I just made hotel reservations for the first week, and am working on flights. (Trying to do it with frequent flyer miles, it is a pain! :tape: )

I've never been to Palm Springs, so it should be a fun mix of tennis and sightseeing.

Anyone who is from the area or attends the tournament... can you give some info about it, and about things to do and see in the area?

I will be there from March 13-23rd. Last year it was very hot. Make sure your hotel is not in Palm Springs but closer to the tournament. Indian Wells, Palm Desert or Rancho Mirage is closer.

The shopping outlets in the desert are great. They have all the designers. Theres Indian Casinos. A & W which is on the way to the tennis center from the highway has good root beer and fast food burger.
The sun is strong, it felt hotter than it really was at the tennis center, most people were wearing shorts and sandals which seemed comfortable.

Another thing I would add is that it is usually hot, but at night it can get cold. If you plan on staying day and night i would suggest bringing some warmer clothes.

The food at the tournament is pretty pathetic, IMO. But yes, generally
it can be very hot during the day and it gets very chilly as soon as the
sun goes down. I usually bring a few layers of clothes in my bag.

I usually stay very near the tournament site; it makes it a lot easier and
the local hotels have shuttles to the tournament (parking is not inexpensive.)
The practice court situation is pretty good; one can get very near the players
as long as the player isn't extremely popular (for example, seeing shirtless
Safin last year was nearly impossible unless you were tall enough to see over
the massive crowd.)

I was at one of the players' hotels, and that was a blast. I rode the elevator
with Murray, who looked much more manly than I expected (he's always seems like
a gangly boy to me.)

I really haven't done much near there (shopping or restaurants), but there is a
seafood restaurant called (I think) Big Fish that was excellent.

Thanks for the info so far. I'm staying in Palm Springs for about 5 days, then across the street from teh tournament for a few more days.

Cannot believe it is coming up so quickly. Less than two weeks!!
