Moi j'y vais ;) I'll be there both qualies & semifinals/final week-ends :) tennis-jack Mar 9th, 2008, 02:18 PM Tickets BOX OFFICE opens tommorow :) TheBoiledEgg Mar 12th, 2008, 05:30 PM ticket box opened some days ago tickets now a right rip-off :help: http://www.theticketfactory.com/Series/dfsclassic0806.html even for LTA Members tickets now £85 for week :o they were £60 last yr for whole week. they nearly tripled in last 2-3 yrs cost now is just like a day out at outside courts at Wimbledon now :spit: bluepastures Mar 15th, 2008, 09:53 AM I'll be watching Qualifying / practice over the opening weekend of Birmingham. Fortunately I've been lucky with the weather that weekend for the last few years. Stefi62, if it's got to be one or the other, I'd say go for Eastbourne, the viewing on the outside courts is far better. paul_masterton Mar 20th, 2008, 11:56 AM i love the outside courts at birmingham :) *Jean* Mar 23rd, 2008, 12:17 PM I'll be there. But I dont manage to buy qualifications ticket, there is nothing on the website. Is it free ? Anyone going there with me ? I'm a Frenchman and I think I'm gonna be lost in that big town :D tennis-jack Mar 23rd, 2008, 01:40 PM Im mostly sure its free! because I was going to go to watch qualifying but didnt end up going but I watched the saturday last 16 and quaters I Was goin on the sunday qualifying to find out where it was but we didnt end up going but yes Im pretty sure there free! *Jean* Mar 23rd, 2008, 03:57 PM Ooh okay thanks for the information :) TheBoiledEgg Mar 26th, 2008, 08:53 PM qualies are free anbd at same place. Jean....... are you staying in a hotel ?? best place to go out at night is down Broad Street, there's where alot of the players go, where all the clubs are. i saw Anna C getting lost with her dad the 1st day she was there  paul_masterton Mar 27th, 2008, 01:34 PM i bumped into Milagros Sequera and Lilia Osterloh in MacDonalds when I went :p bluepastures Apr 6th, 2008, 10:45 AM Just booked my hotel this morning. I'm staying in the city centre this year (there's lots of buses, even on Sunday), but for hotels within walking distance of the tennis, there's quite a few good value places on Hagley Road. Pdm1987 Apr 11th, 2008, 08:18 PM lucky I don't need a hotel :D but I'm going definitely for the qualies, dunno about the main draw though cos of the prices, maybe just the monday or tuesday. Farina Elia Fan Apr 11th, 2008, 08:31 PM i bumped into Milagros Sequera and Lilia Osterloh in MacDonalds when I went :p nice and healthy  I think I am going, depending on the entry list :p TheBoiledEgg Apr 12th, 2008, 01:06 PM Just booked my hotel this morning. I'm staying in the city centre this year (there's lots of buses, even on Sunday), but for hotels within walking distance of the tennis, there's quite a few good value places on Hagley Road. you staying in a pub again ? probably see you on the weekend for qualies. bluepastures Apr 13th, 2008, 04:41 PM No, I'm staying in the Thistle hotel near Birmingham Snow Hill station. Had a discount voucher, so thought I'd stay somewhere a bit more expensive. Quite convenient for Broad street too. That pub you refer too is the Wetherlodge on Bennetts Hill, which I did consider, but the problem is with them is they don't have proper online booking system. paul_masterton Apr 18th, 2008, 11:22 AM i stayed in teh comfort inn when i went. dirt cheap, but there was a reason why, lol. Great event, would be a travesty if it's moved :( -sugi- Apr 21st, 2008, 07:59 PM My tickets and hotel are booked. :D I am going on Sunday Qualifying and Monday. :bounce: I just have a few questions - Is food available at the venue and if so is it expensive like some tournaments are? I also noticed parking costs £10 on the website. Is there anywhere else nearby to park. Thankyou :D :wavey: Paule22 Apr 23rd, 2008, 09:10 AM I booked a flight! :bounce: I'm gonna be there on Saturday and Sunday Qualifying. Now I just need to find some good place to stay :) I'm so excited, I always wanted to go to Birmingham (not the tournament in particular). TheBoiledEgg Apr 23rd, 2008, 05:13 PM My tickets and hotel are booked. :D I am going on Sunday Qualifying and Monday. :bounce: I just have a few questions - Is food available at the venue and if so is it expensive like some tournaments are? I also noticed parking costs £10 on the website. Is there anywhere else nearby to park. Thankyou :D :wavey: you will be ok for Sunday parking i'm sure, parking on the street isnt viable and i've only seen Mr Bean do it once :tape: :haha: you can buy food on site :) there's that famous crepe wagon which all the players love. -sugi- Apr 23rd, 2008, 06:30 PM Thank you :). Mr Bean . I have heard so much about him. I hope I see him. :spit: Pdm1987 Apr 23rd, 2008, 08:25 