I hope she picks up her game for this summer hardcourt season. With no chance to defend her San Diego F points, with the tournament being scrapped and all, she is going to need a miracle to stay in the Top16 with a horde of young guns behind her. She should get lessons from Dinara on how to turn a season around...

lympyisthebest
Jul 6th, 2008, 12:53 PM
Does anyone know her summer hardcourt schedule? She normally plays Cincy, Stanford, San Diego and Canada. There's no San Diego this year, but there's Olympics, so i'll doubt she'll play the tournament in LA.

justine schnyder
Jul 6th, 2008, 12:56 PM
Umm Cincy is on the same time as the olympics, so she won't plays there, for now I know she'll play Stnford

lympyisthebest
Jul 6th, 2008, 01:01 PM
In that case, it looks like she'll most likely play 3 tournaments leading up to USO. She's definitely playing Olympics right? And she wouldnt want to miss out on Tier 1 points in Canada, especially she wont defend her San Diego final points.

justine schnyder
Jul 6th, 2008, 01:07 PM
Yeah, for now she'll play Stanford and the Olympics for sure, and playing Toronto seems right imo. I think she'll play those 3 with option for tanking in Toronto :)

lympyisthebest
Jul 6th, 2008, 01:11 PM
Every player seems to either withdraw or tank Canada. But i seriously hope she plays well in Canada, it's the only Tier 1 leading up to USO. How many points do they give out at the Olympics, is it equivalent to a Tier 1?

justine schnyder
Jul 6th, 2008, 01:19 PM
That I don't know... Hopefully I'll find some info soon though.
She better play well in Canada if she doesn't want her ranking to fall badly, I'm not sure how much she cares though..

Jul 6th, 2008, 01:37 PM

Stanford's draw is out. Patty is in the top half of it, who is imo the tougher one (Serena, Zvonareva).
Patty will play in the first round against WC (Amber Liu [any details of her btw?]), if she wins then 2nd round against Kleybanova or Vesnina, and if she wins so probably Serena.. Shall I go on?

justine schnyder

Amber Liu shouldnt cause Patty any trouble, she hardly plays any WTA events, she only gets WC into Standford and some other US hardcourt events every year.

Patty is gonna double bagel Serena, just like in Zürich, before Serena chickened out

Kleybanova is tall, has a great serve, and has big flat groundies. This description fits many of the players Patty loses to. Of course Alisa is one of the slowest girls out there, so that will work in Patty's favor.

I think it depends on Patty. She the better player on a given day as far as I know.
I know Kleybanova has improved a lot since then, but if it matters Patty beat her at Gold Coast 6:3 6:1. I hope she can do it again (But to get pass Liu before ;) )

Patty won 6-1 6-1, I watched the entire match. She played very very well, keeping her shots nice and deep and her backhand held up under some pretty big shots from Liu. It was a nice performance but she was never going to lose to Amber Liu. The real tournament begins next round.

justine schnyder
Jul 16th, 2008, 04:34 PM
I can't believe I woke up at 5:00am to watch this! But I did.. Anyway, nice match, like it should have been, This match was over hyped imo, Liu is an ITF player and Patty isn't, not "even" this year.

Patty played well, and she was simply the better player. Like you wrote, Greg, her BH and serve worked pretty well as well and I hope she can keep it in the next match as well.

I have never seen Kleybanova play before, can anyone tell me about her? I only know she has a big serve..

lympyisthebest
Jul 16th, 2008, 04:36 PM
Kleybanova is the player who took out Daniela at Wimbledon :sobbing:

I saw a bit of that match, she's a ballbasher, against Daniela, she was hitting winners all over the place. :tape: But her movement isn't that good.

justine schnyder
Jul 16th, 2008, 04:41 PM

Urrgg ballbasher :( I hope she'll have an off day becuase her results are very good lately..And that Patty will take advantage from her weak movement..

I watched some games in the second set and Patty was not playing very well she just plays a decent match.Made some nice winners with her forehand but her backhand was not deep and Strebonik could goes to net to close the point with her volley so Patty must be careful.
She needs to player deeper and trying to move Kata also it will be good if Patty is able to play so high balls on the backhand side so then she will be able to hit with the court open that is katarina weaknest point in my opinion..

Best of luck Patty.
It will be a great match to watch for sure :hearts:

Patty vs Katarina 4/6-6/3-*0/0

It is a great match to watch with more winners than mistakes and both players playing pretty well at the net winning a lot of points in there..so great winners with her forenhand down the line because she is open the court playing with cross-court shots on kata backhand and then she has the court open and hit a winner or approch and finish the point with a volley. When Katarina put her first serve Patty is in troubles because her opponent have one of the best volleys on tour..
Keep fighting Patty :rocker:

Yes, Stuttgart/Zurich/Linz to cap off the year for Patty.

