View Full Version : After watching Justine vs Patty, I SERIOUSLY think that Wimbledon's played on CLAY

I noticed that each time a ball is hit by either player, the ball bounces VERY HIGH like it was being played on a clay surface... took an eternity for a ball to bounce on the ground twice. And this is GRASS for Heaven's sake

This is starting to feel like Roland Garros for me... :tape:

The grass is definitely playuing slower this year.

I heard they uuuuare only using on type of grass this year,
wry(sp?). They has used three different grass. Not sure if
that is the difference or what.

Anyone else know?

Yes, Justine said after the 1st round the surface in Wimbledon is slower than Eastabourne and she needed to adjust.

That sucks it's like it's meant for Justine. They really need the low bouce fast surface again.

Eastbourne has usually always been faster than Wimbledon.

The bounce is usually true now with this different mixture of grass.

You can tell it's on grass though just by looking at Patty's shots.
Yes. They bounced high but the depth was lacking unlike it is on a clay or even hard court.

Patty worked so hard to get there. It's tough to put so much spin on a ball when you have to really make sure you get under a ball.

I noticed this as well with Dementieva's 2nd round match.

If Justine doesn't win it this year, she may never win it.

I don't think the surface is playing like clay

This year I think the Grass is faster than last year.

Actually, considering that the surface is getting slowed down year after year, Justine's chances will increase accordingly. :o

This was observed on MTF since the first day of play.

This is obviously being done to increase Nadal and Justine's chances. Ridiculous, IMO.

So why not just play all the slams on the same surfac if you're going to change it from it's original to suit players who have a tougher time winning it.

It amazes me that Momo can still serve and volley.

The low bounce actually suited Justine more because she has a great slice which used to get her free points against tall players who couldn't do much against it. It didn't bother her because she's short and it was into her hitting zone. It's very high bounces that she doesn't much like.

The slower speed of the courts obviously helps her a little.
