I wonder if this is a last-minute decision to play double in New Haven as she wasn't scheduled to play there (she is not in single draw). I guess Maria wants more practice since she lost early in Toronto. Hopefully this means that her injury at Toronto is not serious.

it's strange that she is in the doubles and not the singles

This is great news as it shows the injury doesn't seem too serious!

I have been banging on for ages a bout her playing too much tennis. I suspect this is a way of getting more practice in and she doesn't believe she can get a singles seeding for the USO now.

I`m pretty surprised that Makiri has decided to play doubles in New Haven. Hopefully she and Viktoria get a win or two there.

Maybe she decided to play there not just to get some practice, but also to see Igor in New Haven.... ;)

I thought Makiri had a knee injury and blister problems on her foot at the Roger's Cup in Toronto. Why risk aggravating the injuries with the USO so close??? Anyways, she probably missed Igor too much that she had to be there in New Haven to see her boyfriend. Anyways, good luck in doubles Makiri! It's a real pity that the US Open Series don't have both ATP & WTA playing together more often.
