Shocking news! Schett moves
to Germany!

Barbara Schett, 25 years old, Austria's #1 tennis player, stated today on Wimbledon's Press Conference she would change her nationality after the Grand Slam tournament.

"Tennis in Germany is so much developed than in Austria. There are only two tournaments
a year in Austria, while there are nine or more in Germany. Austria's tennis directors never do anything to improve our tennis. Besides, I was already planning to build a house in Filderstadt, which is a calm city, with 4 tennis courts (red clay, rebound ace, Decoturf and grass) so I can always practice there. German is my second language, so I won't have much trouble to get used to it"

Schett also complained about Fed Cup in Austria, since she is the only Top 50 from there, and the other players are on a lower lever than hers. She declared that she would be delighted to represent Germany on FED CUP next year

INTERVIEW WITH BARBARA SCHETT:
Schett def. Lucic - 7-6(9), 7-5

Moderator: Questions please

Q: Barbara, you overcame a shaky start in a very triumphant way. What happenned?
B: I needed some time to get my rhythm, but then I felt really comfortable and the crowd was behind me. She broke my serve twice, and she opened a 5-2 lead. Then I woke up.

Q: The crowd was very supportive with you today, but some people say it's only for your attractive looks
B: It's great if people are supportive and cheer for me. Why they cheer, I don't think about, it's just nice that they are behind me.

Q: What's your favourite surface? Do you feel many difficulties to play on grass?
B: My favourite surface is the Rebound Ace. Well, playing on grass is very different from the other surfaces because there are so many erratic bounces and you have to be very focused to adjust to them. It's the surface I like least, I have to say.

Q: You recently moved to German, alleging lack of support in Austrian tennis. What are your plans in Germany?
B: I think Germany's Tennis Federation is so much interested than Austria's. They give full support for the players, and they invited me to join them, since I'm half-German and half-Austrian. Of course I accepted and I'm building my place in Filderstadt, with four tennis courts, so I can make my own practice there in this end of season.

Q: Did the call at 5-3 30-15 in the second set really bother you?
B: Yes! The ball was so wide. If the umpire hadn't overruled, it would have been match point for me. The bad thing on grass is that there isn't any mark, so you can't complain about the calls very much. But it happens, what can I do?

Q: Thanks Barbara and good luck
B: Thank you!

Schett's Grand Slam dream is over

The blond babe Barbara Schett has just been knocked out of The Wimbledon Championships, after her 5-7 6-3 3-6 defeat at Wimbledon's Centre Court to 2nd seed Saori Obata.

"When I defeated Jana, I felt I could really win here, because she won the title here in 1998, and this is definitely the surfaces that suits her game. Even I was shocked with my win."

"Against Saori, you have to take your chances. The pressure was all on her side, I just tried to play my game, but she was better than me. She runs a lot. You get desperate sometimes because she returns everything."

THE MATCH:
The match started will both players playing their best tennis, rewarding all the spectators who stayed overnight in the All England Lawn Tennis Club to get tickets for the Centre Court. Nobody had lost serve until the 6-5 30-all where Schett missed a lob handing Saori a set point, which she converted on a drop volley. First set Miss Saori 7-5.

In the second set, Schett came back from a 1-3 deficit to score 5 straight games and win the second set 6-3. The crowd was all on Schett, but we don't know if it was for her amazing backhand winners or for her small skirt

The match went to a third set'. Schett's shots didn't have the same oomph, unlike Saori, who didn't show any signal of fatigue. Obata broke Schett's serve in the 6th game, racing to a 4-2 lead and later closed the set 6-3, disappointing the crowd and the former-Austrian.

"There's a part of me that feels very proud of what I did out there today, it was one of the most beautiful tennis matches of this tournament. On the other hand, I feel very disappointed for myself, because I couldn't play my best on the three sets." *Schett sheds a tear*

ummm.. well firstly well done to saori and Ai for winning their semis!

its going to be very tough for the girls to do this!

reminds me of venus and serena in WTA US open final! Ai and Saori are practically sisters! they live together, travel together, have the same friends, were raised as friends, practice together, shop together, eat together... there isn't a thing they don't do together!

oh wait.. there is!

good luck Ai!
good luck Saori!

dear oh dear! ai vs saori! i didn't think that was going to happen! neither ai or saori will walk away happy after tomorrow afternoon! they aren't the real winners out of all this!

The real winner in this is Tennis in Japan!

After their fed cup victory tennis REALLY began to boom in japan! and now - just a couple of weeks later here they are - the 2 japanese stars in the final of wimbledon!

Japan have really asserted their dominance of the FWTA tour and especially so with the re-introduction of Kimiko Date! these guys have shown the world tennis is no longer all power! these guys don't have much power. but what they lack in power they more than make up in guts and determination!

so good luck Ai and also to Saori! hope youguys give it your best tomorrow!

ai wishes to congratulate saori on what turned out to be a thrilling encounter! ai is glad it went the distance and that the standard was extremely high, rarely seen in fwta history!

they gave it their all! they knew each others strengths and weaknesses inside out and they said before the match that they both have to forget their friendship for 2 hours ( it turned out to be 3 hours ). they did that and the result was a thrilling 3 set encounter!

once again well done to saori.. saori leads the head to head 2-0 after the first match went to a third set tiebreak! but at least saori has definitely regained her number one ranking again! ai will have shot up in the rankings again!

good luck ai in the ericsson and to saori in the masters cup!
