I'm guessing she'll be 11, unless there are WDs from above. What effect could playing and doing well in Rome have?

Rankings updated today after Berlin results:

7 Martina Hingis 2279
8 Nicole Vaidisova 1957
9 Dinara Safina 1848
10 Anna Tchakvetadze 1822
11 Serena Williams 1770
12 Nadia Petrova 1663
13 Elena Dementieva 1600
14 Daniela Hantuchova 1589
15 Ana Ivanovic 1536

Kim not playing RG this year so everyone up a ranking spot.

Martina, Dinara, Nadia/Elena (one will be gone after tomorrow), and Ana are still alive in Berlin.

Next week at Rome Martina is defending champion so has 300 pts that will come off. Dinara was runner up last year (210). Elena reached QF in Rome last year.

Petrova and Ivanovic didn't play Rome last year, Nicole lost in 2nd round, and Anna and Daniela lost in first match.

This year the winner of Rome gets 430 pts, runner up gets 300. It looks like Serena will probably be in the 9-12 seeding group, but I guess it is possible for her to sneak in as a top 8 seed...

Im pretty sure Serena will get a top 8 seed for RG.

A QF at Rome would roughly take her into the top ten, 9th seed.

A SF would take her into 9/8 position 7/8th seed

A Final would be top 8 therefore number 7 seed

A win in Rome would take her to number 8 also, possibly number 7 depending on how Hingis does at defending. So a maximum number 6 seeding. But with any luck a top 8 one anyway

I just want her to be healthy and able to play this year. It has been so long since she last played in Paris... back in 2004!

The main draw comes out 2 weeks from this Friday (May 25th)! :bounce:

I think she can count on Top 8 w/ a solid Rome showing :yeah:

Martina has withdrawn from RG so Serena is up a spot. Ana and Nicole (both in front of Serena in ranking right now) aren't playing Rome this week.

I think top 5 is a definite possibility :yeah:

 although 5-8 (GUARANTEED) is all the same

well already with her quaterfinal performance serena has gained 110 points which gives her a total of 1880 points which is enough to put her at number 9 and with hingis' withdrawl shes at 8 already. if she gets to the semis it will get her to 1965 points which gets her 2 number 8 which is 7th seed finals shes looking at 2120 giving her 6 ranking 6 seed (hingis will lose points because of not defending) and with a win in rome she will still be 6th with 6th seed. All depending on how the other players compete but shes at least at 8.

Well I think Serena will only be number 10 now, maybe number 9.

No top 8 seeding :(

Still as long she plays well I don't care, I would quite like for her to take out Justine early, so she loses points and it makes it easier for Serena to get back to number one :D

According to the RG seed thread in GM Serena will be a top 8 seed. :)

Now we wait to see what her draw is like on Friday!!!

Vaidisova looks in doubt for RG so if she does withdraw she will be #7 seed possibly

I hope that she stays the HELL away from Venus and is as close to Momo/Sharapova as possible

I want Venus to draw Sharapova for two wins in as many weeks

I wouldn't mind Serena drawing any of the top four seeds in the quarters to be honest.

Even though Id like a classic final, Im still warming to the idea of Serena out Justine earlier on :D

Her 4th round match could be interesting with the opponents being (9-12) Chakvetadze, Safina, Petrova, Hantuchova. Or Dementieva if Vaidisova withdraws.

I did :(

I know, I know. Stupid rules. I just keep my WTAWorld layout/style the same as the old one so I can see everyones avatars and I like the old way better anyway.

I'm really potimistic about her chances of victory (over optimistic? )
In spite of her loss at Roma against Patty, I saw some very interesting stuffs in her game. She's got a nice variety, she slides well, she's humble on the court. It was just her first redclay court tourney in years so it's pretty convincing considering the situation.
With the motivation RG brings to her, she can win fair and square. I'm not even afraid of Henin to be honest.

None of the potential 3R opponents concern me (unless it happens to be Venus but I don't think Serena would lose). The only potential 4R opponents that would be tough I think are Safina and Petrova. So I'm hoping Serena at least can make the QF here.

I like her odds against those two because they are error-prone, thus keeping Serena in the match if she were ever in jeopardy of losing.
Venus, Justine, and Jelena Jankovic-type players are the ones I am concerned the most with.