PM you will be ok for Sunday parking i'm sure, parking on the street isnt viable and i've only seen Mr Bean do it once :tape: :haha: you can buy food on site :) there's that famous crepe wagon which all the players love. i always manage to park in the street, usually at the top or bottorm, during qualifying. Get the train to five ways and walk during the MD. Last year was the Crepe van open during qualies? I'm sure on the first day it was there, but closed, can't remember about the sunday. Those pancakes are expensive anyway for what they are! sugi, take your own food it's cheaper ;) imo it's never been that cheap but with the hike in ticket prices this year I'm wondering if the food will do the same?? TheBoiledEgg Apr 23rd, 2008, 08:41 PM Thank you :). Mr Bean . I have heard so much about him. I hope I see him. :spit: Mr Bean doesnt come to qualies. TheBoiledEgg Apr 23rd, 2008, 08:46 PM i always manage to park in the street, usually at the top or bottorm, during qualifying. Get the train to five ways and walk during the MD. for Sugi & others not been before its alot easier to get the bus from city center, 61, 62, 63 goes along Bristol Rd (A38) get off just after lights, there's a stop just 20m after Sir Harry's Rd. you got to cross the road (A38) and the club is about 2 min walk up Sir Harry's Rd. bluepastures Apr 24th, 2008, 07:16 PM No, Mr Bean doesn't turn up to Birmingham qualies, but he does for Eastbourne qualies. That is until the police throw him out!!! For people getting those buses that TBE mentions, take enough change with you, as they will only take the right change on those buses. I doubt they'll charge for parking on the qualifying weekend, since they aren't charging for entry. I'm pretty sure the crepe van was there last year, I like the mushroom crepes! I'd still rather walk from five ways than get the bus :p DokicForever May 7th, 2008, 09:17 AM Im hoping to go this year too :) *Jean* May 8th, 2008, 04:12 PM qualies are free anbd at same place. Jean....... are you staying in a hotel ?? No, I'll live in Birmingham at that time. I'll have my own flat, I haven't seen on a map where the club was compared to where I'll live, but my roomate told me it was just 5 miles away of the flat...I'll go there for the qualifications, and maybe for SF/F if it's not too expensive... Anyone to go there with me ? I hate going to tennis tournament all alone TheBoiledEgg May 9th, 2008, 02:51 PM No, I'll live in Birmingham at that time. Anyone to go there with me ? I hate going to tennis tournament all alone think finals weekend is sold out you got tickets ?? I'm hoping to go Tues & Wed (and qualies Sat) might go Sun Q if i can get down on the Sunday) looking to swap days at work tennis-jack May 9th, 2008, 03:04 PM do the players in the MD practice on qualifying suday ?? Shepster May 9th, 2008, 04:13 PM I'll probably do the 2nd and 3rd rounds midweek, I'm at a wedding the weekend before so I'll need a little while to recover. I love how JJ is on the flyers (they had some at the place where I play 5-a-side every week) now she's so "british" :yeah: *Jean* May 9th, 2008, 05:38 PM think finals weekend is sold out you got tickets ?? I'd still rather walk from five ways than get the bus :p £1.50 for a single on Travel west midlands since sometime late last year. luckily enough the train line from my house goes straight through to 5 ways, so i have always got off there and walked, but last year i got a bus from the city centre instead and trust me, its so much easier :p i wouldnt even bother with the 5ways walk now :p Depending on work i will go and buy on the day like always, might go to the qualifying if the weather is good and it is free. As for parking, could always park up at the university and walk back down the bristol rd to sir harrys road, but i think its quite a walk. *Jean* - what part of the city are you staying in? TheBoiledEgg May 10th, 2008, 09:44 AM £1.50 for a single on Travel west midlands since sometime late last year. how much now is the day thingy ?? think it was 2.90 last yr *Jean* May 10th, 2008, 10:06 AM *Jean* - what part of the city are you staying in? My flat is in Hockley, Waterside Drive. Do you know it ? I'll be there from next weekend A_S May 10th, 2008, 02:16 PM how much now is the day thingy ?? think it was 2.90 last yr the daysaver is £3. so you dont actually gain anything over 2 singles :p, that is unless you need 3 busses. Jean - I was just wondering because you said it wasnt far away from the tennis. Its not too far, but its a bit further than you probably think, because Birmingham is a big city. Wont be hard to get to though as the transport is good ;) TheBoiledEgg May 10th, 2008, 03:31 PM the daysaver is £3. so you dont actually gain anything over 2 singles :p, that is