I am really interested in learning more about Eleanor because people in the juniors forum thought she was the best 10 year old in the world. If you guys could give me career results or anywhere I can find that and an upcoming tournament schedule I would very much appreciate it!!!!

Honestly, I don't think you should concern yourself with the results of a 10 year old right now. They don't need the extra attention and you can't tell anything about their future at their age.

Maybe now we can get this thread going. Eleanor has been playing primarily on the Tennis Europe U14 circuit this year with good results. Last week she won a grade 2 event in Pecs, Hungary. Hopefully she'll play a couple ITF junior events this year. :)

Is she 12? Any more info on her? I hope shes good :) Wonder if she will get a junior WC?

She's 13, born January 1996. I think she's another one who's going to be quite tall, having seen pictures of her from Les Petits As earlier this year.

She won yet another grade 2 U14 Tennis Europe last week in Bosnia. She's in really good form now! :D

Jun 16th, 2009, 02:35 PM
After her 2nd grade 2 win is added, she should gain an extra 70 points which would put her at #24 - and #3 of the 1996 girls - really impressive run...

Eleanor should be playing in the European Summer Cup starting tomorrow. The GBR team should be Katy Dunne at #1, Eleanor at #2, and Beth Askew and Alice Keddie on reserve. That's actually a pretty good team so they should be able to qualify for the final rounds.

*hingis_forever*

This week she is playing the Windmill Cup in Leeuwarden. Laura Robson won it in 2007. It is a grade 1 U14 Tennis Europe event. She won her first round match in straight sets against her Indian opponent and will play a South African in the second round.

Eleanor's into the quarters after defeating Ayaka Okuno of Japan (who I believe Eleanor lost to at the Eddie Herr International in 07). Her next opponent is from Ukraine and then potentially Indy de Vroome, U12 Orange Bowl winner from last year. Keep it up Eleanor!

Just for completeness, Eleanor lost in the quarters 7-5 in the third! Tough loss! However, this week she is in the quarterfinal of a grade 2 event in France. She faces the tough Japanese 14 year old, Miho Kowase, next. Hopefully she brings her A game and pulls off the upset!

Eleanor is our national champion in 14s division, beating Katy Dunne 64 26 63 in the final. Very impressive as our Katy is a top class 95 born player.

Eleanor is back playing again after taking a few months out since nationals. She's playing Les Petits As, one of the biggest U14 tournaments in the world and was faced with a pretty difficult opponent, Donna Vekic, in the first round. Eleanor won 64 64 and could play Indy De Vroome in the third round. Go Eleanor! :D

Eleanor is leading the GBR 14s in the Tennis Europe Winter Cup. They finished second in their group to Ukraine and today defeated Croatia in the first round of the finals. Eleanor beat Croatia's #1 Iva Primorac 62 63. Next they face #2 seeds Germany. Go Eleanor and GBR! :D

I was just wondering, has anyone seen her play? I know she's a tall girl for her age so I'm guessing she's pretty powerful, but I know she trained alot in Spain, so I was just wondering what type of game she plays.

The qualifying draw is out and Eleanor drew Romanian Patricia Chirea. Honestly I've never heard of her but I looked at her results and Eleanor should be in with a good shot. If she wins that she plays wither Tiffany William or Elisha Gabb for a spot in the main draw. Go Eleanor!

Eleanor won 1 & 4:)

Have to confess I didn't share *hingis_forever*'s confidence, Chirea has one or two good wins including one on clay over Ejdesgaard. This is a very good result on debut.

Elisha Gabb, who easily disposed of Tiffany William, stands between Eleanor and the main draw.

The match might be over (I was expecting the result when I got notification of your post). Actually, first (men's main draw) match on Eleanor's court went to three and the BBC don't have the result of the second yet, so maybe it is still in progress.

I would have made Eleanor favourite at this venue on this surface.

Eleanor :yeah: I think this is the same situation as her match with Gabb. Seaborne is a good player but with clay court resume. I think this is a good draw for Eleanor. Just think, if she wins she plays either Jocelyn Rae or Tara Moore!

Calm down.:)

Well, it's over, as the next match has been on court for nearly an hour: http://twitter.com/tennisscotland/status/13425988839 but the BBC don't have the score yet, so maybe it went to three, which would be a shock in itself.

Or maybe it didn't. Lisa Whybourn just tweeted that there have been "a lot" of rain delays

Perhaps clay is her best surface.

Is she going to play on grass, I wonder? She's entered Roehampton and Wimbledon Girls', though obviously she'd need a wild card, really. Wimbledon proper, via the play-off, did you say? My reading of the AER is that it's no longer allowed for fourteen year olds to play in a GS, but one thing I've learned from following Laura Robson's career is that my reading of the AER is usually wrong.

