Alphen aan den Rijn (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d2/Nl-Alphen_aan_den_Rijn.ogg) (population: 70,927 in 2006) is a town and municipality in the western Netherlands (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netherlands), in the province of South Holland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Holland), between Leiden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leiden) and Utrecht (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utrecht_%28city%29). The town is situated on the banks of the river Oude Rijn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oude_Rijn_%28Utrecht_and_South_Holland%29) (Old Rhine), where the river Gouwe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gouwe_%28river%29) branches off. The municipality covers an area of 57.68 km² (22.27 mile²) of which 2.61 km² (1.01 mile²) is water. It also contains the remnants of a Roman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Rome)castellum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castellum).
The municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn also includes the communities of Aarlanderveen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aarlanderveen) and Zwammerdam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zwammerdam). The town is located in what is called the 'Green Heart' of the Netherlands, which is a somewhat less densely populated center area of the Randstad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randstad).
The name "Alphen" is probably derived from the name of the Roman castellum Albanianae, meaning "settlement at the white water".

You have to specify which round you choose though, since you only have two choices for qualifying. In this case it can only be round 2 however, as there are only two rounds and de Groot has a bye in the first.

I saw them in Vlaardingen and they were having a lot of fun on court, even as they were losing  Lynch needs to shape up though; she's a bit too big. But then again, so are girls like Harmsen and Reinhard.

it's a nice tournament, i was there last year about 4-5 days with Caroline maes and Leslie Butkiewicz, everybody is really disapointed that it's no longer a $25.000 for women.

there was every day a big croud, lot of club members, the hospitality was good, with hostfamilies and a nice hotel with a good shutlle service.

Erakovic played her way to the final without anyone noticing her, not many players had heard of her until the final weekend together with her opponent, Petkovic (who won the year before when it still was a $10.000).
they both didn't have a really claygame, they both hit hard and deep with lots of errors but also super points.
i still have some pics of the final, if you want some let me know

today was not such a spectacular day in Alphen, the match baudouin-van worcum wasn't worth watching, my doubles partner plays better, grela played well and won, melzani was injured en didn't know she was LL because she even didn't subscrive on the list and gave WO, reinhard played a strong match, Vongsouthi lost again early in a tournament, Olga won with great confidence.

Just got back from Alphen. I saw all the singles matches today (partly).

The Josanne - Chayenne match was over in a blink.. Josanne just didn't got a chance against a strong Ewijk.

Lablans - Harmsen was actually a really close match. Especially the first set. The tiebreaker was expected and it kept going and going. Lablans had the better game in the TB, she just missed an amount of luck. Claire had SP's on 6-5 7-6 and 9-8. Danielle didn't convert her first one at 7-8 but at 9-8 she made three points in a row. Danielle took her second SP and it was a shocker. Danielle served and it was a netball, so Claire let the ball go. On the contrary, the umpire thought the serve was good, so he gave the point (and the set ) to Danielle.

As you would expect, Claire went totally furious with the umpire. She left the court in rage and tears, whispering at the last moment "i'm going to the toilet" to prevent herself from being disqualified. After 5/10 minutes she probably got herself together and played on, but the match already was lost.

Then, the third match between Renee and Heidi. I would have guessed it was going to be close, but was I wrong there. Renee had an excellent game, with a lot of winners. She served greatly so Heidi just couldn't break her.

The last match, Haberkorn-Kalyuzhnaya, I didn't see very much of that one. But the games were long and the match seemed to take hours (and it did ;)) It could have fallen both ways but in the end Haberkorn had the most left

Harmsen is like a really good club player  She won't have a big career, IMO.

Haberkorn's volleys rivalled Schäfer's. And that's not a positive thing :haha:

I already thought Arantxa would be too good for Chayenne..
But great final between 2 talents, hope you can win it Renee! :D

Renee and Arantxa were much too good for their opponents. Harmsen and Reinhard won doubles final 6-2, 6-4 against Anderson/Pooler, in both sets they went up 4-0 in about 10-15 minutes.
