Really tough one...very close but Ana has the RG final!

I still voted Janko simply because her number of appearances has been fantastic! That shows huge commitments and is fantastic for her fans round the world. Plus to have a personality like hers consistantly entering events on the tour is great!

And 2nd in race, 3rd in rankings is incredible (better than Ana 2!) Go Janko!

Aaron.

At Slams:
Ana - 3r, F, SF, 4r
Jelena - 4r, SF, 4r, QF

Tournaments won:
Ana - 1 Tier I, 2 Tier II (+ 2 times runner-up (GS & Tier I))
Jelena - 2 Tier I, Tier III & Tier IV (+ 4 times runner-up (Tier I, 2 Tier II & Tier III))

Top10 wins:
Ana - 14 (4 at GSs)
Jelena - 7 (only 1 at a GS)

H2H this year - Ana won all 3 meetings.

Ana had a bad start to the season and a couple of bad losses to lower ranked players, plus some bad showings against a few top players. But she finished the year on a positive note with a good showing in Madrid. Whilst Jelena finishes the year with a 5-matches-losing streak. Jelena played 28 tournaments this year, comparing to Ana's 20 and Ana finished the year only 14 pts behind Jelena.

Ana had a better year than Jelena.

BTW, Jelena turned things around LAST YEAR.

Both had great seasons.
Made real progress in 2007, earned shitloads of money, are terrific ambassadors for themselves and Serbian tennis.
JJ had the edge in the first half of the year - Ana finished the stronger.
So I will call it a tie.

(That's my Miss World speech over with) :D

Now, which one is gonna push on - and achieve greater heights in 2008?

It's a tough call, they both have had a very good year but in a different way. Ana had better result in slams while Jelena won 2 big titles. I voted for Ana.

It's too close for me to call. As already said - they both have had success in different ways.

So if I don't vote - why am I posting. Simple - I just want to congratulate both players.

Jelena => 72/97 x 100 = 74.22% winning rate

Ana => 51/69 x 100 = 73.91% winning rate

While Jelena edges Ana in winning rate, you have to consider how many tournaments each player had participated in. Jelena has 28 tournaments, while Ana has 20 tournaments. Furthermore, Ana earned much more than Jelena with lesser tournaments played.

So, I would say that Ana had a better year. :wavey:

if you judged it based on who establish herself as a serious contender for the big titles, then obviously Ivano.

Jankovic showed she's a scheduling idiot already in the opening month of the season when she refuse to withdraw from Sydney after winning Aucklond. She really hurt her AO chance with such refusal. Still her year was very strong, until the final month or so. FO semi and a couple points away from USO semi.

Maybe Jankovic played some more tournaments, but she did very well in most of them.

Well, she played a lot more than Davenport and Ivanovic & Jankovic both played at least 20 tournaments, so it's something totally different. Despite Jankovic played few tournaments more she doesn't have way more early losses.

That's s pretty stupid argument considering that Jelena didn't get to RG final by virtue of playing Justine first and she also gave Justine a better run of her money than ana.

Nov 20th, 2007, 04:19 PM
Jelena didn't do too hot in the GS and the mandatory events - if she just did a little better she would probably have ended the year #2.

I'd have to say Ana for her better GS performances, and because she beat Jelena 3 times this year..... Jelena biggest weakness is still her mental ability.
