View Full Version : Hong Kong exhibition quarterfinal Anna def. Daniela 6-4 6-3

Jan 2nd, 2008, 02:12 PM
Well Anna Chakvetadze her backhand was really on, especially those dtl. And her forehand crosscourts were good as well. Also sometimes good net play especially at 6-4 3-1 gamepoint Anna, great netplay. And she had some gutsy deep second serves out there!

Hantuchova, what I really noticed was that her feet weren't moving, maybe because it was very cold out there. But her feet really let her down on the easy shots. If she was on the defense she was moving well, but to those easy balls she was only moving her upperbody. Her serve was solid though!

I expected a win from Daniela, but Ana plays great tennis (if she wants)..;)
But itīs only an exhibiton...:p

Jan 2nd, 2008, 02:31 PM
Dani still gets to play. Everyone plays at least 2 singles matches. And they play doubles together.

Jan 2nd, 2008, 02:35 PM
I watched just last games and it seems Anna played well and Daniela made so many ue's.. and her movement wasn't good..

Jan 2nd, 2008, 02:39 PM
well done anna

Jan 2nd, 2008, 02:43 PM
i don't know why everyone always thinks Anna is going to have a slump in 2008 and fall out of top ten. She is a very tough player and was semifinalist at YEC, I can see her stay in top ten for all 2008, i predicted her reaching a final in a grand slam.

Not a great start for this match, both makes too many unforced errors, but I think the cold weather don't help.

Then the match became more interesting and Anna hits more winners and also plays well and consistent, Daniela continue to hit too many errors, but in several moments she plays good tennis and also the service is pretty consistent and well placed.

Jan 2nd, 2008, 03:08 PM
To beat Sharapova, Anna has to serve well and HOLD

Jan 2nd, 2008, 03:20 PM
No problem Daniela, your first match, conditions seemed to be rough, just an exo so no worries.

Jan 2nd, 2008, 03:24 PM

Jan 2nd, 2008, 03:28 PM
I thought they'll play longer...Especially after 8 games...

Anna played pretty well today

Her BH was on fire. She served great too

BTW I think she changed her FH a little bit. She seems to prepare this shot a little bit earlier

After a tight opening set which followed serve until the 10th game, Chakvetadze crucially grabbed the first break at 5-4 to move ahead.
In the second, Chakvetadze stormed into a 3-0 lead after breaking the Hantuchova serve in the second game and, despite a spirited fightback from the world number nine, the victory was sealed in 78 minutes.
"I like the court as it has a very fast bounce. I had a few troubles with my return but at least I served well. It is very good preparation for the new season plus I have already played a few exhibitions," Chakvetadze told PA Sport.
"In Singapore against Maria we played indoors so it will be different as it is also a different surface. She plays very seriously in her exhibition matches while I am having more fun, but we will see how it goes."

Anna Chakvetadze
