I remember that as of March 22, 2004, Henin had accumulated the highest point total (7626) in the history of the WTA rankings.
Great year for Justine from Charleston 2003 - Indian Wells 2004. 3 GS tiles (French Open, USOpen, AusOpen), and Wimbledon Semi, and a lot of tire I titles, Charleston, Berlin, San Diego, Toronto, Zurich, Indian Wells, and some other tiles, Dubai, or something?

I see most of you weren't posting on this board yet, back in 2004. So it's not something the whole board knows.

Anyone who's ever looked up Henin's bio on wikipedia would know it.

I agree, but it also seems like anything positive about Justine or anything where she makes history etc, certain fans bases on this board don't wanna know! :tape: :tape:

It seems most people prefer to be ignorant of Justine's achievements...

So you can only post questions in here? Whenever someone post a result of a match in here, it can also be found on the wtatour site.

She made history three years ago, yes. :weirdo: This was probably discussed in 2004 as another poster said, what is the point of bringing it up now?

Do quality points count.

No more threads about Graf, Seles etc. achievements allowed? I see these sometimes in here aswell.

Yes they did then... thats why its unlikely it'll be broken.

Do quality points count.

Back then they did..... yes those include quality points... in 2006 quality points were thrown out... Does anyone know why they did that? (was it because the top ten is a joke these days?)

Hantu515

That's completely pointless the ranking points are completely arbitrary and change i.e. we have a new rankings system this year

I don't know  ask the thread starter. I didn't start it did I?

BTW ... she's made history since 3 years ago. :)

Congrats!

Why not? What's the reason not to make these kind of threads? A player has achieved something that no other player will be able to do. Why not tell posters who didn't know about it?

Look, its an interesting thread to some people.

And LoveAndy is new to this board as well - probably one of their first threads.

Some people know it, some people dont, but dont blame the thread starter for trying to start an iniative thread.

But then again, looking at the negative comments on this thread and the peopl who posts them... i am quite surprise

Here are some points during her "dominant" period
from 2003 Charleston to 2004 Indian Wells

W/L = 80/8 dementieva,Clijstersx2(1-ret),Serena,Myskina,Sugiyama,Mauresmo,Kuznetsova
18 tournaments winning 11 titles
Win - 11 (3GS, 6 Tier1, 2 Teir2)
Final - 3
SF - 4
did not lose before the SF
did not lose a Tier-1 or higher event except Wimbledon & YEC

Nice, but it's not like she had one of the top years of all-time. We've seen better from Hingis, Serena, Seles, Graf,.. naming ones from 1990.

Great achievement though.

The crucial point was made by Hantu515. As the ranking points change and the calculation changes we don't know who has the highest score without rebasing all players all to the same basis and thats pretty impossible without knowing all the data to reassign points and quality points . I doubt if Justine could have more points than Steffi or Martina 1 at their best - Steffi had 4 GS wins and an olympics in her best year.

So she didn't win the two of the biggist titles ...

Did she win the grand slam? lose just 1 match?

In order for someone to break that number with this system, she have to win all four grand slams (4000), the YEC (750), and 7 Tier I's (3045) = 7,795.
AKA This won't be happening.

Jeez, relax people. Just because you don't like a fact, doesn't mean you have to try and discredit the messenger.

If you ignore the thread altogether, it'll go away and your eyes will no longer be offended by things you don't like reading.

What I don't understand is ... how can someone hate a fact? If in a sport something has been achieved that no one will ever be able to achieve again, how can one not respect it and be impressed by it? Why does someone hate it?

Whenever a player makes history, it always impresses me ... I don't hate that fact even if I'm not a fan of the player, I have to respect the achievement.

Strange what jealousy does if it's not their favourite player being mentioned :tape:

but this thread is just like saying: 'Serena had held all the grand slams at once!' or: 'Venus went on a long winnning streak which included Wimbledon and US Open!'

if someone posted those threads, they'd get bashed 8689798 times more

Different years different points. Hingis had a better year in 1997 to 1998.

But the fact that Serena won four in a row is mentioned in every third post by her fans so it's not like you could avoid knowing that little snippet.

I'm a big tennis fan and I didn't realise she held this particular record. I think it's worth a thread once in a while.
