What a crazy 3rd set:

first 3-0 Dubois
then 5-3 Sugiyama
and at the end 7-5 Dubois

Congrats :)

Ai :bigcry: HAD A MATCH POINT :bigcry: Just too many mistakes.
I know I'm Canadian but this is a really bad loss for Ai who could've used the second round points really..
And she won't even get to play doubles. Crap tournament for Ai.

Dubois, well, good job.

Wow Ai, this is a low point...Dubois is a pretty average player and inexperienced...losing a long tight match to her is bad...

Wow, impressive win for Steph! I thought it was game over after she squandered *3-0 lead in the FS.

Well done to Stephanie... crap match from Ai though. She started playing well down 0-3 to come back to 5-3 and then went back to crap afterwards. Really good effort from Stephanie though to save a match point and hang in there.

Aug 14th, 2007, 09:03 PM
She's up 3*-0, then choke badly, save a MP's (wich Sugiyama could EASILY have won) and then she breaks back and won?

Yeah, 70 UEs, that's what it looked like.
It's just such a disappointing loss for her..

A sloppy match, but, nonetheless, a great win for Dubois. Rogers Cup always brings out the best in her.

Oh god Ai, the ERRORS, the ERRORS :speakles: Can't believe she blew this. Ugh. And that match point :fiery: She could have put that ball away easily. EASILY.

Pretty happy for Steph though, way to hang in there ! :yeah:

If I say that I'll get another bad rep from that retarded pcrtennis. :o

Anyway, I think Sugiyama is pretty much done, she will hang around the #30 now and wont do anything special. She cant compete with the top players any more and has lousy losses from time to time. However, because she is still quite consistant and because she has a lot of luck with the draws she still wins enough matches to be Top30.
But a contender for Top20... never again!

Good job Stephaine. Did'nt Stephanie play Kim in Montreal last year? I believe Kim retired from that match due to her wrist injury.

Come on give Stephanie credit she could of folded BUT beat a top 30 player. I think this is a HUGE UPSET a REAL SHOCK. I recall seeing Dubois play Clijsters last year and I didn't think she was good. But this year the girl has REALLY improved EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of her game. Got to give Stephanie credit. WELL DONE!!!

Wow congrats to Steph :worship: I thought she was done in the third.

I'm guessing it's the best win of her career. She has improved a lot since the last time I saw her play against Serra-Zaneti two years ago.

She really needs to start playing more agressive though is she wants to be top 100. She's basically Camille Pin #2 right now (minus the choking today). In order for her to win, her opponent has to have a lot of unforced errors.

Good luck against Petrova :yeah:

dubois isn't THAT bad of a loss. obviously, ai blew one of the easiest draws she could have gotten, but dubois is a solid top 150 player and was playing at home.

poor Ai, i watched this on eurosport, i've never seen anyone (bar hantuchova versus asagoe) commit so many UEs! She's meant to be the dependable, consistent one! I hope she regroups for New Haven and the US Open :)

2 years of playing doubles with Dani and her patented UE-fest finally rubs off on Sugi :D. Unbelievably poor play, truly a match she lost. Well done to the Canadian girl for hanging in there and making her miss, but an awful loss for Ai. There must be a running contest in the lockerroom as to who can have the most UEs. Vakulenko started it, Safina gave it a good shot but Ai defined it.

Very, very brave fight from Steph. You could tell she really believed she could win this match, and it showed. She's such a fighter. ALLEZ! Great win. :D

Ai... too many errors today. But to be fair, she was being a lot more aggressive than she usually likes to be, seeing as Dubois was making her play everything and more.

Steph, that win was so great today. It was awesome being there live, but sometimes I felt like I was the only one cheering (in the first two sets).
Then the crowd really got good.

Ai BOMBED her match point. :o Such an easy putaway. It was pathetic.
But Steph played great, and really has improved A TON.

No, that was some random dude in the 300's. I had silvers, thank you very much.

I liked his spirit though, a lot. And I'd try to join in, but he'd only do two and I'd join in late. But at least 3 times a game I yelled "Let's go Steph" or "Come on Steph".

She was looking good, too.

As much as I'm happy for Steph, I must admit that Ai should really had won this match. She had an easy volley at matchpoint and she gave the point to steph with a slow ball in the middle of the court.

i bet she bounces back and has a great us open:):p as far ai being unable to compete with the top players now id call a tight 4 and 4 loss to anna c in sandiego and paris competing, she did also beat bammer in 2 sets, ai can make it back into the top20 and i hope she does so
