Assuming Venus does not play New Haven, what kind of result does she have to get at the USO to get into the top 10. Which players should we (Venus fans) be hoping lose early?

SF... not less!

But for her is more important to be TOP8 in november and she is already #8 at YEC RACE.

i think both venus and serena will play YEC if they qualify and are healthy i think there keen to show they are 'the' major force in womens tennis and being there would prove this as they can bring quality not quantity to there tennis!

REALLY? That far? Even if Vaidisova, Hantuchova etc lose early?

Well then, i just hope she is top 10 year end, it's been a LONG while. In fact, when was the last time Venus played YEC? 2002?

Nicole only made the 3rd round last year and Daniela only made the 2nd round, so they have little to defend.

Venus is already better ranked player than Nicole - problem is #10 Hantuchova (Dani have more than 200 pts more than Venus or Nicole right now - and for GS QF player will reach 250 points).

What she needs to do is hire Tonya Harding and her husband, and then bash Daniela's kneecaps in, and then she wouldn't have to worry about reaching a certain stage. J/K. I love Daniela, but this seems like the perfect time to bring up a Nancy Kerrigan moment.

2002 was the last time Venus played. Venus hasn't qualified for the YEC since 2004.

Venus has never prioritized the YEC. I can even remember her skipping it when she qualified. She didn't even play in 2000 or 2001. She's only ever played it twice.

Cp6uja is pretty much right. If Dani gets to :

Non-QF NH & 1st round Open : -13 points = 1955
Venus will have to make the Quarterfinal : 250pts = 2015
- That's extremely unrealistic though.

QF NH & 2nd-4th round Open : +35, +22/+52/+102 = 2025/2055/2105
Venus will have to make the Semifinal : 450 points = 2215
- This is a pretty conservative bracket and means she can go 2-2 combined in both tournaments and still leave Venus needing a semi to overtake her.

I hope Venus draws Daniela quite early on, then she can get rid of her sharpish and hopefully move into the top ten.

that's not likely because daniela is now #10 & venus is #12 (projected rankings)
so that will probably be their seedings for the USO, #9 til #12 can't meet before the semi's
patty can jump over venus, so that would make V the 13th seed, which means that daniela-venus could only happen in the quarterfinal or later

2002 was the last time Venus played. Venus hasn't qualified for the YEC since 2004.

Venus didn't qualify in 2004. She would have had she beaten Mauresmo at Philadelphia. But, she didn't.

she only played the YEC in 1999 and 2002!

It's just a matter of time before Venus reaches top 10 again!:worship:

But I think Venus fucked up her chances to qualify for the YEC by committing to Bankok and Seoul:rolleyes:

how??

she couldve add beijing/zurich/linz
i think that shes committing to tourneys that she is sure shes playing...
cuz she doesnt want to have another toronto..

and i think that she does want to play the YEC once again..
especially in 2004 where she had to play those numbers of tournaments
just to almost qualify for it...

I have a question: What was the Grand Slam Cup? The Williamses, particularly Venus did particularly well in that, and I just want to know what that was about.

If she won the USO she wouldn't have a problem qualifying for the YEC would she?

Yeah, if she wins, she will be able to play, i dunno if she would play though.

She can't. She will most likely be in the same seeding bracket (9-12) as Daniela, thus making them both playing 5-8 seeds in the last 16 and both 1-4 seeds in the quarters. The earliest they can meet is the semifinal, unless Golovin wins Toronto, in which case the earliest they can meet would be the quarterfinals. Anyway, even if Daniela does lose early Venus will still have to make the semi to overtake her.
