View Full Version : Players that haven't lost in 1st Round of a GS

DAVAJ MKirilenko
Nov 17th, 2007, 06:01 PM
From the current Top 100 there are 2 players that never lost in the 1st Round of a Grandslam.
Serena Williams is by far the top of the list. Only once she lost in the 2nd Round. It was her debut at a grandslam tournament. (AO'98)

It looks that Chris Evert has the ALL-Time record.
56 Grandslams and never lost in the first 2 Rounds.

I think that players which never lose GS 1st round, but also never won some MD GS match not deserve to be here (what achivement is that ).

For me is most interesting players which played at every of 4 slams atleast once but never lose 1st round. Chances to join Serena Williams, Ana Ivanovic and Rafael Nadal in that exclusive club already at US Open have Alisa Kleybanova from Russia. Alisa chances will be actualy very good because she is currently #35 with easy job to reach SEEDS status at USO/08 which garantee her worse ranked opponent in 1st round.

Serena's up to 38 now...she might catch Chris

She'd have to play through 2013 US Open without missing a slam in order to do so. She's still only played all four slams in a year four times. I'd say the odds of doing that more than two or three more times are slim.

Basically, she'd have to keep playing until she's 33 or 34 years old, and keep playing without facing good players. She might do it, but I have doubts she'll play long enough.
