:)

Patty was *50 up first set, managed to serve it out 3rd time lucky.

Had heaps of chances to break early in the second but didn't.

She served 3 aces in a row once

Broke Momo at 44 and serve it out to 30 :D

Disappointing loss for Amélie.

But at least she got some match practice and now knows that she needs to work on her serve (and who knows what else : no tennis coverage for me! ).

Ten DFs is simply put a hideous stat.

well done patty! hope you had a good season.

i have to say i never thought momo would do well this year i thought '06 was a fluke year and now shes back down to her level. shes way to defensive to be a top player.

Mauresmo will retire is she loses early in the AO

i hope it doesnt happen but the motivation isnt there-as she has said herself-that is worse then loss of form

Mauresmo is still very motivated. If she wasn't she wouldn't have bothered to get back to training in november.

Anyhow, I still believe, Amélie.

At least Amélie put up a good fight. Decided that Bagélie wasn't going to make a return so soon. ;)

I didn't expect miracles to happen nor Amélie get an easy start this year anyway. Her serve was a disgrace but she sure fought out there.

Yes, exactly :yeah:

Tough loss, but better here than in Melbourne, anyway. She'll know what to and has another tournament to keep working on it.

Congrats to Patty :)

i saw this coming - i actually said Patty would win surprisingly easily and identifed Amelie's serve as problem. I don't view this as a huge deal for Mauresmo though. she never plays this early i honestly don't think she would give a crap about this title. of course she would want to win but it's about getting her game ready for the Australian Open. Let's not forgot she lost in the 1st round of Sydney the year she won the Aus Open and the first round of Eastbourne before winning Wimbledon. For sure she's not at that level right now but people have very short memories on this board - they said the same things about players like Pierce. Mauresmo will put you in your place this year.

Confidence still not there for Mauresmo. Couple of years ago on a indoor quick(ish) hardcourt, she probably would've beaten Patty fairly comfortably. Just hasnt been able to get any rythm since her lay-off last year..........

Still, it's a good result for patty:)

I never expected her to just return at her best. She needs to keep practising against top 20 players and she will get there.

I would be much more worried if it was 61, 62 or something :bounce:

Well, Amelie did reach the number one ranking a couple times. And she's always defensive when she plays my Elena. haha, but even if Amelie's Slam wins were a fluke, I hope Elena has a fluke year like Amelie's. *prays*

I really hope this win is a renaissance for Patty.

Gold Coast is so winnable now. Li and Azarenka or Peer stand in her way. I'm excited.

I wanted Amelie to win this match but it was a win/win situation as far as I'm concerned. You'll get to a better place with your game, Ame.

Dark Horse for AO maybs?

She has been a dark horse for the longest time now. This is her last year, I think, to really make a run at a slam. I think Melbourne will be her best bet too. She just needs to come prepared, which is what she is doing.

I sense a retirement from Amelie. :(

disastrous result.

...losing to a player ranked ahead of her is a disastrous result? Please.

Patty is a GOOD player. I didnt see the match, but I'm not ashamed for Amelie at all.

Hopefully, they both cause some upsets at AO. The surface should suit both of them.

mauresmofan
Jan 3rd, 2008, 09:48 PM
Amélie can't just expect the results to happen she's got to work hard until her form improves. Her serve was horrible today and Patty will beat Amélie ten times out of ten when she serves like that. I hope Patty wins the title - love her game and attitude!

Amélie can't just expect the results to happen she's got to work hard until her form improves.

Why do you assume that this is her expectation? That she isn't working hard?

Amelie herself has always said (as Denise suggested) that she's not the kind of player who can come in cold and start up again in full form - that she needs match play to get back into her game.
