Zi was a ghost of herself.. Justine played really well

Henin was pretty amazing by the end, playing better than anyone else so far this US series. I'd put money on her winning the USO.

Great tourney from Yan, she was never going to beat Henin, especially when Henin is in 'magic mode' like today.

Zi has nothing to be ashamed of. She played very well for the most part with maybe the exception of the last 3 games of the first set.. but Justine was just on fire... played awesome in the second set. Great fight Zi :yeah:

Zi hit way too many attackable shots, and her serve is relatively weak. Still, she put in a great effort and had a great run this week.

JuJu played so aggressively, especially in the 2nd set. If she could play fast court slam semis & finals like that, she'd have won more of them by now. She looks like a heavy favorite tomorrow.

Zi :sobbing: :crying:
she had opportunities to tie it at 4-4 in the first set but when Juju broke, it went downhill

Pretty much! She played near perfect in the 2nd. Now Jelena must win her semi to set up an encounter with Justine.

Henin's the best

Congrats Justine! :) Your backhand and net play are excellent today.

Zi  You still have a good week in Toronto.
She played worse than yesterday obviously.Perhaps she has a little bit nervous when playing against world No.1.

I think it is natural for her shoulder to be a bit sore after a 5 wk break off. Of course, Petrova's heavy serves may also contribute to that.

Ju did look really good in the final set. Once she started to hit deep shots it was a different match.

Well, I wasn't impressed by Justine in the first set. Looked to me at times like Carlos had told her to play passively in the middle of the court. It was all a different story in the second. She played really well and agressively.

Yan hit some cool passing shots.

Well done,Justine! Now win the tournament! :)

Zi made a lot of UEs when she was trying to hit winners.
I'd say Justine did great defensive work in 1s.

How come Zi won a lot more points on her second serve than on first serve in the second set? Anyway it was such a good run.Keep it going in NY. :D

I wish I could see the match somewhere.Congrats to the well-deserved number 1. :worship:

hmm justine's played great today but that doesn't mean anything. At wimbledon, she was playing great against the lesser players and look what happened. Same with maria at wimbledon also. Against the high players when you get deeper in the draw is when she'll need to be playing great at uso

oh and badf luck yan zi but good run

Congrats Ju:bounce: Very good performance, she hit some superb backhands:hearts: . Good luck in the final.

I'm a bit worried about her shoulder though:unsure: Hope it's not serious.

Also congrats to Zi, she made an excellent tournament and now will be in top 80 (i think). If she keep improving she could be top50.

Justine :worship: Flawless second set.

Zi  You played decent. Justine was just too good in the second set. I think one commentator from Radio-Canada said it best: to give Zi some credit, she made Justine's talent shine, and he meant that in a good way. Basically, Zi hung on in the rallies long enough to force Justine to come up with a great shot to end the rally. There were some pretty nice, long rallies, but Justine always ended up taking control of them. And once Justine turned it on in the mid-first set, she was unstoppable.

It was really funny when Zi tried to fight off a wasp before serving, at some point in the second set. The wasp was really determined though and kept coming back.

The British Eurosport commentator was saying that Yan is playing in New Haven doubles next week, the same time as the US qualifiers is taking place, and that she'll probably choose the doubles over qualifying. But with her ranking up to 80 next week, surely she shouldn't have to qualify for the US Open?

Thats stupid! And very unfair considering there was still a few tournaments for players like Yan to break the top 120 or whatever number the main draw stops at. Oh well... good luck Yan! Impressive week :yeah:

She played ok. Lond rallies, but they ended with some UEs of her or Justine winners. There were close games, but Justine played amazing on key points. It seems Justine played her best match in the tournament. So credit to Zi ;) She could have done better though. But still, great tournament :)
