Did anyone seriously think Justine was going to play here? There was no benefit at all for her to play and there was no way she was going to take just a week off after a physically and emotionally draining US Open.

Just the WTA up to their old tricks again, when will they announce the withdrawl?

Beijing is mandatory in 2 years, there are going to be a lot of players there that really don't want to be there.

The WTA really consulted the players with 2009 Roadmap. Pigs will fly when the WTA care about the players.

Davenport has an excellent chance to do well this week and then next week at the China Open. I'm hoping that Lindsay or Szavay can win the title.

Is that the weakest tier II ever? :tape: And the sad thing is Na and Jie won't be able to take advantage of it cause of injuries :help:

Exactly! I'd love to see a Davenport-Hingis SF or something
(Both of them could use the ranking point - especially Hingis :tape:)

She withdrew today.

Didn't make a lot of sense for Justine to play Beijing if not played at Olympic venue. I hope Ame' shows up and gets her game on track.

Not really.

Momo, Martina, Davenport, Lena...not currently in the top 10 (though that is where they have all spent the majority of their careers) but it still makes for an exciting tournament and the 1st 3 players have 9 Singles GS's between them....hardly weak and if I were in Beijing right now I would be VERY excited about this tournament.

Juju is smart for not playing in Beijing. It saves her from devloping asthma, whooping cough, and all the other diseases related to the bad air conditions there. Please clean yourself up, Beijing!

I highly doubt that staying in Beijing for 1 week will result in sudden death.

It actually is a good point though as JuJu has some breathing problems.
Maybe they should give the players complimentary oxygen.

Justine Cancels Beijing Visit
12/09/2007:
http://www.justine-henin.be/public/newspics/pic2030.jpgIt's been an enormous North American tour this fortnight with the climax at the US OPEN in New York. The reactions from supporters and fans were incredible and Justine says thank you for the great messages posted in her guestbook.

Justine has been suffering for a few months now with respiratory problems and diagnosed with chronic asthma. During the US OPEN she again had breathing problems. After a medical examination in Belgium upon return Justine has been advised by her physicians to recover and rest. She will not be able to visit and play the China Open in Beijing which begins next week.

When Justine is again given the greenlight by her doctors, she will gradually train in Monaco. If all goes well her revised tour schedule will be Filderstadt, Zurich and Madrid.

Oh well, it's for the better.... see you again Juju in 2-3 weeks time ;)
