round :) It'll be interesting to see how she fares against a much better opponent

Baby steps :)

She can either smack Yvonne off the court or hand the match to her by hitting countless errors as Yvonne will hardly miss anything. It's on her racquet.

Nice win Jelena! Actually didn't expect her to win.

I can't see her getting past Meusburger if she's such a great defensive player. Jelena will really have to watch her errors if that's true.

Well done Jelena!!

If she's in form, I wouldn't be surprised if she beat Meusburger. Yvonne has been in absolutely horrible form since getting to the finals of Bad Gastein in July. Her win against Morigami last week was Yvonne's first top 100 win in six months.

DOKIC KEEPS HOPES ALIVE

JELENA Dokic made a successful first-up attempt to resurrect her tennis career with a win in yesterday's first round of qualifying for the Hobart International.

Dokic, the former world No.4, defeated Russia's Evgenia Linetskaya 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

It appeared Dokic's time in Hobart might be short-lived as Linetskaya raced through the first set in quick time.

Dokic played loose and at times over-hit the ball as she searched for consistency.

She said after the match that it took her until the last set to find her rhythm.

"I was a little bit rusty to start with," she said after the match.

"I haven't played anyone at that level for more than two years."

Dokic won the first three games of the second set as her serve became more of a weapon just as Linetskaya's began to fail.

With both players finding it hard to hold serve, Dokic finally went ahead 5-4 before the Russian called for the trainer to treat her right shoulder.

The treatment did not help as Linetskaya's next service game failed to produce a legal serve and Dokic took the set.

With Linetskaya struggling to serve and calling for the trainer once more, Dokic raced through the decider for victory.

"It is great to get a win but it is a long-term thing," Dokic said.

"I am starting from zero and can't expect anything from myself."

Dokic said she did not expect too much from herself in Hobart or if she qualified for the Australian Open.

"There are lots of things I need to work on," she said.

"Physically I am feeling great but we will see how I pull up tomorrow morning."

Dokic will take to the court again today against a much tougher prospect in Austria's world No.65, Yvonne Meusburger.

Meusburger, the No.1 seed in the qualifying tournament, won her opening qualifying match against I-Hsuan Hwang, from Chinese Taipei, 6-4, 6-3.

Dokic and Meusburger will be the third match on centre court today, with play starting at 10am.
