Extremely poor showing from Nicole.

Poor service stats, and really she is nothing without her serve. :o

:woohoo: Na has just gotten better & better with every match she plays. This will surely give her a lot of confidence now & guess having a new coach is paying off at the moment :yeah:

Once again Nicole doesn't win a title as the top seed.

her serve really struggled today.. I think it was just off day or really some problems.. hope for no injury.. I don't think so Na Li could just crushed Nicole..

In retrospective, Im not shocked. Na has defeated Nicole before, at Wimbledon '06. Na has continued to improve, her training being the main beneficiary to her Semifinal run at Gold Coast before her big points defense at Sydney. Nicole continues to disappoint. She has "it"- the tenacity, shots, and serve, she needs to execute it better, especially at the Australian Open in 2 weeks, she is a defending Semifinalist, her number 12 ranking can become a 21 if she's not fully prepared.

Of course Na Li can crush Nicole. She already won their first match in 2006 by the way.Vaidisova can loose to anyone when she has a day off.She has a real mental issue.I like the way Alex works with her on her tennis, but he doesn't know how to help her when she's starting losing. He doesn't know how to work on the mental side. The first pic I saw of Nicole in Gold Coast was Nicole looking at her step-father because she was lost against Dellacqua, as always...It's getting worse month after month as she unable to win a big match, or a match that could help her career.Against Hantuchova at Linz, she was totally lost, she even forgot the score during the match.Nicole has everything to be a top player so I'm just sad that she wastes her talent like she does. She's still young, anyway, we can hope it will change.I still believe she has a great career to come.

Edit: And like I see, she has a problem with her foot!

Na is just returning this year from an injury, including travel to Germany for special doctors there. (I believe Jankovic recommended some to her there.)

Na will face either Mauresmo or Schnyder in the SF. (That match has not been played yet, has it? I have read that Mauresmo is not playing so well at this time.)

Wonder if Radek was there for Nicole? Where is the men's tour at this time?

Vaidisova suffers shock loss

By Daniel Pace
January 03, 2008

NICOLE Vaidisova, the No.1 seed from the Czech Republic, refused to blame an ankle injury for her shock loss to Li Na in the Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts quarter-finals on the Gold Coast.

Li, the world No.29, from China, upset the Czech teenager 6-3 6-3 to set up a semi-final against either two-time grand slam champion Amelie Mauresmo or No.4 seed Swiss Patty Schnyder.

Vaidisova needed a medical time-out after feeling a sharp pain in her left ankle when trailing 5-3 in the first set, but Li had dominated the match to that point.

"I don't think it's going to be something huge but it just distracts you," Vaidisova, the world No.12, said of the injury.

"She played a great game and she was up before that happened so it's definitely not my excuse for losing.

"I hate to find excuses so I have to give her credit for the way she came up and played a good game."

Li jumped to a 4-0 lead in the second set, but Vaidisova fought back, to 4-3, before the Chinese reasserted her authority and closed out the match.