unless you need 3 busses. just asking cos in case need to leave cos of rain :o better to be in city centre  hate those buses that dont take change :o *Jean* May 10th, 2008, 04:00 PM the daysaver is £3. so you dont actually gain anything over 2 singles :p, that is unless you need 3 busses. Jean - I was just wondering because you said it wasnt far away from the tennis. Its not too far, but its a bit further than you probably think, because Birmingham is a big city. Wont be hard to get to though as the transport is good ;) Do you know by chance which bus I'll have to take ? Andrew May 10th, 2008, 07:33 PM Do you know by chance which bus I'll have to take ? There doesn't appear to be any direct bus for Hockley to Egdbaston, so the Daysaver ticket(Only accepted on Travel West Midlands buses not private companies like Midland Rider that sometimes run buses on the same routes) would be cheapest. There are also a number of ways to get there by different buses so it would probably be best to look at this website http://www.travelinemidlands.co.uk/JourneyPlanner.jsp?vm_Reset_str=true The 101 gets you into the Birmingham centre from Hockley. I would suggest possibly the number 1 from there but there are other options to you. Also be aware that buses in central Birmingham generally leave from 2 places Colmore Row and Corporation Street. (Although the number one leaves from Broad Street, just to confuse matters!) If I was you I'd go 101, bus to Broad Street then catch the 1.....as I think it's the shortest walk to the Priory Club in the end but whatever works for you ! Hope it's not to confusing, just trying to help:confused: Good luck to you anyway.....:) *Jean* May 10th, 2008, 07:44 PM Wow, it's gonna be complicated  I'll see when I'll be there how buses work, it seems very complicated! Thanks for the help :D A_S May 10th, 2008, 07:48 PM its not complex at all, you can phone the travel line if you need some help. basically you get a bus to the city centre, then a bus from the city centre to the priory club (you have to know where to get off though, ask the driver and he should stop for you!) *Jean* May 10th, 2008, 07:56 PM Anyway, I'm still in France and will discover Birmingham from next weekend, so I'll have the time to get used to the buses and the metro  Thanks for all the info, and if I'm still lost when I'll be there, I'll ask for help here :p And maybe we could travel together by bus  A_S May 10th, 2008, 09:04 PM If you need any advice about Birmingham, Just ask ;) TheBoiledEgg May 10th, 2008, 09:08 PM so have the bus numbers been altered ?? used to catch 61, 62, 63 buses whats this #1 bus  *Jean* May 11th, 2008, 05:10 AM I guess he did mean the series of the 100, like the 101, 102 etc. I've seen on the journey planner that I'll have to take the 101, so that's maybe when he meant... Andrew May 11th, 2008, 02:15 PM The 101 will get you from Hockley into the centre.....From there it's your call. The number 1 leaves from Broad Street and then stops opposite the Edgbaston Old Church which I think is the closest bus stop to the road that leads to Edgbaston Priory(unless there's another way in that I don't know about, which could be possible) The 61,62 and 63 buses still run but go down the Bristol Road instead. Just depends on whether you fancy the walk up Priory Road or not that's all. Like I said there's many ways and many buses, especially if going down the Bristol Road. TheBoiledEgg May 20th, 2008, 11:42 AM you'll problably be able to get in on the day. you could in years gone by but the tourn has gotten more popular in recent yrs but this yrs prices have shot up so that might put a few people of. 3rd sunny week in a row in UK this one any bets when the tennis starts its gonna be rain  sammy01 May 20th, 2008, 01:46 PM im probably gonna go this year as well, will go for 2 of the 1st 5 days. i realy wanted chaky to enter. sharapovarulz1 May 20th, 2008, 05:00 PM I live in Manchester and was thinking of going on the Tuesday or Wednesday depending on the order of play. Yeah it would be brilliant we would all have a right laugh together :D we should hit the clubs after the tennis is finished ;) *Jean* May 21st, 2008, 05:49 AM Yep that's what I had proposed too  watchdogfish May 21st, 2008, 10:44 AM ok i've just sorted everything out, im getting the train to new street station and walking to sir harry's road (where the club is. its a 30 min walk but thats cool), the trains every 20 mins so all is cool. im gonna go on the tuesday (buying tickets there, but should be ok as i dont think they will sell out) depending on the weather i'll do either wednesday, thursday or friday as well. i'd be happy to meet up with anyone there, im just a bit mad but in a harmless way lol. That's what I did last year, it's not a