Here are my eagerly awaited reports from Flushing

Chala vs. Gullickson

This was the first match I saw of the day and I walked in right at the beginning of the second set. I was surprised at how small and slight Cindy was although she appeared in great shape. The scoreline doesn't serve the match justice because it was a lot closer than what it seemed. Chala was so consiste and she must've hit, at the most, 5 unforced errors in the second set. That said, she wasn't a pusher; she has a solid and flashy game that kept Chelsey on her heels. Chelsey has a good game as well and definitely has the potential to go pro (at least more than her sister :o). However, Cindy provoked her into way too many unforced errors and she couldn't seem to stay in a rally that lasted more than 5 shots. I'm not sure if Cindy is big and/or strong enough to succeed in the pro's. She has no weakness but lacks power. She's a talented girl with every shot in the book but she needs a true weapon.

Kalashnikova vs. Zsilinszka

Oksana is a big girl with a big game, not to mention left handed. She was punishing the ball with a ton of force and was simply too strong for Moonball Reka. Reka is a decent player but always sent a moonball up if the point got tight. That fearful kind of play won't get her anywhere in the pro's; she needs to hit regular groundies which she is capable of doing. She also as a bad and unlikeable attitude. I think collegiate play is a wise choice for her, while Kalashnikova has a strong future. (Keep in mind I wrote these the day after I left, and Oksana reaching the semifinals here did not surprise me. )

Brengle vs. Moore

Very close first set between two players that should not have met so early on in the tournament. Moore was up an early break in the first set but Brengle got it back. Both girls aren't huge hitters but both have well-rounded games. Brengle had her chance at the first set with Jessica serving 4-4 15-40 but Madison missed a short ball just asking to be punished. From there on it seemed her spirits were crushed and though I didn't stay I figured she was worn out by the second set, losing rather easily. Thinking back I don't remember anything particulary special about Moore's game except her fighting spirit. She seemed to want the win a lot more than Madison and fought hard to get it. She had a good forehand and serve but nothing stuck out, but she certainly deserved the win over a top 3 player. Both girls need to develop a weapon as the transcend into the pro's.

Oudin vs. Vogt

Melanie is one of the younger Americans and definitely one of the more impressive ones. She's small but she's quick and can really crank her forehand. Vogt was a solid player, no weapon or weakness, but she could afford to get fitter. Oudin broke Vogt's serve both times at 5-4 to win the sets by being a bigger fighter than her opponent who rarely showed any emotions. Agnes Szavay watched the second set in support of Stephanie but Oudin was the better player. She shows her emotions a lot and at one point yelled at herself, "What the heck are you doing! :banghead:" in the such a cute, angry, girly way.

Random Notes:
I saw Mallory Cecil and Michelle Larcher de Brito practice. Mallory is a hottie, and I'm 17 so I'm allowe to say such things . Michelle's grunts weren't what I expected but they did make me chuckle. Her and Cecil should have won their doubles match but didn't. They're both good players. Natassya Burnett is a fierce competitor. I saw her play a few points and she is always pumping herself up, she has a nice game. This Korean girl named Han impressed me when I saw her play doubles with Hofmanova. I think she will definitely be one of Asia's next best players and certainaly the best from Korea. Hofmanova is a good player but I don't know how she won the Orange Bowl last year. She was out of this tournament before I got here

Hercog vs. Cohen

I had to see this match for the hell of it :tape: You would think Julia was ranked #1 the way she acted, as if her being upset would be the shock of the century, throwing her racket etc. Polona is a big girl, very tall and has a big game. I think she has the tools to be a good pro. Cohen isn't a bad player, but she should have never been ranked so high in juniors like she was, more like 30. Collegiate tennis would serve Julia well...

Tabakova vs. Weinhold

I was surprised Romana lost this match because she striked me as the more talented player. She's very tall and easy on the eyes. She's already sponsored by Lacoste and I supsect she'll receive a lot more attention in the future. She has a big serve, firing 3 aces in one game including one on a second serve. Compared to most of the juniors, I think she has the best second serve, with lots of pace and certainly not a weakness. Weinhold had a nice slice backhand but that was all she ever hit it seemed. She was playing good defense, drawing out the UE's on Romana, and just making her hit the extra ball. She was in Tabakova's head who yelled at her coaches during bad times in the match.

Konta vs. Moore

Johanna fought off the other Aussie Moore named Tara. I was really impressed by Konta in terms of game and overall demeanor. She was very courteous and gave smiles to the ball boys everytime she needed a ball to serve. She didn't lose her tempor or throw her racket through the stressful match. The same cannot be said about Tara :o That being said Johanna is a big fighter , giving it her all on every point and wanting to win badly, more than Tara. Tara isn't fit enough and is too inconsistent. She also was was too negative on herself and let chances to get back in the match slip away. I'm not sure how far Konta can go in the pro's but she has a nice game and a lovely attitude on and off the court. I wish her all the best!