Oh yes clay might well be her best surface, just nice to see a brit doing so well on clay at any level, lol.

I expect she'll get a WC for wimby juniors, wonder if it'll be qualies or MD tho, hopefully give her a crack at MD.

Can she accept a wild card if she wins it? Does a Wimbledon wild card fall under class (i) or (ii) below, I mean?

(b) Wild Cards
These players are permitted to receive a maximum of
three (3) Wild Cards as follows:
(i) One (1) Wild Card for use into the Main Draw or
Qualifying Draw of either a WTA Tour International
Tournament or ITF Women’s Circuit event; and
(ii) Two (2) Wild Cards exclusively for use into the Main

Eleanor is playing the $25K in Sutton this week and has been handed a very tough draw against Kristina Mladenovic. If she serves well, though, it could be competitive.

Eleanor lost 61 60 to Mladenovic. Clearly it's too early to expect her to be challenging the likes of Mladenovic. I would've thought she'd have made it a bit closer but oh well.

'Bok began coaching Dean this January. One of his conditions is that he spends no more than 25 weeks a year away from home as he has a young daughter. Bok talks about Dean's qualities and what can be improved. Previously she hit the ball without much thought - she now thinks through points with more creativity in evidence.

Dean is a pupil who Bok can work well with. She is studious, crafty and good to coach. At present they are working on improved footwork to give her more options in matches.

His aim, unlike many other coaches is not for instant results, but to allow the quality and character of her play to mature.

The most important factor in the chemistry between Bok and Dean is Dean's willingness to learn. She is not such a gifted player in terms of soft hands, but is blessed with a good physique and the capability to dominate matches. Moreover Dean has a powerful serve which can put opponents immediately under pressure.

The training has begun to bear fruit in recent weeks. Bok saw (in Alkmaar/Breda) more creativity and ingenuity than before. Cross-court balls are used more, with less unforced errors

Eleanor repeats the trick, beating Rohanova in straight sets this time, in the 3rd/4th play-off of the Euro Summer Cup. Evidently recovered from the bad back that kept her out of yesterday's semi. Again, though, the Czechs won the other two matches.

Disturbing we don't have any GB junior girls in the USO main drw. I hear of these prospects, but don't see them.

Our actual prospects on the girls side in this cohort is actually pretty thin, imo. Dean is the only one who can go onto become a top 100 player, again, imo.

Eleanor is playing two consecutive grade 2's over the next couple of weeks, followed by a G1 the week after. There was little point in going to the US Open as she would have needed to qualify. If she does well in these junior tournies in Europe over the next few weeks, she won't need to qualify for Oz open (if she decides to go).

Been a somewhat lean time for Eleanor since Maza's post.

She's been playing the G1 Santa Croce this week. Retired a set ahead in her only singles match, missing a match-up with Barty because of it. However, she carried on in doubles with Siniakova and beat Barty in the final.

Where did you read she is training in germany now? Didn't find anything in the net about her being in germany!?
I wonder why Dean will not play the juniors in Paris next week but she is quite regular playing doubs with Antonia Lottner from germany. That's why I came here.;)

Anyway, she's on the entry list for the G1 in Offenbach (GER) in 2 weeks just as Antonia. So I assume they will play doubs together as well.

Until recently she listed her coach as Robert Orlik on her ITF profile...

On the GS question, I have a fanciful theory, not to be taken seriously. Bok of course coached 14 year old Robson to the Wimbledon Girls' title and perhaps later decided that had been disastrous for her career, so with his next charge avoided the GSs like the plague, a lesson his charge has taken to heart.

I see, Robert Orlik is the coach of Annika Beck, too, associated the club RTHC Leverkusen (near Cologne) and looks like Dean joined this tennis club. I often listened to British ES journalists praising the german tennis league system as very helpful for progression of young players to transit from the youth to the adult level.

Lottners club (Moers) is not far away. Let's hope them to become successful players a day! ;)

Katy Dunne's Everyball blog entry (http://everyball.net/katy-dunne-blogs-from-new-haven) says Eleanor has crocked herself, which is why she's not playing in the Maureen Connolly Challenge. Doesn't say if she's out of Repentigny and the USO too.

Anyone know what she's up to?

As you know, but for the record, she played 4 games of the Orange Bowl in early December before retiring. It seems reasonable to assume she's still injured. Google alerts hasn't picked up anything since May, which probably says more about Google than Eleanor, but it's fair to say there haven't been many news stories about her lately, which to be honest isn't very surprising.

There was a sighting by Jess Ren in late August: http://twitter.com/jessren94/status/241209490156974080:silly:

p.s. Jess has protected her tweets now, so the link won't work for most of us.
