Absolutely fantastic match. Tati is just impressive as hell...if she can keep her injuries to a minimum, she'll be top 5 no problem. What a game she has!

JJ...well done. Fought through fatigue, negativity, choking...fantastic stuff.

She played out of her mind from 2-5 to 1-0 in the 2nd, but can she sustain that or more like can she really play like this all the time? I've not seen her be that aggressive before.

Well done JJ, brainless tennis from Tatiana to close the match - 3rd set was just "hit as hard as possible" and she was never going to get out of it once that wasn't working.

Tati lost it in the second set, 2-2. She had two break points, squandered them and then got broke the next game...and wasn't the same again. But she is better. Maybe she is upset that Bartoli has temporarily taken the French No. 2, or has seen Mauresmo wobbling and wants the top spot. Good luck to her :)

Choke? Ok so Tati didn't come out and smack every ball? Ok :)

I agree with you completely. Jankovic did not choke, Golovin was just going for all her shots and making them. Her returns off of Jelena's 2nd serves were AMAZING!

It was fight from her opponent, not choking that lost Jelena the 1st set.

Good match indeed, in terms of drama and quality of tennis, which was on the whole a great standard. Also good to see some variety here and there - dropshots, lob winners, some forays into the net. One of the better matches I've seen in a while.

Jelena - please sort out this yip you have when you get in front soon - losing 5 games in a row is just :o - and you tried it again in the third set before breaking again and then rattling off the end of the match. You make your own life so much more difficult and end up losing matches you should win - Ivanovic last week being a prime example.

Tati showed some good stuff today - the consistency was a bit up and down from her, and in the end, too much so.

But a great contest nonetheless.

At 2-5 down in first set Golovin started to hit the ball with more agressivity, pace and was hardly missing even the most risky shots. No way it was a choke from Jankovic. The only thing I would reprehend her for was that she started serving like a junior. Golovin was killing her second serves so she wanted to hit a first serve as often as possible but because of that they were considerably slower, not as slow as second serves but Golovin was able to hit penetrating returns off it as well. Clinical display from her till 1-0 in second set but it was inevitable that her level would drop eventually. It looked that she found it again when she broke back to 1-2 in the decider but it went away as quickly as it reappeared. Still it was a great tennis from her, maybe a bit ballbashing but very good nonetheless. Jankovic won thanks to her superb defense, incredible consistency and some sloppy errors from Golovin in crucial moments. Some of those missed volleys were really needless and she would have done better if she had let the ball fall on the ground instead of taking it immediately in the air. But at least it says she is confident about her volleys.
Congrats Jelena, I wanted her to win this one.

What an incredible match! We need more of these matches. Awesome fight from Tati down 2-5, that was no choking from Jankovic. Golovin set it in her mind to stop sucking and bring her A game. Reminded me so much of the Nasdaq 06 semis vs Sharapova. She had tons of momentum going into the 2nd set, had early double break point and that's where the match turned.

Great fight and defence from Jelena, though. It took her a while to get used to Golovin's added aggression and firepower, but it showed midway through the second set she was more and more comfortable. Improve that second serve though, it's horrid :o. Good luck tomorrow Jelena, I'll be rooting for you, and another good match overall. I can't remember the last time Canada had a good finals :help:.

Very fun match, and some deliciously aggressive tennis from Tati. She really impressed in the first set and through some patches in the second and third. Never seen her hit that hard or be that aggressive, she seems to be taking steps in the right direction. Had she gotten that break early in the second, who knows what could have happened.

Anyway, Jelena was solid as a rock as usual. She's playing well. I give her a decent shot at beating Henin.

Tati

The form that she displayed from 2-5 down to 7-5 1-0 was brilliant. She was going for her shots and hardly missing anything. That two break points she failed to convert at 0-1 was a huge game from Tati. After that, her level dropped a little bit and she never recovered her play and started to miss a lot more shots.

Jelena :yeah:
She looked tired after a few games in the first set and her serve was a mess but she fought hard. Good luck in the final.

great match, just great. The first set was one of the best i've seen in ages. JJ was playing really well and was going for it. Its not like tati was even playing badly, she just couldnt get the first strike in so she lost 4 in a row. Then, tati tried to be even more aggresive, hitting it harder than sharapova! (not quite the williamses or ivanovic tho) she was going for the corners and it payed off. Absolutely spectacular and even then, JJ had barely dropped her form. Seriously, i just think that from 2-5, tati just thought: 'if i go out, i will go out swinging' she then let Jankovic back in and JJ took advantage and although tati showed patches of that great form, she couldn't play like that all the time. The beauty of this is now she can go back and perfect this way of playing. She could seriously be a top top player in a few years. Dont anyone tell me that she can't go blow for blow with the BBBs. So many spectacular winners in that match, especially from tati. If someone had tati's forehand and JJ Bh DTL, they would surely be no.1 it seemed that JJ was more scared of what tati could do than vice versa.

Harder than Sharapova? :spit: I went back to rewatch, Jelena's level most definitely dropped considerably... she was hitting mostly errors (some because Golovin got to shots, but not all) and Golovin was just aggressive on those second serves (and that one first serve) which really deserved to be attacked. I just think Golovin played a good patch, was hitting some good shots when Jelena's level dropped... wasn't anywhere near as amazing as I thought yesterday. I still think Tatiana is maybe top 10 at best... although rankings don't mean that much these days at all, so she could be higher, and no, I don't think she could come close to challenging a Justine or Serena (in-form) with how she played 2-5 down. Although Justine or Serena would probably kill Jelena too playing like yesterday.

Harder than Sharapova? I went back to rewatch, Jelena's level most definitely dropped considerably... she was hitting mostly errors (some because Golovin got to shots, but not all) and Golovin was just aggressive on those second serves (and that one first serve) which really deserved to be attacked. Yes, but Jelena leveled up in the 2nd and 3rd and outplayed Tatiana

remember, sharapova doesn't even hit it that hard.