At least quarterfinals in all would be a nice way to end the season and get her ready for another push at the beginning of next season for the top ten. She needs to go deep in at least one or two, as in the final.

I don't like the draw, Bammer in the second round is very tough considering Sybille has beaten her twice this year (both in straight sets). The qualifier will probably be either Grönefeld, Sugiyama, Niculescu, or Arvidsson and I am okay with pretty much all of them.

I just knew as soon as Petra qualified that she would draw Patty. It is just my luck, out of the four players Patty could have drawn it would be my #2 favorite Petra. I really don't think the match should be too difficult for her because Petra is exactly the type of player she likes to play (slow, inconsistent, inexperienced). Patty usually handles young players like this with ease the first couple times she plays them and then has trouble beating them (Ivanovic).

Petra isn't a fave of mine like she's yours, but still, although I'm glad that atleast a player I like won a match, I'm really sad for Patty.. Playing there for the last time, in her home tourny, and losing in the 1st round, especially after having such a draw... Damn..

Anyways, she better do something good next week...

Patty Schnyder: disappointing end

The great thing about the tennis scoring system is that there is always time to come back - and Switzerland's No 1 woman player Patty Schnyder knows that to her cost after snatching defeat from the jaws of victory at the TENNIS.com Zurich Open.

After recovering from dropping the first set, Schnyder led 3-0 in the decider with a double break and looked on her way to a place in the second round. But the 18-year-old Czech Petra Kvitova battled back to take six of the last seven games to run out a 6-4 3-6 6-4 winner.

The 57th ranked Czech now plays either Sofia Arvidsson or Sybille Bammer for a place in the last eight.

For Schnyder, it was a disappointing end to what could prove to be her last tour appearance on Swiss soil, at least in singles. "Of course I'm disappointed," she said after the match, "but nothing I can say will change the result."

After struggling with indoor tennis in the early part of her career, Schnyder grew to love the one top-level tournament for women on Swiss soil, winning it in 2002. "For me it's an emotional situation here," she added. "I've had the chance to play here for 15 years and I've really appreciated it."

Schnyder remains in the doubles where she and Anna Lena Groenefeld are into the second round.

The fourth and fifth paragraphs are very alarming. :bigcry:

I think it's because it's Zurich last yea as an indoor tourny, no?
I hope it doesn't mean she won't be around...

Patty will play Linz next week, I won't be around next week to follow results, I hope I'll find out something nice when I'll be back, so have great week you all and.. GL Patty!!! ;)

Yes, false alarm.

I completely forgot Zürich would be no more as of next year. I was really starting to freak out for a second there. Anyway, here is Patty's section in Linz.

(5)Bartoli vs. Sugiyama
(wc)Paszek vs. Q
A.Bondarenko vs. Q
(4)Patty Schnyder vs. Bye

Not a bad draw, should reach QF with no problem and beat either Bartoli or Paszek. Worst case scenario would be Petra Kvitova qualifying again and beating Bondarenko in the first round. :o Hopefully that doesn't happen.

She faces Alona. Alona won her first match with relative ease. But she hasn't been in her best form after her injury earlier this year.

Fed Cup tommorow.
God help me I have no idea what to expect..
She'll start the tie (in Switzerland) with a match against Gorenefeld (interesting to see how they both will deal with playing each other after being pretty good doubles partner and friends..)
and after that Timea will play against Lisicki.

I'm curious to see in what form Patty and Timea will show up.. They're always a question mark, especially now..

Good luck Switzerland! :)

Here's an article about the tie:
Swiss look to crowd for boost
Patty Schnyder and Timea Bacsinszky are both confident the home crowd will give the Switzerland team an advantage ahead of their 2009 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group II first-round tie against Germany in Zürich this weekend.

The official draw for the tie, made early Friday afternoon at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Zurich, is as follows:

Saturday
Patty Schnyder (SUI) v Anna-Lena Groenefeld (GER)
Timea Bacsinszky (SUI) v Sabine Lisicki (GER)

Sunday
Patty Schnyder (SUI) v Sabine Lisicki (GER)
Timea Bacsinszky (SUI) v Anna-Lena Groenefeld (GER)
Patty Schnyder/Timea Bacsinszky (SUI) v Kristina Barrois/Tatjana Malek (GER)

Schynder confident that crowd will help

World No. 16 Schnyder, who takes on world No. 64 Anna-Lena Groenefeld in the opening match of the weekend Saturday, said after the official draw that despite a tough start to the year for her she is confident she can put the Swiss team on the right track – with a little help from the red-and-white clad supporters at the 2,200-seater Saalsporthalle Zürich.

“Yes, it’s very important to have the crowd behind you in ties such as this,” said Schnyder, who suffered early defeats at both the Australian Open and the Hobart International in January.

“It wasn’t a great start to the season so my season starts here and although it doesn’t matter too much who plays first I want to start with a win,” said Schnyder.

Bacsinszky echoed team-mate Schnyder’s comments and said home Fed Cup ties give her that little extra boost.

