Believe it or not, these are Serena's only two double bagels of her entire career. Now this means either two things, either Serena often throws her opponents a bone, or she really isn't as intimidating as people claim because more often than not, most players seem to pull themselves together enough to at least take 1 game off her.

Now compare to Kim "Congeniality" Clijsters

sorry to dispell your theory but i think the real reason is that serena is simply a far more aggresive player than clisters! for serena to play 12 games where shes constantly going for winners and not play a game where she misses more than she makes is near impossible! where as clijsters who is attacking but not on a serena level puts more topspin on the ball and plays with more margin for error so if clijsters is head and shoulders above the oposition then a double bagel is more likely where as serena can be head and shoulders above a player and still lose games because she does exactly that 'loses' the games!

It is interesting. Justine doesn't really double bagel either, despite her "ruthless" image.

IW against Nakamura in 2006
AO against Lukaszewicz in 2004 (and she got bagelled in the first round of the junior tournament too :help: )

With Justine, I think it's just that she loses concentration when it's too easy. She wins a lot of early matches 6-1 6-1 or similar scores, but not double bagels.

Martina wasn't ruthless too but her double bagels aren't that much even if she has given 117 bagel sets in her career:

2) MIAMI 1998 R32 H2H (21) KRUGER, JOANNETTE 23 W 6-0 6-0

oh i totally got that but the reason i was  is cause marti's such a great counterpuncher that eventho she could be dominated at times by the big hitters, she could still manage to win a few games. i don't think was marti ever dbl-bagelled by any of the big hitters even at 14.

That makes sense, but I don't agree. Not to dispel your theory, but Serena has been close to a double bagel just as many times as Kim. So if Kim's so called less aggression supposedly helps her to attain the double bagel more often than Serena, then in turn it should also help her to be close to the double bagel a lot more often than Serena, which it doesn't. I find it hard to believe that Serena or Kim couldn't bare down to win one more game to get the double bagel more often if they really wanted to.

Higher risk tennis produces more errors, and it's easy to drop a game or two on errors playing Serena's style of tennis. You can say the same thing for serve and volleyers-who also rarely win in double bagels.
