But isn't she high on the list because of her Wimbledon win? Without it she would move down in all of the lists.

That's because prior to Wimbeldon she had a 21-6 record (including Fed Cup) winning 1 tier III title and having an 0-4 record against top 10 players. In the points she got 1000 for winning Wimbledon, you can see how much lower that was without. If you took out her Wimbledon win she'd be 7th on the win/loss, joint 13th on tournaments won, joint 14th on top 10 wins and absent from the top 20 in both forms of the rankings. Good for her that she won Wimbledon, fair play... :worship:, but by her very high standards she was not having anything resembling even a "decent" year prior to Wimbledon with the results, performances and who she was losing to and consequently if you took the stats from after Eastbourne it would be a very different picture.

I know, it's such a weird thing to bring up, I really don't get it. It's like 2005, was Venus having a good year prior to Wimbledon? No. Does anyone care now? No and if they do it's only to point out how even *more* impressive winning Wimbledon was. Same will happen this year. Does it change the fact she wasn't doing well before? No. Does it mean people are now "wrong" and that Venus prior to Wimbledon actually was having a good year? No. Does it make any difference now? No. Does she care she wasn't doing well and then won Wimbledon? No.

You could do the same for most of the people on that list - was Ivanovic having a great year prior to Berlin, Dani prior to Indian Wells, etc., etc. They achieved and we should celebrate that, but not re-write history in the process.

True....however, she was still top 10 on some of the list without it. PLUS she was missing the AO GS and the only other GS there was...was the french her worst surface.... I say pretty good results on clay since its her worst surface...

For a lot of players they would be pretty good. It's like people saying Sharapova had had a "horrible" year prior to San Diego - her worst result all year is last 16. It comes down to each individual's standards. 2003 Venus played 1 warm up on clay and got to the final of it, 2004 she won 2 clay events and had to have a walkover for the final of another, 2005 she won a Tier III, 2006 she was 10-3 on clay. This year she was 12-5 with a semi the best result, even on her worst surface that's un-Venus-like. I mean, Hantuchova had similar results on clay (also her worst surface - 8-4 this year) and for her that is "pretty good", but she's not Venus Williams who has been doing better than that every year.
