Ditto the year that featured the greatest finals of them all and some amazing matches.
Sabatini-Novotna
Seles-Sanchez Vicario
Graf-Capriati
Sabatini-Graf (her best match against Graf ever)

Graf-Hingis!
That final was not that great, in fact 1995 match against Huber was a much better final, than the 1996 one.
Hingis was cramping in the fourth set and Graf still managed to give it away on her errors.
Even in the final set she struggled in some games despite the inevitable 6-0 against Hingis who had nothing in the end.

Actually after this match i kept thinking that Graf´s reign as number one was coming to an end.

When Clijsters won it for the first time, and the year before. Her semifinal against Davenport was really good. It was very exciting then because if she won, Jennifer Capriati would be #1.

2003. My favourite top players played like Mauresmo, Henin & Dementieva but especially Sugiyama, Clijsters, Capriati, Rubin & Myskina. After that it hasn't been as fun for me.

Was 2002, the year that Clijsters defeated Serena Williams in the final? I really like that year as well. The semi between Serena and Capriati was some great stuff. I think that match took a lot out of Serena for the finals against Clijsters.

2002, Kim was absolutely irresistible. Defeating Serena (who was at the top of her game) in straights plus her sister and Justine. Amazing

She did not end another year as number one.. so you better shut yours. :p

Graf seemed at that point (end of 1996) that her injuries would take over her, knee, back problems would not dissapear anymore.

2005, of course, when Amelie defeated Mary in a great final.

Followed by 1997, when Novotna won. Oddly enough she also beat Mary in the final. :)

Graf played great matches against Novotna, Davenport and Hingis.
Although she was injured.
Her reign indeed came to an end some months later due to injuries. Otherwise she would have won slams until at least 2004. She was soooo far ahead of the field in 1996. And only 27 years old.
After YEC 96 anyone who would have predicted that Graf would end her career with only 22 slams would have been laughed off the court. All experts were sure that Graf would AT LEAST have 25 slams in the end. Many thought that she would be able to reach 30 slam titles.

Whichever years Martina killed Steffi and the year Monica and Gabby went to 5 sets...

Martina was able to beat Graf when Steffi was 16 or just 17 years old.
After that Martina was toast usually. I still remember YEC 1989 when Graf toyed with Navratilova in the end (same at Wimbledon and USO that year).

Nastya making the SF, losing to Sharapova in a disgusting and awful atmosphere (Yuri!!!!!! )

I fell in love in that young Martina in 1996 final. pity she didn't win it :(
Also 2000 final was great,so much drama, the match could go either way!
I was crying along with Martina after that win :)
P.S could someone who watched that final remember the song that was being played after the match ended???
