If there will be no surprises, Shahar should meet Safina in the QF.

From there everything is possible, including a win against her and Petrova in the SF and even winning Vaidisova in the finals.

But a 50% chance IMO is loosing in the QF.

Good luck anyway.

A peerless encounter
http://www.tennis.com.au/pages/News.aspx?id=4&pageId=11478&HandlerId=2&archive=false&newsid=3723
In what is being described as the match of the tournament so far, Israel's Shahar Peer has avenged her demons and defeated Russia's Dinara Safina in three sets 4-6 6-1 7-6 in their quarterfinal encounter at the Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts.
In a gruelling two hours and 29 minutes, Peer finally managed to overcome the defending champion. Last year it was Safina who stopped Peer's Gold Coast run in the semifinals, but today Peer was looking for revenge.
Over three sets Safina struck 13 double faults to Peer's three. She was unable to capitalise on five match points in the third set and only converted three of 10 break-point opportunities.
After the match, Safina was disappointed that she let slip so many chances to win the match. “First 40-0 on my serve and then I didn't put one serve in, it was a little disappointing.
“In the rallies I still had to go a little bit more and I was waiting for her mistake and it was my mistake. I was still 40-0 up and I need to go for the shots.”

With the defence of her singles title over, Safina's attention now turns to the doubles. Tomorrow Safina and her partner, Agnes Szavay, play the Russians Nadia Petrova and Elena Vesnina.
Safina has been a member of the winning doubles duo for the past two years and hopes to make it three in a row.
Meanwhile, Peer was happy with the fight she showed in defending five match points.
“It was very tough, 7-6 in the third is never easy and also playing Dinara is never easy. She's a good player and I think we both played good.
“I was maybe a little bit luckier than her, maybe more tough out there, but those matches can go either way. Usually I'm always fighting and I try to fight the best that I can.”
For Peer she will have to play her doubles partner, Victoria Azarenka, who defeated Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia 6-1 3-6 6-3 in their quarterfinal match today.
In other quarterfinal action this evening Switzerland's Patty Schnyder takes on France's Amelie Mauresmo

Dementieva d. Peer 6-2 6-0 :tape::help: 10 minutes ago.
A very poor showing from Shahar. She did have 5 break points early in the 2nd set but 6-1 or 6-2 wouldn't make much of difference.

Sad loss. She seems to have some problems lately beating players she knows very well. The SF loss to her doubles partner in the first tournament of this year. Her 3rd round loss to her former doubles partner at last year's Wimb. (Bartoli). An early round loss in California last year to her (at that time) doubles partner (Mirza). She mentioned in the newspaper that she had been practicing with Dementieva before the tournament began. However, we all have bad days and she is a talented player. Good luck in the next tournament!

I believe and hope that her performance this year is the cause
of changing her training team.
I think (maybe I'm naive or too optimistic) that it takes time to learn "new tricks" and that in the meantime the "old tricks" suffer.

We should give her a few month more before we can judge what is going on with her tennis.

His name is Gabriel Urpi (http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=323034).
Strangely enough Dementieva was beaten by Sharapova by the exact same scoreline as she beat Shahar.

More to the point, Peer and Azarenka scored a comfortable win in the Doubles 2nd round over the Swiss team of Schnyder/Gagliardi, and I think they have a good chance against the higher ranked Mirza/Molik as well.
The QF (if they'll get there) will be tricky though.
I like them as a team.

True, there's no question the multiple slam winners are favorites, but that game you mentioned could have gone either way, it was 12-10 in the deciding TB. I still think it's a rare opportunity.

Shahar did not play well today, except for a few minutes near the end of the 3rd set. Vika was head and shoulders above the rest in the 1st, but her level of play declined afterwards.
As so often happens, Shahar's volleying was a painful sight. :o In singles you can live without it, but in doubles it's very hard.
They nearly stole it in the end, and who know what would've happened if they'd broken again to 5 all, but the better pair won.
Such a shame, it really was a great chance. An excellent achievement nontheless.

I don't know if this was posted somewhere:

Shahar Peer seems not to be handling all that well the pressure from home to fulfil national aspirations. It took her new coach, 1994 Wimbledon champ Conchita Martinez, to advise us all to back off a bit: "Why this obsession with the Top Ten? What does it matter if she's No.10 or No. 15? Shahar (she's actually No. 17) has the potential to be right at the top and to win anything. Just let her work quietly, patiently and to go on improving, but let her be." Wise words from the Spanish lady who achieved a heck of lot in her career - much more, in fact, than was expected of her.

This is one of a record 4 QFs of the Israeli players - the other three by Andyoni (together in doubles and each with his female partner in mixed).
Final tally (like in the Hagada :p):
4 Quarters, 3 Semis, 2 Finals, 1 Title :D :bounce:

I don't know if this was posted somewhere:

Shahar Peer seems not to be handling all that well the pressure from home to fulfil national aspirations. I saw that.. I agree and not agree..
Agree because there are so many pepole in I srael who think she should win every match she play and when she wins everything's fina and they like "top 10.. top 10.." but when she loses they say she sucks, she'll never get there..Not understanding everybody loses because of many reasons..
But I don't agree with that because there's nothing we can do about it.. Tennis starts to be popular and so does she, and the public wants to see results.. Every sport man/women has this pressure..
(Althouhg in here the people don't do it on the best way..)

I don't think pressure affect her THAT much because she always seem to perform well in front of the Israeli crowds, but yeah I do think all the top10 talks getting a bit into her mind, but I trust her good mentality to shrug it off.
You can't blame people for wanting her to be on the top10 badly :)

I think she wants to progress so badly but the fear that it might not happen is starting to creep in. And it doesn't help that she sees players her age starting to shine while she is "left behind".
Also I think she puts too much into being "clijsteresque", meaning being in good relationship with every one, and it's hurting her in the ruthlessness department.

Coping with these changes is in a way part of growing up. She will have to find her own way to balance these things out and prevail.
I don't think it's impossible :)

another thing is that I think there has been too much talk about how she has to improve her game because this or that aspect is really bad or unsuitable.
I think it has shattered her confidence quite a bit.
Even when she had some success there was a "but" weighing on her.
This is also something that I hope with the help of her coaches, and with time, as she feels more comfortable with the changes she has had to make in her game, this will resolve itself.
