A reasonable draw for Anna. She only needs to win a round to grab some more points. She'll be back at #10 on Monday with Dinara not far ahead. But Serena's playing here and could easily overtake Anna if she creams all the opposition.

Anna isn't far from being #6. Hingis has points coming off. Nicole, Ana and Dinara are right in front of Anna.
A good run here would be huge. She has to play steady and smart. Get that first win. I like the 3rd round matchups. If she plays Nicole, that's an important match.
But get the first one, for now.

Does anyone know how many points Hingis will lose? cause winner for Tier I this year is 430 points, and last year, it was 300 points.. so how many points she's defending?

Hingis has 300 points coming off. The winner here gets 430, the finalist 300. With 2 majors coming after this, Anna can be as high as #6. But she'll have to go deep in each big event.

Nicole withdrew, and now Anna is the high seed to make the semis from her quarter.

Anna plays Zi Yan in round 2

Anna should be able to win this match! but Zi Yan is a tough opponent, she gets a lot of balls back, and mentally tough also.

Anna has a great chance to make at least the semis here. If she doesn't, it will be Anna's worst tournament of 2007.
But first, beat Yan.

Zi Yan could provide a test for Anna. She's come all the way through qualies to get to this point. That's included a couple of really hard fought matches. Anna shouldn't underestimate her.

Anna where were you today, seems that the surface is not made for your style, must have a lot of practice on clay in the future !

I saw great part of the match in Eurosport and it is obvious that Anna hates this surface, to the being slow and she plays something slow since the ball does not go rapidly, nonetheless I believe that she has to make many winners and to risk.

I think this result just confirms that she sucks on clay. Hantuchova is not much herself on clay and yet won easily.

Anna will need to improve a lot on clay in the next couple of years if she is to be a threat at RG.

I try to stay neutral on these occasions. ;) I know it's the worst surface of both players but I thought maybe Anna would be able to make more of a good draw on clay than Daniela. However these last two results for Daniela have been very surprising; it seems she likes Rome.

I didn't see any of the match but just looking at the stats I can see Anna's first serve percentage was way lower than against Zi Yan and she was not getting any joy returning Dani's first serves either.

The problem with Anna's loss is that it will affect her ranking. She's just been overtaken by Serena. She can still be overtaken this week by Safina and even Hantuchova if she reaches the final.

Anna just hates Clay.. :sad: :sad:

Anna wasn't moving well. And she always seems to be in trouble in hard wind. She needs to work on it. :(

It's also possible a little phisical fall for Anna, she is so good for Months.

For me it's better that Anna come in top form for the short Grass Season, she can be dangerous on this surface and with more experience go deep in any Tournament.