bad walk just remember to take waterproofs or an umbrella or you'll get a soaking from the traffic if it rains :p Turns out I can't go this year which is a shame cos it's a nice, close venue. Hope everyone has a nice time and hopefully it'll stay rain-free! A_S May 21st, 2008, 06:17 PM ok i've just sorted everything out, im getting the train to new street station and walking to sir harry's road (where the club is. its a 30 min walk but thats cool), the trains every 20 mins so all is cool. im gonna go on the tuesday (buying tickets there, but should be ok as i dont think they will sell out) depending on the weather i'll do either wednesday, thursday or friday as well. i'd be happy to meet up with anyone there, im just a bit mad but in a harmless way lol. but wouldnt it be so much quicker, easier to get a bus? :p A_S May 21st, 2008, 06:20 PM I live in Manchester and was thinking of going on the Tuesday or Wednesday depending on the order of play. Never been before can i just buy tickets on the day, and if so can you get on the main show court by paying on the day? i bought on the door last year, but i did go early, about 9/10am. damn appologies for the double post.... i just didnt think :p *Jean* May 21st, 2008, 08:08 PM So from Waterside Drive, I should take the 101 to New Street, right ? And after ? sammy01 May 21st, 2008, 08:21 PM but wouldnt it be so much quicker, easier to get a bus? :p probably but im a 'green' person so if i can walk it i will, plus if its good weather it will be a nice walk. Alicia Molik May 25th, 2008, 02:37 PM When I went last year I walked back to new street station. It took me about 20 minutes. On the way back I walked along a long road then turned left down towards the Raddison hotel and I think I might have went through an underpass as well. Is that the quickest way? *Jean* May 25th, 2008, 06:13 PM From New Street Station, you can take the 61 or 62 or 63 from there I think sammy01 May 25th, 2008, 07:39 PM From New Street Station, you can take the 61 or 62 or 63 from there I think yeah i looked up the buses and those 3 go to or very near sir harry's road, but i've also got the route mapped out to walk and seen as its under 30 mins i think im going to walk. A_S May 26th, 2008, 08:37 AM basically the walk there is straight, you have to come out of the front of new st station go past the carpark and turn right past/under the bullring shopping centre, you walk down the hill and upto the island where you turn first left down bristol road, past bristol st motors and upto the massive junction where mcdonalds is, you go straight on and just continue walking straight on from that point until you get to sir harrys road (easy to miss btw), best to be on the right hand side of the road. anyway, ive driven the bristol rd many times, and i simply cant beleive its anything under a 40m/1h hour walk, its about a 5-10 minute drive, which makes it about 4 or so miles, which in turn makes walking pace 12 or 13 mph! Maybe its not as far as 4 miles but it does take quite a long while to drive down the bristol road. Maybe its not as far as 4 miles but it does take quite a long while to drive down the bristol road. i found it easier going down the steps where taxis are to Station St. find my way to the Roundabout on Holloway Circus and onto Bristol Rd/St its about 2 miles at most kolan May 26th, 2008, 01:55 PM i will definately be going for qualifying and for two other days. i think tuesday and wednesday :D sharapovarulz1 May 26th, 2008, 05:02 PM My Mum and I have managed to get a brand new flat only 8 miles from Edgbaston so we have decided to get up early each morning and walk until we are tired then hop on a bus lol Healthy and conveniant :D sharapovarulz1 May 26th, 2008, 06:10 PM Nicole Vaidisova will play here, she entered today according to my source :) probably a late entry as for Eastbourne :) This needs to be put in Early Entries mate :) What source is it? RayRob May 27th, 2008, 07:18 AM Hi all, I haven't been on these forums for a while....so long I didn't even know the name had changed!!!! Anyway, I'll be making my usual journey to Birmingham this year - I think this is 9 years in a row. I love this event I'll be there for Sat & Sun (SF/F). Catching the train and doing my usual walk from 5 ways...I've always preferred that way, but that's just me! Sunday I should be driving because the trains between my city and Birmingham might not be running very well (buses instead), which is problematic for me. So, I don't mind paying £10 for parking...hope I can still pay on the gate for parking...if not, anyone know where I can pay in advance? Anyone be there the same days as me? Low pressure should retreat towards the northwest of the British Isles, allowing high pressure to build towards