On the face of it seems about right (especially top 6) but Golovin having the *same* chances as Chaky and Petrova is pretty amusing. Wonder where they have Elena.

i agree and having nicole with better odds than chaky and nadia is just laughable shes not played a match in 7 weeks!

That's true but I see the reasoning with her slam performances this year. Although I do agree (I assume you think this, lol) that it would be unwise to just *assume* that with no match practice she can replicate that form. Then again that applies to Serena too.

I mean, don't me wrong, I agree with the top four, but when you've got Serena who hasn't got past the 4th round since 2004 they're going on reputation rather than form at the moment/past results in the event. At least they're being consistent by doing that with Vaidisova too.

yep i agree serenas odds are on what shes capable of as is nicoles rather than current form (as neither has any!) but i just dont get the feeling nicoles gona do very well the us opens her worst slam and its been a long lay off!

I go along with that. Also, given her seeding I don't see her getting past the 4th round at all to be honest given she's got Justine, Maria, JJ and Sveta. Got to pray for Sveta having a mental day otherwise she's gone.

One thing I would do is question the logic in having JJ over Ana. Must be solely based on last year's result

i guess its because jj is a top 4 seed so she aviods playing venus in 4th round and henin and sharapova in the qtrs where as ana could draw any of these 3! and the semi last year does have an influence! for me i would say jj has a better chance of reaching the semi/qtrs than ana but ana has a better chance of winning (i dont see jj being upset early or in the 4th round say but i can see this happening to ana but if ana gets into the tournament then she is better equipped to win it!)!

Thinking out loud as well I suppose her record vs. the williamses might have something to do with it. hmm.

After the draw, I'm surprised Sharapova isn't the favorite. The top half is a tough place to be.
And Sveta is looking better and better.

Not really when you consider Safina is in the Justine/Serena quarter and Szvay is in the Dani/Petrova quarter.

Not really when you consider Safina is in the Justine/Serena quarter and Szvay is in the Dani/Petrova quarter.

Also not really when one considers the form of Szavay. Actually at 150/1 Szavay is tremendous value as an each way bet. I would give her at least a 5% chance of making the final, maybe 10.

Safarova at 125.00 is the best value. When she is on she beats top players easy. In 2007, she has beaten Henin, Mauresmo (twice), Kuznetsova, Chakvetadze, Vaidisova, Schnyder in straight sets. She is the only player to beat Henin in straight sets this year. She also played many tight 3-setters, against Serena (Hobart, 7-6 at 3rd), Jankovic (terrific match at Wimbledon, could have won), Chakvetadze, Petrova (Paris final), etc. She has never played Sharapova, Bartoli, and Hingis.

Azarenka at 400.00 is the fun bet. She will not win but could go far.

I love her and all, but I'd love to see her make the final and maybe win New Haven before she gets to the final of the US Open :spit:

People should really read into how odds are made. Oddsmakers can hook people into betterin on someone like Golovin who has no chance of winning if they put her odds a bit high. It's also draw dependent. Notice how Maria went up in the newest odds. The fact that she'll very likely go untested into the second week increases her chances of winning just by virtue of being in the later rounds. And the odds of the 4th, 5th, and 6th players are all close and lower than the top 3 because they are all in one quarter. Serena's odds went down a bit because she's in Justine's quarter, and so on.

To me, Kuznetsova and Petrova are the best value for money from the list above. Especially Sveta. What does she need to make the finals? Beat Petrova on hardcourts? Beat Sharapova on hardcourts? Been there. Done that..
