Camille or martina. Remember at FO 1999 when she did those underarm serves? I heard one of them came in at 127.39999mph  0.00001mph behind venus

but seriously, venus is. i dont buy the sharapova bs for one bit. Ana has served at about 122-123 but doubt it will be ana, serena is a threat but apart from in the hantuchova match at wimbly, she wasnt exactly serving bombs at wimbly, Petrova's a big server but not in the speed league of the the williamses and BBB and I've never seen BBB serve apart from in the exhibition w/venus vs kournikova/serena so dno. But venus is the best bet to beat her MD Speed record and also Brenda's own record IMO

Ana if she drops Dementiewa's ball toss.
Nicole might go up too in the future.

I think the thread means who will threaten Venus's MD record. Venus still has the MD record:)

I would say Ivanovic. She hit one at 123 during Wimby 05:eek:

Here's some of the top ones from Wimbledon this year :

Venus Williams 126 mph
Serena Williams 123 mph
Amelie Mauresmo 117 mph
Ana Ivanovic 117 mph
Maria Sharapova 115 mph
Justine Henin 114 mph
Elena Dementieva 113 mph
S. Kuznetsova 111 mph
Nicole Vaidisova 111 mph

I honestly don't see anyone breaking it but Venus. She was regulary serving 1st serve bombs at 120-125 at Wimbledon. When she really goes for it she reaches the big numbers 127-128. I think she'll break it or tie it at the US Open.

Greta Arn broke Brenda's record a few weeks ago playing WTT, she hit a 131 MPH, am I the only one who knew this :speakles: Luke Jensen said it during the final match.

Does it really matter if Venus has the main draw record? The serve speed record is the record even if it was done in a $10k qualifying match, so the record belongs to Brenda.

And I voted Brenda in the poll by the way.

I agree, those were the top recorded individual serves though. Here's the average first serve for those same players :

Venus Williams 110 mph (115)
Serena Williams 107 mph (109)
Amelie Mauresmo 106 mph (107)
Ana Ivanovic 106 mph (106)
Nicole Vaidisova 103 mph (104)
Justine Henin 102 mph (104)
Maria Sharapova 101 mph (105)
Svetlana Kuznetsova 100 mph (102)

(Brackets = best performance, I'll give you three guesses which match Venus hit 115mph on average in... ;) )

Wow I haven't heard that. Why hasn't that been big news?

I agree that although Venus may have the MD record, Brenda still has the REAL record with 130, or Greta with 131. I voted Brenda in the poll.

BTW, LMAO at the last 4 choices in the poll!

well its brendas record, not venus'... however i would say venus, brenda and alicia molik have the best/fastest serves in womens tennis...

brenda actually said last year that she tought if anyone would break her record one day, it would be molik:)

I heard some say Brenda hit 126mph at cincy.(also 130 mph at the same event last year.)
She is the biggest(sorry fatest) server on the tour.

Speed isn't importany BTW the real questions how often he/she holds her serve
Anyway who holds the record for the most percentage of service games held in wta tour?

In ATP karlovic holds his serve 94 % of the time followed by roddick 91 %.

Thats in the mens game in which breaks dont happen that often... the womens game is different. And speed does matter in that Venus hit serves consistantly in the 120's in the last half of the wimbledon draw and what do you know she didnt get broken (I dont believe, could be wrong on this. may have happened once)

And im sorry main draw does matter..... if we're talkin qualifiers then im sure there might be some joe blow out on the street whose served faster than any of them...

Regardless I think Venus could break all three of the "record holders best" at the U.S.

Does the name Akiko Morigami and alla kurdyvatseva ring a bell to you.?
She benfited from the choking of these two players. both players outplayed venus in the match.
So these players managed to read her 120 mph bombs.

let me help you... Last half as in 2nd week.....as in the matches in which she dominated...as in the matches in-which she served well....
And in terms of a Grand Slam it goes Top draw and Bottom draw....

Venus and Serena are the only two who regularly serve in the 120s. Everyone else can barely go past 115 regularly. Brenda is the only other threat but she needs to make a main draw for it to be legitimate ( which makes no sense ).

Greta Arn or Camille Pin obviously

Serena hits them power but not as powerful as Venus Williams (she aims for alittle more placement than her sister which takes off the speed that extra few mph)

Also why is Martina H on the list???? Her serves have never been anything special, shes admitted this herself

btw i think there is a huge difference between MD record and just the normal record as strange as it may seem....anyone can get into qualifying and hit a bomb but not everyone can get into the MD and do it especially consistently and having it make a difference (well ignore roddick :tape: )

Why would that matter? One could argue you have to be good enough to play just in the Qualies... And to not just be playing in Qualies but to be good enough to be ona court with a speed gun.

And Brenda's been serving this big for who knows how long? She's an old lady and get still get more juice than anyone else, and plays just a few WTA matches (therefore has few opportunities), and she beat it without much effort.

The record is Brenda's.
