why is that strange? i cheer for teams from many different nations even in football. for example, you can see in my sig which nation i'm supporting at the u20 world cup and copa america. and i can't say i have anything to do with argentina at all.

as for the fed cup, i honestly don't care about it at all except when my faves are playing :o

i know. what i meant is that supporting national teams from countries you have nothing to do with is nothing strange since i'm doing it all the time and i know a lot of other people who do that. but i suppose you're not used to it ;)

If it's about countries I always support The Netherlands.
In case of Fed Cup or Davis Cup, I actually support none cause I don't care about it at all.
If we talk only about 1 person then it doesn't matter for me where she or he comes from. Ana is the 2nd person I support who's not from my country, but that's more cause I don't support so many people.

Ok, WAY offtopic.
May Ana take revanche on Daniela!!

don't know anything about the other 2 slovakians, but they are both ranked lower than lukic

and this is really a werid competition. countries with top players like serbia, slovakia and also australia and ukraine are playing each other and the rest in the world group 2 play-offs hardly have a player in top 100 :weirdo: and the belgian team :help:

I have some bad news: unfortunately my knee is injured. If you saw me playing at Wimbledon maybe you noticed I was wearing some funny looking medical plasters on my knee! Is it really impossible that she has a year without an injury?
Last year she had 2 of them, this is already the 2nd of this year and in 2005 she had to withdraw from Easbourne.

Ana won't play San Diego. That tournament starts at July 30 so she takes all the rest that's needed.
Now I hope she plays in LA cause 1 tournament isn't not enough preparation I'd say.
Main thing is for sure that she will be 100% in New York.
Missing a Tier I can hurt her ranking.

I have no doubts that Ana wants to play this coming
weekend in Fed Cup. In Tuesday edition of sports daily
published in Belgrade (Sportski Zurnal, not available on
the web) she was saying that after her knee gets checked
on Tuesday, she'll come to Belgrade for one day, or
in the worst case scenario, if she needs additional therapy,
she'll come to Kosice by Friday.

Her father has been quoted as saying the final decision
on her playing will be made on Thursday, after another visit
to the specialist in Rome.

This afternoon "NEXT TOURNAMENT" section of Ana's
site has been changed from Fed Cup back to Wimbledon.

I guess all this means her injury is more serious then
previously thought, but she hopes the pain will be gone
by Thursday. And looks like she's staying in Rome until then.

Fed Cup is only tennis, this is her health, her body & her future!

And besides that, just the simple fact that she isn't playing doesn't decide Serbia's fate in the tie... It isn't her fault if the others can't stop and play the match of their life to win... Just as it wouldn't be Jelena's if she didn't play.

But they have to understand that Ana needs recovery time she can't riSck herself by playing if she is injured........specially when she has so many points to defend in the USO series.

And Ana loves her country and I bet she is sad/dissapointed because she can't play for Serbia rigth now.....but comme on!!!!!!!! some people its been unfair to her and that its not ok.......

It has nothing with patriotism.
perhaps in your case, but what sane people will bitch about ana being injured and not playing "for them" (for the national team)? it's only serbians who complain about that, you know. and there is nothing wrong with being patriotic, but some people are demanding way too much from ana (and probably other players as well).

It has nothing with patriotism. If we hosted tournament and being able to watch them live no one would say word about Fed Cup. No one ask them to win Fed cup, just to be in world group so they could play home ties.

Any bets Ana wont play next year?
How do u feel about Jelena not playing the 2nd match?

azdaja
Jul 19th, 2007, 09:04 PM
Im 99% sure she wont play next time either. Any Ana defender that thinks otherwise?
i honestly don't give a fuck about whether she will play in that competiotion or not. and if she is injured she should not play, period. i don't think she has the patriotic duty to work on development of tennis in serbia or to support the serbian national team by saying nice things about them like some weirdoes think. if she does, fine, that's nice of her. if she doesn't that's fine too, she has no obligations in this regard. neither does jelena or any other tennis player. if they do all these things you should be greatful. if they don't you shouldn't complain.

azdaja
Jul 19th, 2007, 10:18 PM
How come you pick to respond only whats convenient to you?
i don't. i disagree with pretty much everything you and some other people say about this topic and all that stems from my opinion about that competition and about players' obligations towards their countries. i could respond to every single point you have made by just copying those few sentences.