“It’s great because family and friends can come to watch me play so I really want to perform in front of them,” said the world No. 60 who has been carrying an injury and missed out on playing at the Australian Open in January.

From doubles partners to singles rivals

Schnyder and Groenefeld, who have been regular doubles partners of late and last week reached the Australian Open quarterfinals together, have played each other in competition once before in 2005 in Rome on clay in a match the Swiss star won in straight sets.

“It was a long time ago so I don’t remember much but Groenefeld was beginning to rise as a player then and she has continued with this,” said Schnyder.

Bacsinszky, on the other hand, has never played Lisicki although she has played against both Germany’s mooted doubles partnership, world No. 92 Barrois and world No. 188 Malek, beating both in straight sets.
Switzerland favourite

The odds, then, appear to slightly favour Switzerland but Groenefeld said that Germany has the team to bounce straight back to the World Group after the two-time champions (1987, 1992) were relegated last year, the fifth successive year the team has been either promoted from World Group II or relegated from the World Group.

“We have a good team spirit and it means a lot to see my team-mates. We are confident we have the team in place,” said Groenefeld.

Switzerland and Germany last met in the 1983 Fed Cup semifinals, also in Zürich, which the Germans won to extend their lead against the Swiss to 3-1.

The Swiss have won their last seven Fed Cup ties and clinched promotion from the Europe/Africa Group I last year. They earned their best Fed Cup result in 1998 when they reached the final before losing 3-2 to Spain after leading 2-1.

Patty Schnyder (SUI) d. Anna-Lena Groenefeld (GER) 76(0) 63 :yeah:

17 winners and 15 errors, not too bad. Groenefeld must have been going for everything, she had 38 winners and 42 errors. Now I hope Timea can somehow win and put them in a winning position.

I'm not expecting much from Patty tomorrow but for the team's sake I really think they need to switch out Bacsinszky with Vögele and maybe she can beat Grönefeld tomorrow.

justine schnyder
Feb 7th, 2009, 09:53 PM
yeah I think they really need to switch them.. TBH, in singles I don't think any of them will beat ALG, but I think atleast for the doubles (if needed) Patty will play with Vogele and not with Timea (I don't think Patty and Timea have ever played together before. With Steffi she played last year)

Btw, am I the only one who thinking that if Patty loses tomorrow to Lisicki so this tie is over?

Some really nice pictures from this match, you can see them in mine and Neta's posts as well as on yahoo there are a few others including some of Bacsinszky. She is up first tomorrow, probably the most important rubber of this tie. The only chance Switzerland has at winning is if she wins this match - no pressure Patty!

I'm really sad they lost. I hope they'll have a nice draw in the playoffs and they'll be back to the WG II.
To bad Timea was out of shape, ALG was pretty much fresh in the doubles I guess

Sorry about the pessimism, but disastrous draw in Paris GDF:
(1)Serena Williams v Iveta Benesova
Petra Kvitova v Q
Q v Nicole Vaidisova
Kaia Kanepi v (7)Anabel Medina Garrigues

(3)Elena Dementieva v Ai Sugiyama
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova v (wc)Virgine Razzano
Sorana Cirstea v (wc)Nathalie Dechy
Alona Bondarenko v (6)Patty Schnyder

(8)Amelie Mauresmo v Sara Errani
Timea Bacsinszky v Monica Niculescu
Alisa Kleybanova v Tsvetana Pironkova
(4)Agnieszka Radwanska v Q

(5)Alize Cornet v Q
Ekaterina Makarova v (wc)Daniela Hantuchova
Agnes Szavay v Li Na
Francesca Schiavone v (2/wc)Jelena Jankovic

First round Bondarenko who is apparently not a good matchup to her, and unless Alona will be tierd from FC (I doubt) Patty has a good chance of losing it.. Then Cirstea who Patty has also lost to :help: and then Dementieva..
Isn't that great?

Good luck, do your best.!!!!

I don't know.. If Dokic will preform well like she did in AO, she'll be very tough to beat, Patty can beat her if she'll be in good shape, about Timea, I doubt.. And Patty+Dellacqua= choke. I really want them to prove me wrong though

Görges is a very strange choice but she has never been very serious about doubles so probably just some extra court time since she isn't getting it in singles these days. If nothing else she should remember that she beat Bondarenko on grass so anything is possible.

Keadz
Feb 11th, 2009, 09:56 AM
What surface will the tie be played on?

The Australian team should be smart enough to put the tie on grass considering how the girls are all pretty decent on the surface and Patty is:help:

Really pissed off that they have to play Aus though. If the tie is anywhere near Melbourne I will go down and cheer for Patty(in singles)...but I will want Aus to win the tie:p

Anyway, good luck to Patty agaisnt Alona. Hopefully she can take some confidence from her doubles victory agaisnt the Italian girls and start showing some of that form in singles.
