:worship: Tanya!!

Tanya was down through so much of this match:

0-6 1-3
0-6 3-5
0-6 4-5 15-40 (2 MPs)

and from MPs down she just turned it around and dominated! So many close games though! So proud of you Tati

not a BLUE FLAG

Zi Yan is in trouble too.

Who would have thought #1 and #2 seeds, both in the 70s in world ranking, might both fall in Q Round 1. :help: :help: :help:

Yes :)

It makes no sense to put a cut-off deadline for the Us Open before they've even had any tournaments on American hard courts ... Or Wimbledon before the only 2 grass court tournametns of the year.

I feel so bad for Lilia! She must be so disappointed. After her great summer.

I was just on the grounds a few hours ago and Lilia was looking so dominant. Bounce in her step. Tatiana wasn't even moving to some of Lilia's winners and she looked completely out of it after the first set. I left when Osterloh was up a break and in command in the 2nd - WTF happened? Oh lord.

Great win for Tatiana! Yay!

Always remember her from the Mixed Doubles final in 2004 (?) - when instead of curtesying to the Duke who gave her the runner-up trophy, she went to give him a kiss on the cheek! LOL!

Awful result for Lilia. Frankly this pretty much vindicates/justifies the decision to put her in qualifying and not give her a wildcard because if she did *this* against someone outside the top 150 I shudder to think what she would have done in the main draw.

Why should the cut-off be changed? You have 52 weeks to determine your ranking, meaning you still take into account last year's hardcourt points by the time the entry list comes around. They need time to organize, allow for withdrawals, etc...You can't just throw in an entry list 2 weeks before the tournament starts, not gonna work :p The positive for Lilia is that now if she can continue to score some points during the rest of this year, and have a decent enough start to next year, she should be in a good position to be inside the top 100 and gain direct entry into grand slams next year.

Surely she'll be disappointed to have let this one slip after being a set and a break up, but unfortunately she just hasn't been able to raise the bar mentally at the grand slams for a long time. I know she was probably feeling a little bit down by the fact she was playing qualies to begin with, but to be up 6-0 and a break in the second suggests to me that she was still up to it and ready to go. Lilia needs to prove to herself that she can finish these matches off at this standard of event, because until she does I can't see the USTA considering many WC's for her whether fans think she's 'deserving' or not.

Better luck this fall Lilia :)

And congrats to Tatiana for hanging in there, nice to see her scoring a few more wins again lately :)

I saw just about this entire match. Lilia was freakishly fired up for the first two sets. She was saying "come on" after almost every point (win or lose), slapping her thigh, screaming at the umpire, giving herself instructions like "move!" and "hit it!" I'd never seen her like that before. She lost a bit of focus midway through the second, though, and Perebiynis caught fire. Little bit of luck involved, too -- on the second match point, at 5-4 in the second, Tatiana got a ball to dribble over the net cord for a winner.

Osterloh never really recovered from blowing the second set. As you might imagine, she looked pretty devastated at the end. Her coach had his arm around her as they walked back to the locker room. Sad way for her to go out, but a pretty amazing comeback from Perebiynis, especially considering the way she got blitzed in the first set.