I said she doesnt have obligation to play.
yet you complain about it all the time, one way or the other  of course, just like other people from serbia you are trying to make your argument rational by mentioning how you would like to see her in belgrade and how it's also about the future of tennis in serbia and all that does sound reasonable except for that one point - she doesn't have to do any of that. and...

But she should stop pretending
she wants to play.
Its not her duty to help, but then why she mentions how she lacked
support when she was younger. If thats bothering her why she doesnt try to change it. Her words and her actions are in collision. Thats my complain.
...how do you know she is pretending? i mean, she played there last year. playing tournaments is her primary concern and that's how it should be. i'm pretty sure she would play fed cup if it doesn't affect her career in a negative way, which can easily happen, especially since she is prone to injuries. fed cup simply should not be her top priority, but once everything falls into place she will be there and serbia will qualify for the world group.

And again: how do you see her words about zonal event being bellow
her level.
she is right. from the "no obligations" point of view she is being nice when she plays there and if she does it while risking her success at more important competitions it's even outright stupid.

the way i see it, serbians should be happy and greatful about the success of ana, jelena and novak as it is. asking them to do more would be selfish, in a patriotic way. at least that's how i see it.

TEAM SERBIA - Ana Ivanovic facts

April 2005
Instead playing FED CUP Ana better prepare herself for clay season (especialy for Roland Garros).
RESULT: She reach with 17 years her first GS quarterfinal (Roland Garros), her best slam result before this year.

January 2006
Instead prepare better herself for Australian Open she played HOPMAN CUP for Serbia.
RESULT: She and Djokovic that january at Australia played theys worst tennis in Melbourne instead they best (Ana lose against Stosur in 2nd round and Nole lose against Goldstain in 1st round). She played much better at HC and in Sydnay (won against #1 Mauresmo) but at AO she played tired and lose easy against non seeded player.

April 2006
Instead prepare herself for clay season (especialy for Roland Garros) she played FED CUP and because playing in last day (against Israel) two hard matches in three sets she have injury and ruined her clay 2006 season.
RESULT: She withdraw from Berlin in 1st round because pain and she withdraw from Rome and lose before RG2006 draw TOP16 seed status and easy lose 3rd round match against Myskina.

April 2007
Instead playing FED CUP Ana better prepare herself for 2007 clay season in Barcelona.
RESULT: She won tier-I Berlin (which she withdraw last season because played FED CUP) and reach slam final at Roland Garros (and also first time in career she reach TOP10).

July 2007
Instead rest before start of USO hardcourt series (where she defend 1st place of 2006) she want to play FED CUP. But after MRI, doctors says that her knee injury is much worse and she must to miss that FED CUP match against Slovakia last week, Stanford next week and even San Diego in first week of august.

THIS IS FACTS (nothing personal or irational from me)

Also about "SUPPORTING" players when you not play. In GM "Dule@" started one thread against Ana and i asked him - if he think (like bokash also) that in cases like this is normal for player which not play to travel and support rest of team from crowd (Kosice crowd = 4.999 Slovakians + 1 Ana Ivanovic) why other TOP2 player from they countries which not play last week FED CUP matches not travel with they team and supported they from crowd (Henin, Sharapova, Kuznetsova, Dementieva, Safina, Na Li, Bartoli, Vaidisova...) and what kind of support you expect from her in her press statements... Like "Ana Timotic and Ana Jovanovic is about 500 place but they played like TOP300 - congrats girls"... or what???

Cp6uja
Jul 20th, 2007, 02:43 AM
April 2005
I remember her words then. And i said she will "play" like Seles, it was obvious. She played FC next year - so you wrong.