the southern half of Britain. As a result of this, rainfall may be well above average in the northwest of Scotland but at or below average across the south of the British Isles. Temperatures will generally be above the seasonal norms with the possibility of some very warm weather in northern and eastern parts. However, fine weather may not mean exceptional sunshine amounts, even in southern England. *Jean* Jun 2nd, 2008, 12:42 PM I still dont know which bus to catch from the city center  My bus leaves me at Snow Hill Station... Is there anything really special to see, because I'm getting there this Friday to walk around a bit? there's always alot of players around, most of them go watch on outside courts where you'll find Marion eating :o you'll need a good cam to take pics on outside courts only C1 can be seen at side. practice courts you can get better shots A_S Jun 4th, 2008, 10:34 PM I'd say its better to get shots on the outside courts nearer the club house because you can get right behind the server as long as you have the focal length, for example see this picture (http://members.aol.com/martynscot/blablabla.JPG) from 2006 Farina Elia Fan Jun 4th, 2008, 11:15 PM I'd say its better to get shots on the outside courts nearer the club house because you can get right behind the server as long as you have the focal length, for example see this picture (http://members.aol.com/martynscot/blablabla.JPG) from 2006 who is this :p Paule22 Jun 4th, 2008, 11:45 PM I like those kind of shots, though they are difficult from behind the server because it doesnt focus so well some time. TheBoiledEgg Jun 5th, 2008, 03:13 AM if you got a good cam, you can get a great shot of the player on opposite side of net, they are facing you. stalkers....... apart from Mr Bean  microgoogle Jun 5th, 2008, 03:25 AM hey guys...for those who r going, please try n get pictures of sania on and off the court...its long time see her...she is making her comeback after injury in Birmingham... *Jean* Jun 5th, 2008, 08:26 AM So qualifying matches start at 11AM ? And if I go there on Wednesday, what kind of tikets are there ? For the Center Court + the smaller courts ? Thanks  As far as I'm aware, you buy a ticket and that grants you entry onto Centre Court and all outside courts. To give you and idea, the venue is a tennis club and as such doesn't have permanent seating arrangements, so the seats you are on are professionally erected scaffolding and fold up plastic seats fitted in. There is next to no covering for spectators anywhere on the grounds. The outside courts are next to one another, separated only by advertisement banners. Seating for these courts are at the far side on embankments. Seats are fold-ups and you can move them for a better view (providing you're not obstructing someone else's view). There is also viewing room at one base line end of each court, so a lot of the time you see the back of a player close-up and the front of a player at a distance. When you ask if practice courts are open to the public, do you mean to watch or take part in a spot of practice? If it's the latter, then no you can't practice....if it's the former, yes indeed. The practice courts are adjacent to CC and can be viewed on the embankment next to the courts. You have a great view of the first court, but then players seem to visually shrink as the courts get further away. Seating is usually provided there in the form of fold-up chairs again. Other than tennis watching, there isn't a lot to keep you occupied; a crepe stand (yum yum), ridiculously expensive burgers, hot dogs etc, a couple of promotional stalls, a tent that sells some branded tennis gear and last year was the lovely chocolate fondue tent. Wednesday you should get tickets on the gate. I think I went on a Wednesday a couple of years back and there was quite a queue forming but it was probably because Sharapova was there?! Bare in mind though, that from Jelena's victory at Wimbledon last year with her Brit Xdubs partner, the country might have adopted her as one of their own....so might be keen to catch a glimpse of her. So, be on the guard for part-times fans who don't know a thing about tennis. I've been coming here for about 8 or 9 years and I always love coming back. You can get up close to the players...they're often just hanging around by the outside courts or practice courts, chatting to coaches and other players. It's a great place to see them just laid back and slightly care-free. Over the last few years, the even has got slightly bigger so I wonder how long the close-proximity with players will last. I hope some of this information is helpful to you. Need to know anything, just ask and I'll do my best. Rache *Jean* Jun 5th, 2008, 11:09 AM Thank you very much about that !
