Barbara Miele lose to Sara Archambault

Barbara Miele didn't find her good form to face the newcomer Sara Archambault from Canada. After making a good tournament in Coffee Bowl, losing to Natalya Dhopolcova, who was defeated by Barbara's sister, Lara, Barbara made a tremendous first set, but lost completely the concentration, caused by the Latin American's crowd.

After the incident in Casablanca, in Mexico, when Miele insulted the crowd, and fought with the umpire, the Venezuelan crowd didn't respect Miele, and was cheering for Archambault, and booing the Latin-American player. "I feel ashamed of this people. How can they have any respect?" Miele ressault.

"I would skip this tournament, cause there is a lot of people that I can't stand. Natalya who thinks she is the queen. But for me she is a nobody. Katerina, who always cries remembering Marta Maria in her interviews. She should be trying to find time for praticing her tennis instead of giving attention in someone who already died, and was incredibly stupid." disclosed Barbara Miele for the media.

The Miele sisters are still on doubles tournament, they seemed to found their best form again, after winning 3 tournament consecutively, the sisters had bad moments, and now after reaching the final of Coffee Bowl, the sisters are favourite again to win this Venezuelan Championships.

Mutola defeats Gonzalez

I am very happy to finally win a singles match. I know remember what it is like to win again on the singles court (laughter). I play my good friend Catherine next, so I hope we both play well. :)

Jan 8th, 2002, 03:34 AM
Zerene Fernandez

"You can't believe what a wonderful feeling this is! I was playing so horribly and I just sat down when I was down 0-6, 0-2, and just told myself, 'stop your sulking bitch, get out there and play!' And I did! And I won! I'm sooooo happy!"

Jan 8th, 2002, 04:25 AM
Carolina Spencer happy and relief after getting to the quarters...
"Yeah this was such a toug match for me... i was not playing that well coming into this tournament and today with my people here supporting me was so difficult, Leslie played too well today i thought at some stages of the match that i was out of the tournament, im glad that at least i did not dissapointed my fan here "

comments from meghann adeva:

"i am so glad that i get to finally win against a top player. i told myself after that second set, 'oh no ... you arent letting this go ...' great match, im really tired right now though ..."

comments from Natalya Dlhopolcova

"I am disappointed to lose to Lara as I have beaten her before in the past, but she played well today, and I was unable to play as well as I did last week at the Coffee Bowl. I wish her good luck for the rest of the tournament.

As for Barbara, it is obvious she is jealous that I beat her her last week, and have already passed her in the rankings. When she learns to win a match over anybody, maybe I will worry about what she says. In the meantime, she may as well keep bowing down to "the Queen" as she likes to call me, cause she sure as heck isn't proving she's any better!"

Jan 9th, 2002, 03:04 AM
Barbara answer Natalya :

"Jealous?? Of a girl like her? *laughing* I should be happy, cause I'm not like her! I'm not worry about the rankings, I'm worry in my tennis, and the tournaments and who I play! Not in snobbish girls like her, trying to make the others learn a lesson with them!
Natalya will end like Marta Maria.... Snobbish girls usually has this destiny marked... Just alerting Natalya from the worse *laughing*"

Natalya's response to Barbara:

"*laughter* this child thinks she can threaten me with death remarks?? She's got another thing coming at her if the think she will intimidate me with that! Barbara claims to be focusing on her tennis, but if she was, she would be winning matches more often! Obviously she is not focusing too much because her ranking is getting worse, just like her tennis. She is the snob who has no sorrow for the passing of the Conde sisters!"

A few quotes from Fleur Delacour

When asked about playing on clay again (her favourite surface):

"I'm so happy to be playing on clay again, you know the last time I played on clay was in the semi-finals of Roland Garros, so it certainly brings back memories. I'm also having a great time here in Venuzuela."

When asked about reaching the semis of the Venezuelan Championships and her form:

"I'm happy with my current form, I was struggling just before this tournament, so I guess I am peaking at the right time with the Australian Open coming up. I've won 2 straight 3 set matches, so I'm fighting well and I'm pretty fit."

When asked about Caroline Spencer, her opponent in the semis:

"You know I rejoined the juniors tour just a few months ago, and there are so many girls right now, I have no idea who 90% of them are, and obviously I'm playing many of them for the first time. So hopefully I could figure out her game. I'm confident."

