Is the Tennis Channel covering this event?

I don't think so, but the CCTV Channel could show it. I heard this Channel showed it last year. You will need the TVU Player to watch this channel.

Michelle playing

Michelle De Brito was brought in as a back up. In previous years, the organizer had run into the problem when an invited major star got injured. Last year, they brought Caroline Wozniacki as a back up. She did play some singles matches when someone (forgot who) retired. She did well enough that they now invite her as one of the main draws.

The Hong Kong exo has a pretty short history. They started it a few years ago as a way to bring Sharapova to Hong Kong. It has been expanding since, but Sharapova is always invited.

The top stars are definitely paid very well. I believe I read somewhere that the appearance fee for a major star is around $250,000-$300,000 but people like Sharapova can get even more.

Starlets like Caroline Wozniacki would get much less, but it's still worthwhile for her. Hong Kong is in the about same time zone as Australia. It's a legitimate warm up event considering the presence of so many stars.

Maria was only 12 when the Hong Kong exo began (in 2000). I don't think it was started because of her, although she has been invited every year since at least 2003.
