Well Kirilenko was one of them but she's just retired, Sharapova was until she withdrew last week, Chakvetadze was until she burnt out and got ill and Mirza was until she burnt out and needed the rest. Ivanovic was until about an hour ago - in short, nobody.

1. Ivanovic
2. Chakvetadze
3. V. Williams
4. Jankovic

Serena and Henin are also hot, but they've done nothing this summer (and disappointed at Wimbledon).

Some of the other "hot" players of the summer season:

5. Kirilenko
6. Sharapova
7. Mirza

In truth, there isn't one player that has dominated the summer hardcourt season this year, nor was there one last year.

2007: Chakvetadze (Cincinnati, Stanford)
2006: ?
2005: Clijsters (Stanford, LA, Toronto)
2004: Davenport (Stanford, LA, San Diego)

Henin, Serena, Venus, Jankovic are the ones to beat at the US Open, IMO. Oh and Maria too, I guess, you can put her in instead of Jelena.

i'm an anna fan but winning a tier 3 and a weak tier 2 is not domination.

However, she's the only player to win more than one title during the summer season. As I wrote, no player has dominated the season this year, at least not like Clijsters and Davenport did in 2005 and 2004 respectively.

yeah i think ivanovic is better than jankovic. jankovic just needs to be a finalist in a grand slam.

Ivanovic, Sharapova, Chakvetadze, Schnyder... haven't seen much of any other players. But none of this matters as we get into the US Open. It's all about who's healthy or not.

2. Anna
3. Venus

Not in any particular order though, it changes too often in tennis for any sort of concrete answer.

Right on the money.
Ana can't even play two week, she hanging on to 4 by nose hairs.

Justine
Venus (but I don't think it'll last - it started to fade when she lost to Anna C.)
Ana - I consider her Toronto result as an anomaly.

Although it would seem that Sharapova cannot successfully compete for two weeks, either.
