Lower ranked players can only have the chance to outplay the top players in the first round.

Some top players are likely to be out in the first round, perhaps they're not warmed up fully.

Examples:

Sharapova - 2007 Australian Open 1st round 6-3, 4-6, 9-7

Venus Williams - 2007 Wimbledon 1st round 2-6, 6-3, 7-5

Serena Williams - 2007 French Open 1st round 5-7, 6-1, 6-1

Justine even lost to Eleni Daniilidou in 2005 Wimbledon first round 7-6(8), 2-6, 7-5

the exception being they get a really trickt 1rd opponent, but generally 1st rounds opponents for the top players are really easy

That's right. And i think that is the reason, why sometimes top players lose in first round, maybe they don't expect a hard fight.

Because they underestimate their1r opponents sometimes.

masha and williamses might have trouble, cause they haven't played in some time and their injuries mean less practise

Venus lost to Pironkova last year at the AO in the first round. Petrova was also a heavy favorite going into Roland Garros 2006 and was crushed in the first round.

I agree with Dexter. I believe that many top players definitely underestimate their opponents.

I agreed that most top players underestimate their opponents in the first round.

They are also not that used to the courts since the qualifiers are.
