You'll get a chance to see her on ESPN2 hopefully tomorrow!

But she's not really a big power player. She has some power, very quick, variety, and can volley very well. Her serve has also improved.

She doesn't really have huge weapons like Safarova or Ivanovic.

And I need to express my happiness once again. GRATS MASHA. :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

While I don't agree with you, JJ has to get used to feeling the pressure.

She has many points to defend now, she just qualified for the YEC for the 1st time (a huge accomplishment :worship: ), and she now has the pressure of expectation and going into most matches as the favorite.

I don't think it's 'game over' but it will be interesting to see how she copes with all of this going into the championship. Come on Jelena!!!

Took #2 Amélie Mauresmo to 3 sets at Miami 2005 (won the first and choked the second, tanked the third)
Took a set from Justine Hénin at Berlin 2005 (clay), being one of the very few players to have done such on the latest years.
Famous win over Sharapova at Beijing...
Took Davenport to 3-setters twice in 2006 (AO and Dubai), Davenport was #1 and #3 at those times.

But I think Jelena struggled this week because she hasn't played matches in a long time. For someone who doesn't like practicing, going two weeks without play is killer. Jelena should be back to her usual self in no time.

Congrats Makiri on your huge upset win over Jelena! I really like your chances against Elena. Good luck in the next round!

Wow. :hatoff: Now I don't feel so bad about Lucie's loss in the previous round -- though she still needs to step it up!

Did Jelena really say she had a cold? If so, she always has an excuse.

I love me some Lena D, but I also want to see this newer, on fire Kirilenko. Tennis Channel better show the damn match.

Yeah, one bad match and it's already game over  :fiery:

Actually 2 matches. Wimbledon was awful too;)

Jelena should take a break and fix some new targets like winning a GS or even the YEC cause she's wasting lots of energy by playing every single week, if she's not injured.

Looking forward to see how she's going to handle the pressure cause her "I have nothing to defend" time is over.

Since when Makiri actually plays tennis:eek:

Those are her targets already. Whether she achieves them or not remains to be seen.

Not quite true. The only points she'll likely have to defend are in LA (and only just under 50 at that) and the US Open. None of the rest of her results for last year are counting towards her ranking because she's exceeded them with this year's tournament results. :wavey:

Maria is hardly a new player... I remember her taking to serena to 3 sets back in 03 at the French... and she made the finals of some tournaments in 03/04 and won a tournament in 2004. She also took Henin to 3 sets on clay and Mauresmo to 3 sets in Miami in 2004 (for those I had to look her up :ras: ) But I remember her name as one of the new players back in 2003/2004... she could usually put up a fight but I don't think she has the game (right now) to ever be a champion of anykind, just kind of 1-match-wonders every so often

It surprises me how Kirilenko manages to win matches against opponents like Jankovic even when in form. She doesn't have much in her game to trouble anyone, and her footspeed is decent, but by no stretch the best on tour. Just shows how important determination, variety, placement and depth are.

I hope more players can follow Jankovic, Chakvetadze, Kirilenko and Peer's example. There's no need to blast every ball if you have good tactics.

Wow Maria!

I was following the scoreboard last night, and i thougght she was a goner when Jelena took the second set, but she rebounded superbly. Great mental toughness to close out one of the form players of the year:worship:

I still wonder whether Jelena is feeling this year more than most......
