Well, it's not quite cast in stone, but close.
Sandrine retired. She was #11.

Martina just pulled out of the summer, and her
agent said she won't submit an entry for the US Open.
That's 618 points she won't defend, leaving her with 2196.
That makes her #10.

Hantuchova is currently #11, with Sandrine gone.

Hantuchova's 4 worst events are worth 108 points total.

01 5742 Serena Williams
02 4917 Venus Williams
03 3947 Jennifer Capriati
04 3906 Monica Seles
05 3168 Kim Clijsters
06 3076 Jelena Dokic
07 3005 Justine Henin
08 2637 Lindsay Davenport
09 2285 Amelie Mauresmo - Has points to lose, but she'll be defending them.

10 2196 = 2814 - 0618 Martina Hingis

11 1843 = 1951 - 0108 Daniela Hantuchova
12 1685 = 1685 - 0000 Silvia Farina Elia
13 1447 = 1711 - 0264 Elena Dementieva

In practice, that means Dani has to earn about 350 points by the end of the USOpen to make #10.
Not at all difficult. so barring injury, Hantuchova will be top ten by the end of the US Open.

Despite loving her sooo much, I hope Sandrine requests to be taken off the rankings. The whole Tauziat thing was a bind.

Daniela is #80 on the all time list to get there when she does.

Last yr saw 4 debutants in the Top 10

Daniela probably would've gotten there anyway, without Hingis' withdrawal or Testud's retirement. But congratulations to her...quite an accomplishment.

Question: Daniela had to qualify for the Sydney event this year [and as a result, has had that nagging ".75" on her ranking total all year beacuse of that ]...are there any other players who have gone from qualifying to the Top 10 in less than a year's time?

Indy,

what about Serena. Didn't she go from the 300s to the top ten in a year?

Wow, that's awesome. That Natalie hanging in the rankings was a pain. Isn't she still in the 20's or 30's. I hope Sandrine requests it to be removed. What a great way to end your career ranked at #10 instead of retiring and watching your points and rankings go down week after week!