Katarina Kriventcheva-Molik won her 7th straight match with a 7-5, 7-6(3) win over Sara Archambault, her first round opponent in last week's Coffee Bowl. Molik won her first singles tournament at the Coffee Bowl, pushing her up 8 spots in the rankings to no.2, and only 65 points behind no.1 ranked player and doubles partner Daniela Turundzhov. Molik now faces Zerene Fernandez in the semifinals of Venezuela, a player she pulled off a scoring upset over in the quarterfinals of the Coffee Bowl. Here are her thoughts:

"I am so thrilled with my play. Sara really put out a great match, and it was tough playing her, as we had already played last week. I am still in shock at my recent success with the Coffee Bowl, and I really want the no.1 ranking. Zerene will be a very tough match, I know because I played her last week as well ;), but I hope to keep playing consistently and clean and hope to keep on winning. I also want to do well with my new partner Daniela Turundzhov, as we are going to play our second tournament at the Australian Open. Speaking of the Australian Open, I received a spot in the qualifying draw of pros, and I also am with Shiho Katsumi in teh doubles draw. PLUS, I will also play the Junior Australian Open! SO, next week will be a very tough week for me, so I hope my winning streak continues. Thanks so much. :D "

Katarina Kriventcheva-Molik won her 9th consecutive match yesterday, beating arch rival Zerene Fernandez 7-6, 6-2. Molik is a mere 65 points away from the no.1 spot. This appearance in the final could move her up to that prestigious spot. However, Linzey Paterson of Great Britain is to face Molik in the final. Paterson is ranked no.4, so is in striking range. Molik played Paterson 3 weeks ago, losing in a tough two-setter 7-6 7-6. Let's hope Katarina can continue her shocking and amazing winning streak! :D

Jan 10th, 2002, 09:25 PM
Barbara Miele responds Natalya :

"Why I would respect Marta Maria??? She was a bitch! She didn't deserve any respect, even alive! Ok my ranking cannot intimidate, but I'm sure my attitude can!!! She's better watch' out! I rather see which persons I'm dealing with than my tennis!! And thanks God Katerina forget Marta Maria! She was becoming dust, and still being the center of her interviews!! Weldone Katerina! :)

OOOH, and Weldone Lara! I know we would win more! We rule!"

Dlhopolcova Storms Past Loud-Mouthed Miele

After losing in singles to top 10 player Lara Miele this week in Venezuela, Natalya Dlhopolcova eased into the doubles final getting revenge on Lara, and also silencing her loud mouthed and arrogant younger sister Barbara.

"Zerene and I are very happy to be in the doubles final together, and we are even more happy to have beaten Barbara Miele. She has tried to critisize me this week, and once again we showed her that she is nothing but talk. When she develops talent and stops relying on her sister for results, maybe her comments will be slightly intimidating. I'm very happy to have disposed of her and prove again that she will never be a better player than me!"

When asked about her chances in the final, Natalya stated "Katerina and Daniela are excellent players, and I know that it will be very difficult for us to win the title over them. We're happy to make the final, hopefully we can win, but we will have to work very hard for it."

After winning the Coffee Bowl for her first ever tournament, Katarina Kriventcheva-Molik stormed to final to face the gutsy player in Fleur Delacour. Molik played well in the first set, only blowing several chances to finish off the match in the second set, losing the second set tiebreaker 11-9, after holding 2 match points. Molik then lost the third set 7-5, to lose the match. However, this was Molik's third straight final. She also played in the doubles final in her first tournament with new partner Daniela Turundzhov, losing to the talented pair of Dhlopocova/Fernandez 7-6 (9) 2-6 6-2. However, Molik is very proud of her late play, possibly moving her up to the no.1 ranking! She will play singles pro qualifying and doubles main draw in the Australian Open. Let's hope she does well! She is sure on a roll! Molik faces Elena Dokic in the qualification round.

comments from Natalya Dlhopolcova:

"First off congratulations to Daniela and Katerina, they are good friends of mine, and it was a pleasure to go out there and play such a high quality final against them. Well done on a good week. Secondly, thank you to Zere who was amazing all week, and without her I would not be winner here, so thank you to her also."

Playing for the first time on clay in more than 8 months, 17 year old French girl Fleur Delacour has claimed the Venezuelan Juniors Championships. Fleur is ecstatic to have won her first juniors tournament since her comeback. She's also really looking forward to playing in the Australian Open and eventually the claycourt season. In the final Delacour also snapped the winning streak of the #3 seed Molik.

Fleur said "I'm happy to be back in the winner's circle, for awhile I thought I was under-achieving, I'm happy to be playing my best tennis just before a grand slam, and hopefully this 2002 gets better than last year!". Delacour is in the maindraw of the Australian Open starting this week and draws Larissa Liashenko and is on track to meet #11 seed Regla Torres in the 2nd round.