January 2006
Playing invitational exo paying 20K per match has nothing with representing her country. Just bad decision from her handlers and they corrected it next year. Her (and Nole's) price this year was too big for Hopman Cup. And its not like she was much better this year in Australia.Playing HOPMAN CUP is 10X prestiges for some country than playing in Euro/Africa zone of FED CUP or play-off for World Group 2. Also Ana played for Serbia 6 matches in Hopman Cup (Novak too) - are you realy belive that organizers give Ana and Novak 120K+120K (20K per match) for that??? Jelena and Jimmy reach 45K+45K for slam win in mix doubles... Also she played in that matches against all TOP50 players (including TOP10 Kuznetsova) and for example JJ this season in Plovdiv and Kosice in all her FED CUP matches (singles and dubles) played only one match against TOP100 player (Cibulkova #76). So please dont undervalue her and Djokovic decision to represent our country at HC in 2006 instead have normal preparation for AO.

April 2006
Had she won she wouldnt need to play two hard matches. Its her own fault she went there like on vacation. You complain against Ana "person" but you give so inhuman and cruel comment like this. :p :tape: :p :tape: She sacrifice whole her 2006 clay season in that day playing for our country - and thats your "thanks Ana". In both that matches she played against Peer, player with maybe best condition at WTA tour and that is reason why tired Ana last day lose both 3rd sets. Are you think that is Jelena fault that injury against Cibulkova (much worse player than Peer) because she dont won that match in straigh sets or before 3 hours of play? She played tired after Wimbledon and that is reason why she lose 2nd set with 6:1 or have big problems in 3rd against player like Cibulkova. Jelena in Kosice 2007 and Ana in Plovdiv 2006 played that hard matches for Serbia not for theyself and we dont have right to complain - its they fault because they played so hard matches.

July 2007
Mystery diary entry? She knew it all along. No - she know that already after first physical in that monday and public that results of her site in tuesday, but because she want to verify again she drop out that. But when results two days after that is same she publish her decision to not play again but this time like definitive. Her injury is obviously more serious than Jelena's (JJ will play San Diego and Ana not).

I didnt said once she should go there to sit on bench to show her support.
I have same right to say "we were so close", i had same contribution as her. :lol:So what you want of her last week? To play with serious knee injury?

she should stop whining how no one supported her when she was a kid. Or she should support today's kids. Works both ways.support today kids!? What do you talking about? Jankovic, Lukic, Timotic and Jovanovic is all older than Ana! Or why you expecting of her to tell lies about conditions in Serbia in Milosevic era or in first years after his down?

So, you are saying she will eventually play Fed Cup?She still dont have 20 but already played for our country 7 FED CUP matches, 6 HOPMAN CUP matches and want represent Serbia at Olympic games. So, you are saying she will NEVER eventually play Fed Cup? Only because she not playing with dangerous knee injury last week?

If you could follow media here you would see that her camp is very aware they made a mess and tried to clean it up. Piece on state TV news was laughable. Before her Paris final media in Serbia much favor Jelena and Nole than Ana. Even have dirty campaign against her (even Serbian tennis asociation is been part of that). Whole world speaking about Ana in superlatives in last 3 YEARS and in Serbian media only in last MONTH - and you are already protest because that.

perhaps. personally i don't care, remember?

"BELLOW HER LEVEL". Downright arrogant towards players playing that event. They are not successful like her but those words i would expect
from someone like Pova/Ree.
arrogant or not it's true.

For someone talking about tolerance all the time you sure dont respect
other people can have various motives for supporting her. I can like her FH but i also can say about things i dont like.
JJ and Novak do more than Ana. Am i alowed to praise them for that?
of course you can. that's what i'm saying - you can feel happy and greatful about players who are doing their patriotic duty that apparently means so much to you, but you should not criticise those who supposedly don't, especially given the circumstances (injuries and all that).

If you could follow media here you would see that her camp is very
aware they made a mess and tried to clean it up. Piece on state TV news

are you saying the serbian media are no less patriotic now even though milosevic has gone? :p they did not make a mess even though serbians may think so. perhaps she should switch her citizenship to a country where people are less anal about the fed cup?