Curtis/Jones vs. Bua/Gordo

I'm a Jade and Sacha fan so I needed to see this! The match was very close with only 4 breaks the whole match. Bua and Gordo were a good team, leaving me with the impression they play together frequently. They outclassed Curtis and Jones in the first, but Sacha and Jade found their footing in the next two sets. Bua and Gordo were better as a team but overall Sacha and Jade were better players and managed to win a very close match that surprisingly gathered numerous fans. Bua hit Gordo three times in the match and made her cry once. :help:

Hercog vs. Kucova

Barely saw any of the match, only the last few games of the second set. Kucova hits with two hands on both sides. I was hardly impressed with her shots which landed in the middle of the court with little pace, but I guess she found her groove because she romped Hercog in the third, and to my astonishment won the whole tournament. :help: << that last part I just added in

Holland/Moore vs. Doi/Nara

I was very happy I got to see Izzy play and I was impressed with her game. She is a great sport and never stopped smiling even after losing. She should definitely be ranked in the Top 50 of juniors or higher. Her and Tara got a good start winning that first set but the Japanese girls were a good doubles team. Some of ther strategies were pretty risky in terms of sportsmanship. They tried to hit (and accomplished a few times) the other team, mainly Tara. I reacall at least 3 or 4 times going right at her. She called them bitches rather loudly at one point :tape: Doi/Nara were in complete control sets 2 and 3.

Curtis vs. Jurikova

Jade has turned into a more complete player and she showed off her arsenal of weapons to dismiss her opponent. She's a little girl but she's got big game. She was hitting with a lot of pace and is a true joy to watch.

Piter vs. Riske

Only saw a little bit of this match but I got the feeling Piter was just too much to ask for Allison. Riske is so nice and had a smile on her face even after losing, taking pictures, signing autographs, and talking to a lot of different people. She is so polite and you can't help but love her. :awww: Piter looked like she was in stellar shape and is a very pretty girl.

Vandeweghe/Will vs. Buchina/Chernaykova

Coco and Allie were a great team! I was very impressed with Coco's serve and feel at net, while Alli knocked off some tough overheads. I'm not sure who was who between the 2 Russians :o but one had an awful attitude. Coco and Allie were all smiles as the cruised to victory.

Glushko vs. Konta

There is no denying that Julia is a talented girl but she is a serious B-I-T-C-H!:o She yells and screams, and always seems agitated. She had very little patience, particularly with the ball boys. Johanna gave it a mighty effort but after a close first set she seemed to fade as Julia went for her shots and put her away soundly in the second.

and the best for last!

Pervak vs. Jones :worship:

Amazing match, just awesome! Myself and the crowd were left flabbergasted at some of the rallies these two pulled off. Pervak is a bit questionable though. There were two older men, who I believe were her coaches, both smoking (Flushing Meadows is non-smoking). I got a Damir Dokic vibe from them  Another man came into the stands to watch and began yelling so loud in Russian and clapping incessantly, definite overdose EXTREMELY ANNOYING. But when Sacha won points after he did that, the rest of the crowd raised her level for her :bounce: First off, this match was during the hottest part of the day and the Sun was beaming. I had never seen Pervak play and I was very impressed. Despite being a small girl, she's extremely powerful. She's left-handed and hits both her forehand and backhand VERY hard. She's also very fast and can play great defense. Her serve isn't bad either, so she's she pretty much got a full arsenal of weapons and no weakness. Sacha's best shot is her forehand and was able to blast that shot throughout the match. She owns every shot as well, moves well, and is technically sound. I cannot see how it would be possible for Pervak to be off her game that day because she was striking the ball so hard and rarely missed. She bashed the ball, no doubt, but she also mixed it up with clever slices, dropshots, and lobs. Sacha played with amazing courageand was up in every set despite Pervak playing extremely well and making Jones earn every point. Pervak struggled with the heat and called for the trainer a few times, getting ice bags. I wouldn't say it afffected her play at all until the last few games. She cramped a little at the end and laid on the court for a couple of minutes but raced around the baseline the very next point. Her mind suffered most from the heat, as she made more unforced errors at the end than any other part of the match. Sacha got a few bad calls and at one dropped the F*** but after the intense heat, a 3 hour match, a Russian heckler, and Pervak's injurty TO's at inconvienent times early on; she's bound to vent some stress. I think both girls have serious talent and played the best match I've ever seen live. FANTASTIC quality! I'm just sad to see that Sacha lost to Kalashnikova in the quarters.

Well that's all, I hope you enjoyed and got to read about some of your favs! :wavey:

I also have lots of pictures so just ask for a certain player. I'll try to upload the albums soon :)
