Official Match Of The Year: Thread #2 - Nominate Wimbledon to End of Year

This is the official WTAWorld match of the year thread.

There will be two nomination threads, this is for the second half of the year (Wimbledon until the final match of the season.).
Don't be upset that perhaps your personal favourite is an obscure match, the ones that are chosen are ones that may have the most universal appeal.
The TOP 5 of each thread will be placed in a final thread to determine the match of the year.

Vote! Once both threads have been voted on a significant ammount, a final "match of the year" thread will be made.

This is hard... Justine def Venus is high quality, but Justine def Maria has more drama and excitement.

Again the choice is clear for me.
The Toronto Final, Justine beating Jelena. That match was :worship:
The quality was amazing. It was like watching atp tennis. The rallies, the offense, defense, defense to offense, these girls were throwing the kitchen sink at each other.

Venus/Henin was second for me but contrary to the highlights, there were several games where Venus made too many stupid errors for it to be my #1 match.

Easy for me, has to be that YEC final

My vote is for Jankovic vs Ivanovic LA SF

Not a single one of those matches really meant anything to me aside from one, and it's the obv one. Although I really enjoyed Ivanovic/Jankovic at LA this year, which is my vote.

It's funny how so many different Jankovic matches were considered "mini" classics this year.

Seeing that list makes me realise that the latter part of the year was certainly better in terms of producing good matches.

I didn't see any of the North American warm-up events, so I can't judge those matches. My choice would be the YEC final; the quality of tennis wasn't the best, but there was so much drama and intensity.

Justine Henin vs. Venus Williams by far! Quality + drama + excitement.
The YEC final wasn't a quality match at all.

Henin v. Venus.. we waited so long and it didn't really disappoint. Match of the year for me. Both were vying for their 7th slam. Both were the hottest players

If that final hadn't happened just two weeks ago (if that) and this poll was placed sometime in 2008 it wouldn't have that many votes.

I'm surprised Ivanovic/Jankovic got so few votes so far. Back in August that was being considered a modern-day classic. :o :lol:

It's tough, because I think the Los Angeles match between the Serbs was the highest quality match, and the most fun to watch, but it didn't have any real drama, as it wasn't a Slam or a Tier I or a final. I'll vote for it, but with reservations.

For me the best match of the year was the USO SF between Justine and Venus. It was such high quality with some absolutely amazing shots by both players :worship:

I had a hard time picking between the YEC Final, and the USO Semi. I think that the USO had better tennis but not real drama, and you always had the feeling that justine would pull out with the win. The YEC was poor tennis is some ways, but you never really knew who would win till then end.. So I went with the YEC final.

it was great quality, but they barely showed it in U.S., saw a couple games. but i later saw it, it was big hitting.

It's sad to me that the YEC final is winning, although that did have drama. I guess because it's fresh in everyone's minds.

Why people have to keep questionning others' choices I don't understand.

I went for the US Semi. But Jankovic - Safarova and Justine - Maria were both good too.

The Marion - Justine match. Can't pick this as it upset me.

I think the Venus - Maria Wimbly 4th round match should be included in the poll. It was top quality tennis from at least one side of the net that day :) It was amazing to see Vee just switch it on like that after struggling through the opening rounds.
