Why so? Ana is a 2007 Slam finalist and Venus a 2007 Slam winner.
Serena and Justine-s quarter has two 2007 Slam winners plus a 2007 Slam finalist in Bartoli.

I'd say 2nd.

Justine Serena > Ana Jelena Venus

Second. Based on the highest seeds you have 3, 5, 12. That's pretty steep.

You can't just look at slam final appearances and wins. That seems a little short sighted to me. Look overall and I think it's pretty friggin clear. Jankovic, Dementieva, Venus and Ivanovic is a lot tougher than Henin and Serena. I agree the top quarter is tough, just not as tough as the second quarter.

I can't really choose between the first or second quarter to be honest. Both sections are jammed with great players who are or can be dangerous out of no where.

crap...
the only thing you could wish for is..
for Serena to be healthy/injury free enought to
play the next round so that she wont have to retire...

and on current form...
Venus/Jelena/Ana has played way lot more
matches this Summer, and are healthier
than Serena/Justine

2nd quarter narrowly over the 1st quarter. If Serena was healthy it would have been the other way around.

2nd but only slightly over the 1st. 2 former US Open champs in the 1st, but 1 in the 2nd and 2 darkhorse contenders.

A tough one. I voted for the 2nd.

1st quarter has two legends, and a bunch of challengers - Safina, Golovin, Bartoli, Safarova

2nd quarter has one legend, a two time GS finalist, and two potential multiple GS winners

3rd quarter has an off-form legend, a one-time GS winner, and two dangerous but wishywashy players.

4th quarter has a future hall-of-famer, a confident rising star, a not-so-in-form rising star, and a wiley but mentally shaky veteran.

you decide. ;)

I like Masha very much, but it is unfair that she always gets the easiest draws... Schnyder, Chakvetadze... what a contenders... total shockers!

The third quarter is embarassingly weak. If Hingis doesn't win any matches I'll be disappointed...
If she was healthy and didn't WIN this quarter, I'd be disappointed. :tape:

She could just as easily have gotten Sveta's draw.

And Justine's draw becomes extremely weak if Serena doesn't play....

Has to be Jelena, Ana, Elena and Venus.

You have the two most improved players on tour right now (Ana, Jelena); plus a former finalist and two times semi-finalist (Elena) and a former winner/Wimbledon Champion (Venus). That is really tough.

What has Dementieva done this year to be considered over Bartoli or Golovin?
How well players have done in Slams shows us how they cope with pressure on the big stage. We all know Jankovic does not do too well. If this weren-t a Slam, the 2nd quarter would be stronger.

Second quarter.
And how come Marion the #10 seed isn't one of the contenders in your list in the first quarter?

The second is toughest one, but I believe the champion will come from the 1st quarter.

Why Sharapova? You'd rather Kuznetsova get there? Doesnt she have an even easier draw? Personally I hope Martina can make some magic happen and pull through. Go Martina!
