By new do you mean strictly no one who has won a slam, or can this extend to people who have won slams but not in 2007?

To answer either way, yes, very much.

If somebody new reaches the final of a Slam (like Ivanovic or Bartoli this year) I would be happy.

I would like a new champion to win a grand slam but I wouldn't be disappointed if it doesn't happen.
I would be more disappointed if Sharapova doesn't take a slam.

I won't be disappointed. I like seeing the best, most talented players win. So far, the players who have won slams are demonstrably better than those who haven't. We're talking about Venus, Serena, Henin, Mauresmo, Kuznetsova, Sharapova and Davenport. That's a pretty heavy duty lineup. Forget the slams even. Serena has 28 WTA victories, Venus 36, Henin 39, Davenport 53, Mauresmo 24...

The non-slam winners counter with Jankovic 5, Ivanovic 5, Chakvetadze 6, Vaidisova 6, Bartoli, Petrova, Dementieva ....

Face it, it's just not close. Jankovic, Hantuchova and Bartoli all owe their rankings to quantity of play, not quality. (yes I know bartoli made the WB final, but she had to play 31 tournaments to get the #10 ranking even WITH the Wimbledon final. Ivanovic is showing signs, but she's as slow as Davenport and nowhere near as accurate. Still she could win RG, if somebody knocks off Henin for her.

I think it's 'wait til 09' for a 1st time slam winner.

Well, since my fave has yet to win a slam . . .

I don't care about any other "new" winners. I just want Lena D. to win one.