Personally for me FedCup means like nothing, even though I'm from pretty patriotic country to put it this way. Sure I wouldn't mind if our players did better, but I really don't care and FedCup weeks are just as boring as November-December break. As for Ana and playing FedCup... She justified each of her absences... This spring she went training hard to Spain and we all know what was next, now she couldn't play because of a serious injury. I would be more than pissed should she played like JJ and worsen her condition. :o Even if that makes Jelena sort of national hero and Ana not and far from... (mind you b*tch dared to sign endorsments and posing in a car, while girls were dying in Slovakia). Ana clearly stated that she WANTED to participate in this tie and I have no point in thinking that she lied. People say she listens too much to Dan and lets him dictate what he wants with her to do... Let me tell you I don't see any problem with this. He is the one who supported Ana from zero to top5 and no wonder Ana trusts in him so much. I don't know him personally at all, but he seems the right man for Ana and the last thing I want for her is to drop him just to please uberpatriotic Serbians if he doesn't let her play FedCup again. If she's gonna be 100% after AO next year she will play FedCup, if she's not she won't (and that's what I want from her as well).

Ana.Seles is bad doubles player and when she played we dont have other good player (TOP150 for example). Even with her we dont have chances to compete in world groupe 1 and she have 1.000.000.000.000.000 (zilion) times much better job for our country reaching 8 GS titles playing with our old flag than if she play for as in some stupid Europe/Africa FED CUP zone couple uneccessary matches.

Hopman Cup is exo. Nothing more. Dont bother to use in argument. If Hopman Cup is only EXO and dont have anything with representing some country why is always all teams is for same country and named like "Russia", "USA", "Australia"...etc not (for example) like Ivanovic/Djokovic team. Also if HOPMAN CUP only EXO competiton, Europa/Africa zone of FED CUP (or PO for 2nd world groupe) is only SHIT competition (like azdaja already says).

3 days, 60+60.Teams for all countries gain nice money and that is reason why this EXO tournament is so prestiges and have great traditon - because have always strong competition.

From what she was tired then? Be serious.
Sorry for not following our tradition of celebrating defeats. And why we celebrating Jankovic success in Plovdiv this year? She dont play against any TOP100 player? I tell you why - because she played two matches per day in 3 rounds and final round (in doubles she played "for two"). That is reason why HER victory (not "our team") against Romania in last day is so great, because she played extremly tired (with six matches in last three days before final round). In 2006 we also dont have real "team" we have only Ana. She also played two matches per day in groupe, but in final round day she must play not against some (non-TOP150) weak team like Romania. Tired Ana must play against Israel with Peer which is phisicaly must stronger player than Ana in that time and Peer have much better support in that week from rest of Israel team (Smashnova and Obziler) than Ana. That is reason why she lose two marathon matches in that day (including 10-8 in 3rd set in doubles).

By your words. Not even her camp says that. And they already blowing that up.Maybe serious injury is not best word, but fact is that between her last match (Wimby SF) and her next match (i hope to see her in Toronto or L.A.) she will lose atleast one month and she must miss atleast trhee events which she plan to play this summer in her shedule (FED CUP, Stanford and San Diego).

Today's kids - 10,12,14 year olds. I said its all true she was saying, just ask why she doesnt help to change things for the better and she is in position to do that. You know how much players parents fight for more influence in federation. Who would dare to say no to her after she (and JJ) bring some real cash? This is way Nole&Srdjan doing. Tit for tat.She is 19y.o. girls who traveling whole year across world and played and training tennis - not some businessman, investor, civil engineer, politician with connections... If you realy belive that Srdjan Djokovic (and Damir Dokic before him) only want to help young serbian tennis players and spend many of they kids with theys "tennis academy" projects, thats your problem. If our state dont see interess to finaly build that tennis center in Belgrade or have big problem to find good location or money, why do you think that is must be job of some 19 y.o. girl? By the way president of our tennis asociation Zivoinovic is much reached man than Ana right now with much better connections in country and have all times of this world to create atleast litle better conditions for new young kids. It's his job.

Next Fed Cup is right after AU open. What are chances she will play? There will be always something more important. She will publish her shedule already in december like always. She is not cheater with always new excuses like you want to describe her. We know that she dont play in april couple months before. In january 2008 she will be tired after AO and have to defend Tokyo final. But because she is not so smart girl i fear that she will play that stupid Euro/Africa zone competition if she dont have some injury problems. So chances is about 70/30 that she will play.

