Of the many British players given wildcards for direct entry into the main draws of the various events at Wimbledon, one player stands out for special mention. Anne Keothavong whose rankings did not allow her direct entry into the main draws of any events received wildcards for the Ladiesí Singles, Ladiesí Doubles and Mixed Doubles. She lost in the first round of each event but took home a combined paycheck of 13,115 GBP! (approx US$26,377) Itís good to be British!

true

and also true and what i didnt like was the fact that the people watching the match (tim and lopez) was the fact that they were cheering for lopez's mistakes. and in the past (in other grand slams) the commentators say how bad that is!but its ok if tim plays i guess!

They can't be blamed for giving their wildcards to Keothavong, it's not like there's anyone else to give one too

No, his record is not worse than Anne's. She has received WC's from 2001-07. So, that's 7 WC's in a row and no wins.

Yeah, you're right, I stand corrected :o

Oh, well 1-7 looks better then.

Keothavong is a lost cause and I may boycott Wimbledon next year should she receive another wildcard!

They have to give them to someone and before the championships shes was the british #1.

And out of that 13 grand at least 2 grand will be lost in tax. And the other 11 will fund the rest of the year for Anne.

But she's been the Brit number one. Who else could they give it too if you don't give it to your nation's number one player?

Wimbledon only gave five wild cards to British players on both events. They gave Kutuzova a wild card and she barely won a game but no one bats an eyelid. Keothavong was given horrific draws - Jankovic in singles, the Williams in doubles and then up against Santoro in mixed. Even the best players wouldn't be winning these ones.

I was about to say, didn't Anne Keothavong play Sharapova in the first round during SHarapova's maiden grand slam victory?

I thought she was a junior player trying her way on the main tour (since 2005 anyway), how old is she?
