<font face="Arial Black" color="#99CC00" size="5">Schett joins the field in Key Biscayne</font>

German's Barbara Schett was the last one to arrive in Key Biscayne, FL, USA, on the Lufthansa 8888 flight which left from Munich and arrived in Miami earlier today. Barbara Schett was born in Austria but last week she switched to Germany due to personal reasons.

Schett's last tournament was the Wimbledon Championships where she lost in the 2nd round against 2nd seed Saori Obata on a three-setter.

On a fast interview at the VIP Lounge of the Miami's International Airport, Schett stated:<br />"I'm very excited to debut here. Miami is an amazing city! I love Miami Beach, specially the Ocean Drive atmosphere. It's cool!"

"As for the tournament, I want to do well here and I think I have a great chance. I was playing very well at Wimbledon, but then I faced Saori right on the second round and even though I played well, she was superior to me and won. Here I will face Francesca Schiavone in the first round and I think we can make a very tough match. I've improved my self-esteem on court and I definitely feel better playing. I think this is the main thing on tennis."

<font face="Arial Black" size="5" color="orange">Schett upsets 4th seed Schnyder</font>

Germany's Barbara Schett became after player with her improved confidence. She made one more victim in Miami, this time, the 4th seed of the draw, Patty Schnyder, who couldn't keep up with Schett's pace and power.

In the first set, Patty Schnyder looked lost on the court and a break of serve right on the first game and another in the fifth game were enough for a win. Schett hit three aces and five service winners.

Later, on second set, Schnyder found her tactical plan and upset Schett with balls very close to the line and many unforced errors from the German. The swiss, later, bageled Schett who committed 14 unforced errors and four double faults.

On final set, Schett came back to her good form and confidence, hitting winner by winner, smart approaches and well-placed serves. With 5-3 40-15, a net backhand by Schnyder gave Schett the victory, and a place in the quarterfinals of the Ericsson Open.

"I'm very happy that I won here! Specially this match, against a seed. Patty is a great competitor but today she wasn't playing very well. I could impose my game and win. I'm just really glad and excited! Way to the next match <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0"> !"

Barbara Schett will face Dinara Safina from Russia in the quarterfinals

Vento Struggles but Advances over doubles partner!

http://www.igs.net/~bmitchell/Tennis/Vento/vento025.jpg

Top Seeded Maria Vento came back from a 0-3 0-40 down on her serve to win 12 of the next 14 games, against up and coming and doubles partner plus a good friend Alexandra Stevensson.<br />Vento quoted "It was hard match to be part of when you are playing aginst a close friend is very tough its kind you are pulling for eachother, but i think we had a great match, the score does not says that much cause a lot of games went to deuce and she served a lot of aces especially at the start i hope we can put it together for the doubles and win it all"