You probably saw that piece on TV. Out of the blue? When was last time you saw THAT kind of report?
I enjoy every time i see her on TV, i wouldnt mind whole channel
dedicated just to Ana, but that one was too much. Clear "damage control".You obviously not watching RTS. In RTS tradition in last 50 years "reports" is always like this (black or white - nothing between). They ignore Ana and all her success by years (even Montreal, Tokyo and Berlin final dont give publicity), but when tennis success of our players this year is so big that whole world talking about that our national TV like always going after ignorence in complete extreme contrast after Roland Garros this year. Also "THAT kind of report" dont have nothing with Ana and her team - she never have connections with our corrupted journalism. I think her new big sponsor "Verano Motors" care for this new sounds about Ana in week where they agree with that new sponsorsheep.

I still dont understand WHAT DO YOU REALY WANT OF HER and what you realy have against her. If we compare her with all other serbian and worlds athletes she is very close to be "perfect model" for all others!

i would like to conclude this :weirdo: discussion not just for this year but forever by reminding the people that the most important competitions in tennis are the grand slams, not fed cup. this is tennis, not football or basketball. and in this regard, even if you are a serbian patriot you only can just be proud of ana. the following pictures should remind all serbian patriots of this fact and let's not forget that you got the chance to see some of this stuff because ana did not play this worthless competition.

Definitely. I understand that picking a new coach is a difficult decision.. but she needs one as soon as posible. She has a huge ammount of points to defend from March to June, and it always takes some time to make it work with a new coach. As soon as she starts working as soon she will see the results. But you know.. I'm disappointed at her team lately.. and I just don't expect much from them right now.

I think I did answer you Bruce. I don't think the issue here is Ana herself. We have NO evidence to say that she is refusing help, and that help is being offered to her. I'm much more worried by the fact that Ana's team seems to be in total denial, and to be refusing the posibility that Ana needs some help with her mental game. It's difficult to see from the inside, but her team had the obligation IMO to adivise her properly.. instead they are busy writing stupid nonsense odes to Ana's mental toughness, defying reality. You are implying for quite some time now that Ana has refused to accept that she needs to improve her mental approach to the game.. I don't agree with this... I don't think that's the case.

I'm not excusing Ana of any mistake.. She is stubborn and MIGHT not want to admit her shortcomings. But the real issue is if the people around her, who could advise her, make her see it, and help her search for a proper coach, are also refusing to see things and making all sorts of excuses for her poor performances.

That said, I doubt that she would cross a coach off her list if he implies that she could use counselling. I think they are trying to find someone who can have good communication with Ana, which is important. But if they take too long, than it will be just another mistake from her camp.. not the first in the last few months.

I think Ana might be difficult to coach because if you try to make her think more on court and use more of her many weapons, you can make her lose a bit or her fearless attacking spirit, which is essential to her game. Her coach needs to find a way to bring balance to her, so she can use her weapons and play with her brain, without losing that fearless attitude.

We could say that yes.. especially now that she has the tendency to run out of gas emotionally in third sets. She needs balance.

I ask of you not to use the word weapons when describing Ana’s skills. If someone is advising you to say certain things concerning Ana, I would advise you to think for yourself.

Justine Henin-Hardinen used the word weapons, or big guns, after her match with Jelena Jankovic at the 2006 US Open, which resulted in the White Eagles fan club showing up in large numbers to Jelena’s matchs ever since then.

I know Ana should win but these days you don`t know what to expect from Ana :tape: And Sugiyama wasn`t playing bad during AO,i thought she played good in her match against JJ
Also there is a pressure of playing in front of your people...

Hi Jelena! I'm also a bit... not nervous.. but aprehensive about tomorrow. Ana is a nervy player.. and Sugiyama is very steady. If Ana goes on UEs mode, she can get in trouble. But I'm still confident.

About the coach.. I think that she is only in talks with the potential coaches, and about to make her decision. She said that in a week she would have a coach traveling with her in a trial mode, which I think means that they will begin to practice and see if it works out.
