Unfortunately there is no video for tonight because it is being shown live on ESPNU, which I don't have. I think that video will resume tomorrow :bounce:

Megan A in a fight here. 4-4 30-0 up in the third

Megan can definitely play, but mentally it seems she has a lot of troubles. She was up 30-0, did three stupid mistakes, then saved the bp and managed to hold for 5-4. Long puts a lot of balls back in, annoyingly slices every backhand. Alexander is just pushing her serve in though.

¤CharlDa¤
May 23rd, 2007, 05:04 PM
Well this match turned into a classic!

5-4* Megan: Megan plays well (a great dtl backhand running passing shot), gets two mps. She misses an easy one on the first, long hits a forehand winner on the second. At deuce, Long hit what I thought was a double fault, Megan thought the same, didn't play it, and it ended up giving Ad for Long. Megan was pissed and missed the next point.

5-5. Megan was still pissed and almost tanked the game ;)

5-6*: Megan starts well. Gets a bp and misses an easy return. Long gets a mp, misses an easy approach. Megan ends up breaking by some solid ground play.

Tie break: FUNNY AS HELL. At 1-1, Megan hits an overhead in the fence. At 2-2, Long just tries hitting a high volley and doesn't touch the ball. She looked so confused. Megan ended up winning the next 3 points and the tb 7-3. The best player won. Megan needs a serve though.

Zemenova really choked the second. But managed to close it 6-1 7-6(4) after winning 6-1 5-2 and having mps.

What a weird game Yelsey has. She used a lot that two-handed slice. And weird technique on the forehand.

I'm quite impressed with Nelson right now. Seems like she hits without any effort. She changes the directiong really well.

Monika Dancevic, Georgia's #2, just won the second set against college #1 Audra Cohen of Miami. The score is now 0-6 6-4 Keep it up Monika!

BTW, Audra missed a REALLY easy forehand on set point

The top half of the draw is Soooooooooo much stronger than the bottom, with Cohen, uvarova, gloria, babos and moulton levy there.

Nelson pretty much has a pass into the finals. The only ones that might trouble her are zemenova, miller and nguyen, logar.

nflatte - you are right about T-Lo! I don't think I've ever seen a player as intense as T-Lo. She wants to win every single point. I remember one match, she was killing her opponent, and the score was something like, 6-1, 5-1 and she would still be yelling at herself for unforced errors. Infact, she probably gets pissed if she loses the coin toss!

Jessica was injured back a while ago so my guess is that it's bothering her again this time. Yeah, T-Lo is so intense! She like cusses at herself and speaks in third-person while doing that  I wouldn't be surprised she'd get mad if she lost the coin toss

The name Lindsey Nelson reminds me of the former NY Mets television announcer. He was also famous for announcing college football including the classic match between Notre Dame + Texas in 1970's Cotton Bowl. His daughter attended the University of Tennessee where she was a cheerleader.

As for the matches, I enjoyed the intensity and skilled work of players such as Audra Cohen and Theresa Logar. I just wish the online broadcast included audio!!

ATHENS, GA. - After becoming just the second USC women's tennis player to reach the NCAA Singles final last season, junior Lindsey Nelson (http://usctrojans.cstv.com/sports/w-tennis/mtt/nelson_lindsey00.html) has replicated that run, barreling her way into the 2007 NCAA Singles Championship match with her 7-6 (2), 6-2 win over LSU's Megan Falcon in Sunday's semifinals. 2006 finalist Nelson now has the chance to go one step further, coming up against a fairly familiar opponent in the championship match on Monday at 8 p.m. ET. There, Nelson faces top-seeded Audra Cohen of Miami - a player Nelson has squared off against three times in the past two postseasons.
Now holding a 31-7 overall singles record behind a string of straight-set victories in NCAA singles competition, Nelson now prepares to upset Cohen and become the second USC player to be an NCAA Singles champion. Beth Herr was the only other Trojan to complete the task, winning the title in 1983.
To get to the top of the NCAA singles world, Nelson has to overcome top-ranked Cohen. It's a feat she has accomplished before. In the 2006 NCAA Team Championships, the pair battled to a suspended No. 1 singles match when the Hurricanes edged out the Women of Troy 4-1 in the NCAA Semifinals. Cohen had the slight edge in that suspended match 7-5, 4-6, 3-2, but when the pair faced again during the 2006 Singles Championships, Nelson dispatched Cohen in the Round of 16 with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 decision on the way to Nelson's appearance in the title match. Nelson and Cohen most recently clashed once again in the NCAA Team Round of 16, where Cohen managed a 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 win over Nelson. The history of heated battles between the two hint at another all-out showdown when Nelson and Cohen clash in Monday's NCAA final at 8 p.m. ET at Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. To get there, Nelson had to get past second-seeded Megan Falcon of LSU in the semifinals. After a tight first set pushed into a tiebreaker, Nelson buckled down and pounded out the win with a 7-2 tiebreaker to bring up the second set. There, Nelson worked ahead and stayed there on the way to a 7-6 (2), 6-2 win that launched the USC junior into contention for the championship.

Great post - it provides the student profile for Lindsey Nelson but does not indicate if she is related to the late Lindsey Nelson who was a famous TV sports announcer.

That's Nelson in the middle along with Ralph Kiner [at the left] and Bob Murphy [at the right] (for those of you from San Diego, he was Jack Murphy's brother):

Disappointing end for me, but Cohen picked up her play when she needed to tonight. Nelson, I think, has more potential, but she needs to work on consistency and her mental toughness. Nice for Cohen to win, she had a fantastic year. I really loved the hug at the net, very classy.

It's also great to see forum members show such great interest in the match. Perhaps this could be the start of something big for NCAA women's tennis. And if so, let's hope it trickles down to high school girls action as well.

Lindsey does better against people who give her a true ball to hit. But still, this is the worst she's played against Cohen. she relaly needs to stop choking when serving for sets and matches. oh well, there's always a next time.

A LOT of posters here do follow the results of high school age players -- when they play on the junior and/or challenger circuits. But as for following high school matches, I really doubt there'd be much interest.
