Tonight will be a battle between two former double partners and friends. Do you think Tanasugarn will have a shot. I think Sharapova will go through with a 3 set win.

Masha and Tammy are good friends. They were former doubles partners and traveled together the whole time when Masha was in Thailand. But I really don't know. Perhaps they might not be friends if Tammy wins this match.

I don't think Tammy has what it takes to pull out a victory. I'd gladly apologise if she does beat Maria though.

Okay People. I've put up with it long enough. I'm not even a Masha fan, and even I can see that Maria has had fantastic results this year. She had TWO hiccups...Indian Wells loss to Zvonereva and Istanbul loss to Rezai.

Otherwise we have, AO Finals (l. to Serena), Tokyo SF (l. to Ivanovic), Miami 4R (l. to Serena), Roland Garros SF (l. to Ivanovic), Birmingham Finals (l. to Jankovic), Wimbledon 4R (l. to Venus).

That's top 5 level IMO.

Of course she's had top 5 results (or close to it), but she's #2 in the world and not top 5 in the race (close though). The thing is, other girls have played more and very few have done anything more spectacular.

In any case, given how she was during the hardcourt season and indoors seasons last year, I don't think many imagined seeing her throw in dozens of double faults in her first tournaments this year. People also expect her to fight really hard in her matches (which she still has) but for her to at least be losing close matches. Her only close losses have been to Vera and Jankovic. She's lost her way a great deal with her serve and has lost confidence on court at times. It seems like for Sharapova-- that for every 2004 or 2006, she'll have a 2005. In tennis, if you aren't getting better, you're getting worse. She needs to step it up again.

Maybe top 6 after looking closer at her results. I'd put her after (in no particular order) both Serbians, Justine, and both Williams sisters.

I agree,so far this season there are only 5 more accomplished players. That is still a remarkable accomplishment and was the same as 2005 really. She was behind the Belgians and the Williamses that year. She is still very young and will have ups and downs like every other player. Hopefully she can turn this year around though.

My prediction was very close. I only missed it my one game if you switched the sets.
