A bye, and she's in a good section. Anna has to play well, but she can go far with this draw. selyoink May 12th, 2007, 02:20 PM Can't complain about that draw. Well except for the fact that I like Severine better than Anna but realistically there is very little chance of Severine beating her and I know that. Sharapower8 May 12th, 2007, 03:32 PM Good luck Anna ! :bounce: hu2891601 May 12th, 2007, 05:01 PM finally a more reasonable draw for Anna!! GOOD LUCK! and get the top 8 seed for RG! :bounce: cosmoose May 12th, 2007, 06:10 PM http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/images/smilies/previous.gif Christmas comes little early for Anna! Take charge Anna!!! http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Happy/happy-051.gif smokovec May 12th, 2007, 06:48 PM Nice draw for Anna, I hope she can take an advantage and so forget the 2006 Tournament, when Anna lost in 1. Round with an injury. Sund7101 May 13th, 2007, 01:02 AM Great draw, take advantage of it! So excited for Anna! Emina. May 13th, 2007, 06:30 PM Good luck Anna i'll be cheering for you in Rome :) Wintermute May 13th, 2007, 10:20 PM A reasonable draw for Anna. She only needs to win a round to grab some more points. She'll be back at #10 on Monday with Dinara not far ahead. But Serena's playing here and could easily overtake Anna if she creams all the opposition. goldenlox May 14th, 2007, 01:36 AM Anna isn't far from being #6. Hingis has points coming off. Nicole, Ana and Dinara are right in front of Anna. A good run here would be huge. She has to play steady and smart. Get that first win. I like the 3rd round matchups. If she plays Nicole, that's an important match. But get the first one, for now. hu2891601 May 14th, 2007, 01:41 AM Does anyone know how many points Hingis will lose? cause winner for Tier I this year is 430 points, and last year, it was 300 points.. so how many points she's defending? goldenlox May 14th, 2007, 01:46 AM Hingis has 300 points coming off. The winner here gets 430, the finalist 300. With 2 majors coming after this, Anna can be as high as #6. But she'll have to go deep in each big event. hu2891601 May 14th, 2007, 02:09 AM but isn't this kinda.. unfair? that'd mean if Hingis plays Rome this year, she'll only need to get to the final to defend her winner points?? haha, i'll be thrilled if Anna really reaches #6.. :yeah: cosmoose May 14th, 2007, 04:13 AM New rankings came out (5/14/07) 1) 4119 Henin 2) 3388 Sharapova 3) 2867 Kuznetsova 4) 2701 Mauresmo 5) 2372 Jankovic 6) 2279 Hingis 7) 1957 Vaidisova 8) 1906 Ivanovic 9) 1898 Safina 10) 1822 Chakvetadze 11) 1770 Williams, S 12) 1713 Petrova 13) 1600 Dementieva 14) 1589 Hantuchova 15) 1448 Peer 16) 1390 Golovin 17) 1372 Schnyder 18) 1281 Li 19) 1253 Zvonareva 20) 1007 Srebotnik Ranking has changed a lot recently. Hingis not defending + Kind Rome draw = Anna could be at 7 or even 6! :hearts: :bounce: :worship: :lick: Lot of old standbys like Petrova, Dementieva, and Schnyder have fallen drammatically. No more Clijsters. With a Tier 1 victory, Ivanovic jumped from 16 to 8. cosmoose May 14th, 2007, 04:23 AM Tennis channel is airing all quarterfinal matches for Rome. So potential Anna vs. Nicole QF on TV! :) Possible Anna vs. Kuzzie/Safina SF! All the dangerous players (Mauresmo, Jankovic, S Williams) are on the other side of the bracket! ANNA COULD BE IN THE FINALS!!! I need to calm down. hu2891601 May 14th, 2007, 06:01 AM ANNA COULD BE IN THE FINALS!!! I need to calm down.   :bounce: Spiritof42 May 14th, 2007, 07:19 AM Let's not get ahead of ourselves (well, at least not too much) :) Wintermute May 14th, 2007, 04:50 PM but isn't this kinda.. unfair? that'd mean if Hingis plays Rome this year, she'll only need to get to the final to defend her winner points?? Well all the ranking points got re-adjusted for this year so a player doesn't necessarily need to achieve the same result to defend their points from last year. But those points will be worth less relative to the new points this year if you see what I mean. I'm sure all the players care about is that they get as far as possibly and hopefully win the whole thing. I guess Anna's not playing until Wednesday? hu2891601 May 14th, 2007, 05:00 PM Well all the ranking points got re-adjusted for this year so a player doesn't necessarily need to achieve the same result to defend their points from last year. I'm sure all the players care about is that they get as far as possibly and hopefully win the whole thing. I guess Anna's not playing until Wednesday? ahh, thanx, but the ranking system's still very confusing to me :o but doesn't matter, if Anna plays well in Rome and RG, she'll move up her ranking. :) and yea, Anna won't play until Wednesday. :yeah: goldenlox May 15th, 2007, 04:34 PM Nicole withdrew, and now Anna is the high seed to make the semis from her quarter. goldenlox May 15th, 2007, 06:08 PM Anna plays Zi Yan in round 2 hu2891601 May 15th, 2007, 06:25 PM Anna should be able to win this match! but Zi Yan is a tough opponent, she gets a lot of balls back, and mentally tough also. goldenlox May 15th, 2007, 06:46 PM Anna has a great chance to make at least the semis here. If she doesn't, it will be Anna's worst tournament of 2007. But first, beat Yan. Wintermute May 15th, 2007, 07:14 PM Zi Yan could provide a test for Anna. She's come all the way through qualies to get to this point. That's included a couple of really hard fought matches. Anna shouldn't underestimate her. Hitting deep and putting away anything short, the Russian was almost faultless against a gutsy Yan, who made the second round after upsetting Severine Bremond. If she can maintain the form, Anna should be favourite to justify her ranking - or possibly more - by making the quarters finals, where she will play either Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova or Sybilie Bammer, both of whom are also on form. Chakvetadze has had a solid year on the circuit so far, reaching the quarter finals of the Australian Open and the Paris indoor event. hu2891601 May 16th, 2007, 06:08 PM Hantuchova next!! :bounce: :yeah: BUBI May 16th, 2007, 06:08 PM So Hantuchova will be Chakvenator's next victim :bounce: selyoink May 16th, 2007, 06:57 PM Nice and easy for Anna. goldenlox May 16th, 2007, 07:18 PM This will be a big one, because AMG is after that. Somehow the only matches I get to see on TV are the ones Anna ends up losing :( Spiritof42 May 17th, 2007, 10:01 AM This is a big one. Daniela had an easier win than expected against Bammer. Who will Wintermute be rooting for? Anna or Dani? Good luck Anna! Only 1 more hour to wait! :bounce: Sharapower8 May 17th, 2007, 12:24 PM she's losing 2/6 - 3/5  GeorgianFan May 17th, 2007, 12:31 PM Chacky - Dani 2-6 3-6 sooo easy :sobbing: :sobbing: :sobbing: penkku May 17th, 2007, 12:38 PM Anna where were you today, seems that the surface is not made for your style, must have a lot of practice on clay in the future ! goldenlox May 17th, 2007, 12:49 PM Anna went down early these last 2 weeks. Maybe she should rest her shoulder until the FO. Pink Princess May 17th, 2007, 12:53 PM Anna :( :tears: :( I saw great part of the match in Eurosport and it is obvious that Anna hates this surface, to the being slow and she plays something slow since the ball does not go rapidly, nonetheless I believe that she has to make many winners and to risk. Now to resting and to be preparing for the great appointment. :bigclap: :bigclap: :bigclap: smokovec May 17th, 2007, 01:03 PM Bad lose for Anna, I see the 2nd set from 0-2 down and in the start she is very unsatisfied, then she start play better (with a greath stop-ball on Daniela service for example), but too many errors, not the Anna we know. selyoink May 17th, 2007, 02:23 PM I think this result just confirms that she sucks on clay. Hantuchova is not much herself on clay and yet won easily. Anna will need to improve a lot on clay in the next couple of years if she is to be a threat at RG. Foot's Fingers May 17th, 2007, 02:51 PM Anna :tape: Pitty she lost open draw Better to reduce our expectations from Anna on clay (the same as last year btw) And if she reach 4rnd on RG would be very good result Wintermute May 17th, 2007, 04:30 PM Anna  Who will Wintermute be rooting for? Anna or Dani? I try to stay neutral on these occasions. ;) I know it's the worst surface of both players but I thought maybe Anna would be able to make more of a good draw on clay than Daniela. However these last two results for Daniela have been very surprising; it seems she likes Rome. I didn't see any of the match but just looking at the stats I can see Anna's first serve percentage was way lower than against Zi Yan and she was not getting any joy returning Dani's first serves either. The problem with Anna's loss is that it will affect her ranking. She's just been overtaken by Serena. She can still be overtaken this week by Safina and even Hantuchova if she reaches the final. hu2891601 May 17th, 2007, 06:11 PM Anna just hates Clay..  goldenlox May 17th, 2007, 06:17 PM I think this result just confirms that she sucks on clay. Hantuchova is not much herself on clay and yet won easily. Anna will need to improve a lot on clay in the next couple of years if she is to be a threat at RG.Anna has already beaten Hantuchova on red clay. And Jankovic and Ivanovic. But when Anna plays like this, she won't beat anyone, anywhere. cosmoose May 17th, 2007, 07:32 PM Well, we know Anna didn't suddenly lose all her talent...so it must mean that her game doesn't suit that bastard red clay. :fiery: DAMN YOU RED CLAY!!!:fiery: Seriously, Roger doesn't care for red clay and Anna is "just" as good as Roger. So great players of our time have spoken... "Red clay is for losers!" http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Winks/wink-3.gif French Open means nothing to me. I'm going to ignore it and wait for the grass court season. Its true what they say...grass is always greener on the other side of the English channel. hu2891601 May 17th, 2007, 08:07 PM   great sense of humor! :yeah: Spiritof42 May 17th, 2007, 08:31 PM :bigcry: I was expecting a tough match, but certainly not a crushing defeat. :( :banghead: Not very confident about Anna's chances of making an impact at the FO after this debacle.   I haven't seen the match, only the stats. She didn't face THAT many BP, but I can't believe she managed to win only 1 single point off Daniela's serve in the 1st set. :o :help: Wintermute May 17th, 2007, 09:04 PM For anyone like me who didn't get to watch live there's a bunch of videos posted in the Cocktail Party video thread (http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=145909&page=57). Lots of moonballing! BUBI May 18th, 2007, 08:29 AM Anna wasn't moving well. And she always seems to be in trouble in hard wind. She needs to work on it. :( smokovec May 18th, 2007, 11:11 AM It's also possible a little phisical fall for Anna, she is so good for Months. For me it's better that Anna come in top form for the short Grass Season, she can be dangerous on this surface and with more experience go deep in any Tournament. Spiritof42 May 19th, 2007, 01:09 AM For anyone like me who didn't get to watch live there's a bunch of videos posted in the Cocktail Party video thread (http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=145909&page=57). Lots of moonballing! Dowloading this match right now (well, the 2nd set at any rate), even though I'll probably be crying in my beer after watching it. Ah well. Not too many Anna matches posted on the 'net, and even less shown on TV around here, so I can't be too picky. | |
