I never could understand why Shahar is picking her partner, and then changing to another.

Interesting article in Jerusalem Post

Shahar Pe'er said on Monday that she's no longer content with her current world ranking and that she intends to continue her meteoric rise in 2008.

"In the upcoming season I must improve. Maintaining my current ranking can no longer be regarded as a success," Pe'er said in a press conference in Tel Aviv.

The 20-year-old Israeli will end 2007 ranked No. 17 in the world, three places higher than she finished 2006.

"I'm prepared for 2008 and I'm feeling strong, both mentally and physically. I don't know what results I will record, but I have two new coaches and that will be significant. I want to do well in the big tournaments and also record good results on a consistent basis," she said.

Pe'er returned to Israel on Sunday after spending the last five weeks training with her new Spanish coaches Gabriel Urpi and former world No. 2 Conchita Martinez.

"I've been through five intensive weeks with Urpi and Martinez and I'm exhausted," she said. "It's difficult to say how they will improve my game, but they have both given me a lot. On the mental side, they taught me to take things easy and I'm also feeling much better on court.

"Martinez is a very special woman and I love working with her. She and Urpi think exactly

I saw the match on TV. IMO that's her way of changing pace, and that's no new move from her.
I was very impressed though of Tzipi playing in the first set.
High class tennis.

It was good match.
In the third set Tzipi played very well too, and it was match tighter than the result, but she didn't take her chances

Pe'er surges ahead in 'Post' sports personality poll
By JERUSALEM POST SPORTS STAFF

World number 17 Shahar Pe'er is odds-on to win The Jerusalem Post Israeli Sports Personality of the Year award next week.
With three days gone since the poll opened on Tuesday, the 20-year-old has already garnered more than 40 percent of the vote. More than 800 people have registered their choice on-line or via e-mail.

After a slow start, Israel captain Yossi Benayoun who plays English soccer club Liverpool has moved into second place on 21%. Chelsea manager Avraham Grant is currently in third position, close behind on 15%, while up-and-coming tennis star Dudi Sela is in fourth with 9%.

Readers still have three more days to choose their Israeli favorite sports personality of the last 12 months. Russia and Efes Pilsen basketball coach David Blatt, sailors Udi Gal and Gidi Kliger and marathon runner Haile Satayin are still in the running.

To vote for your favorite Israeli sports star, log on to the sports section of www.jpost.com or e-mail sports@jpost.com.

The Jerusalem Post Israeli Sports Personality of the Year will be announced in the December 31 issue of the paper and on-line, along with the other winners of The Jerusalem Post's Sports Awards 2007
