Mary Wong withdrew from this exhibition, here is an statement.

"I am really sorry that I cnanot make it, but as a junior I really think that the Grade A tourney is more important, I really hope the tournament will not be too unhappy as I was the one who ask for a wildcard for the first place, I am willing to fly over for a bit of promotion stuff as long as I finish my commitment in the tournament, ie lost all my matches"

Jelena Dokic arrives in Germany, Daniela withdraws!

World no 5, Jelena Dokic of Australia has arrived in Germany ahead of next week's Baden Open where she hopes to perform well.

Arriving in Karlsruhe today, a very relieved Dokic was happy to be back at the place where she won the doubles title last year. Dokic announced however that her sister, Daniela would not be in Germany as she has committed for the Grade A Eddie Herr Championships.

'Daniela didn't know they were in the same week. Her management company decided that it would be better for her to play at the Eddie Herr rather than here'

Dokic, the only player arrived in Karlsruhe came early after announcing a multi-million sponsorship plan with German company, Mercedes Benz. The US$ 30,000,000 over 2 years deal means Dokic is officially the highest paid player in the business. Something she believed she doesn't deserve.

'I just do my best. Players like Larissa, Selima, Sabine, Jane and Ruflina deserve it more than me. They've been around for a while but if a company is going to offer it, then I'll take it. Mercedes is a good company and I love their cars.'

Dokic will take on Juzzy Nakajima here in Germany and she is wary of the threat Nakajima poses.

'The younger players are always tough. They're so full of fire and ready to go. They're all beautiful young women and once they get on the court, you'd better be prepared to fight. They're going to be great players, Nakajima will be very tough'

Dokic will now assist in helping the tournament get set up in preparation for the arrivals coming from Botswana.

Chrystal Navratilova announces her retirement.

In a surprise announcement, Navratilova's management group today announced her retirement effective after the Baden Exhibition. Although the reasons surrounding the retirement are clouded to say the least. The only comment made was that Chrystal, unlike a certain other player, would not be changing her decision and stuffing FWTT Administrators around. A press conference is scheduled for later today.

FWTT dealt 2nd blow within hours.

First it was Chrystal in the seniors, now in a shock move, China Navratilova has also retired. No reasons where given, except that China flew in today to be with her sister here. China is expected to be with Chrystal in a press conference announced for later today.
