IMHO Anable should play BOTH the singles matches. Anable won in Madrid on CLAY! :D

Connelly/Gonzalez in doubles?

I would not have Regla play singles but we are at home on clay and clay is regla's best surface :)

So again:

Singles 1: Regla Torres
Singles 2: Anabel Conde-Martinez (please don't pull out!) :)
Doubles: Candela Sanchez-Connelly/Adriana Gonzalez

anabel

We are four players and there are five matches, I think the best thing will be Anabel, Candela, Regla and Adriana play a single match, don´t you think so?

I think it´s funny if all of us play a single match

Regla you are as smelly as you can not hold your own desitions right? Ok then hold this desition, I won't play Fed Cup.

Come On Spain! Good luck but without me, and maybe without Candela. We'll see...

Alberto

"If Spain is in the second round of the Fed Cup is by me, I was the star of the first round, and this time Regla Torres only want me playing in doubles with Adriana...so, I refuse playing Fed Cup"

Good Luck without Adriana and Candela

Monica_Rules, in Spain, there is not a team, there is only one person who decide all :(

Becool

alberto... The higher seed is the capitain and she actually decides everything on the team.. You should know that

Sam L

Candela & Adriana - I asked you if you wanted to play in the ORIGINAL thread that was on like 2 weeks ago! You didn't say anything!

Anyway, I used facts to decide who should play. Anabel won a tournament on CLAY in Madrid. She's #2 in Spain.

Regla won tournaments on CLAY in Hamburg and Berlin. She's #1 in Spain.

If you have a valid reason as to why Candela or Adriana should play on CLAY then tell me!

I decided Candela should play against Canada because that was on hardcourts and she just reached the Indian Wells finals at that time.

IF we get to the finals and say we play on GRASS Regla wouldn't even play at all, OK? I just thought my decisions would be the best for the team. But of you have other suggestions you're free to come up with them I'm not stopping you. But for now we're sticking by this, cause none of you came up with anything else.

And thank god Vicario/Ruiz can play in doubles :)

Regla Torres had to this say during a press conference: "I'll tell you one thing if Spain loses this round, you know who to blame it on. I've tried my best for this team from day 1, it's a shame there are trouble makers who doesn't want to cooperate."

Alberto
Jul 14th, 2002, 12:11 PM
Pfff Never mind if you are having a bad clay season to play Fed Cup, because we are always changing points and if you win tournaments is because that week you are lucky...

These are not real player Sam, all depend about the points we send Alx, so don´t say stupid things

Anabel Conde commentts about Spanish team

"Firstable i wanna say that i will be able to play. It's just a shame what Adriana & Candela have made. Im 100% with Regal decision. In the last Fed Cup tied i was not chosen because my ranking and my hard court results were lower than the other players, so i accpeted it. But now Regla and me are the best 2 spaniards and we both have won 2 tournaments and on clay this season. I won Madrid & Vienn and i reached semis in Berlin. I was a top 5 player in this year clay season so i think its logical me playing both singles matches. After all, we want the team to win. Now i am glad Sandy and Lucia are in the team, because with Adriana and Candela i think that we will lose it, as their actitude is so negative"

Yak
Jul 14th, 2002, 01:28 PM
If Anabel won a tournament on clay, she gets like 3 extra points on that surface...

If Regla won two TIER 1 on clay, she gets like 10 extra points on that surface...

So it makes a difference between 109 pts or 116 pts instead of 106 pts like the players who hasn't win any tournament!

I'm Russian but I agree with Regla's decision

VSFan1 aka Joshua L.
Jul 14th, 2002, 02:36 PM
Yes, same reason Africa chose hardcourt.

Usually, all Africans have most points on clay....but we play against Britain with Ferrer who has 145 points on clay.

So hardcourt is a better decision.

Monica_Rules
Jul 14th, 2002, 03:36 PM
145 points:eek:

Still hoping GBR can win on hardcourts though!

Sonf@
Jul 14th, 2002, 06:59 PM
Oh really? What about when Adriana won Canberra? Why she was not chosen to the team? In fact she had more points in hard than any other Spanish player...

anabel
Jul 14th, 2002, 07:33 PM
Anabel splits Conde/Gonzalez team

Anabel Conde Martinez has decided to split her successfull team with Adriana Gonzalez after Gonzalez's actitude about the Fed Cup.

"I was not expecting such a stupid actitude. I thought she was more mature. She and Candela are making a bad atmosphere around the spanish players which i do not like. Regla and me are the best chance for Spain to beat Belgium, they should understand that".

Now Anabel has to look for a new doubles partner. She has had 2 seriously partners in her career, Gianna Dulko & Adriana Gonzalez.

Syria: "Okay, then she doesn't know how to separate the personal aspects and the professionals ones right? I know she does not have to do anything with the argue but I dont want to have anything in common with the conde family so I will play since now with my sister in the tournaments we play together and with Berta Calpena in the junior ones.'

I didn't even know Adriana won Canberra until NOW! If you had told me BEFORE the tie against Canada, maybe you would've got Regla's place in the singles!

Anyway I'm over this argument, thanks Anabel for standing up to my decision and understanding for it, and thanks to Sandy and Lucia for playing doubles. We're a team so let's act like one! :)

So what a captain, you should have checked all the Spanish players results. In fact, Adriana got final in Auckland, Title in Canberra, third round at Oz OPen and quarters at Tokio I think (maybe also quarters at Antwerp)
